Time Out for O/T – Vol. 2

Thanks Escribacat. You are right, the entire city is in ruins and it IS a massive disaster. For goodness sakes, I read that an Oxfam worker said markets had been looted!

» Posted By Pashma On January 17, 2010 @ 9:52 am

Good day everyone!

There is a question really eating away at me. So yes, of course I came here where the good people of the Planet are!

I wanted to know along with the rescue efforts and immediate medical attention given in Haiti, why an area of the airport could not be used to provide food/water/shelter if needed? I see the airplanes, rescue workers and media there. It’s a safe place for them. People are in shock, tired, hungry, confused and dehydrated waiting for help. From what I’ve read and heard some of the rescue efforts are uncoordinated and people are becoming agitated and angry.

I’m just thinking if I were there and strong enough to get to the airport for help, I would try to get there and hopefully someone there would help organize a way to go back and help others.

I’ve also heard that there is violence there. I am surprised in a way that people would think this would not happen. Haiti has criminals too and they don’t just magically become good citizens after a disaster, even though they are making it difficult for others. It should be recognized.

Your thoughts please.

This is great news.

I agree, turnout is key, people need to be motivated to go vote and reminded that we’re still in a fight.

I found this comment mispellings and all:

Let Obama due for Coakley what he did for the gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia

http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/21640/new-york-republicans-heading-to-help-scott-brown/

» Posted By Pashma On January 15, 2010 @ 3:14 pm

Nellie, I really wish I could tell you more. The TV Ads have been constant, more with Martha pointing out some very interesting things on Brown’s voting record.

The media here always makes it clear that the Kennedy candidate is not related. Right now, I hear its pretty close.

Just got a Robo Call from some organization in Washington doing an independent survey. However they were “claiming” that Martha would be using tax dollars to fund abortions, healthcare was going to costs trillions, etc. etc. I hung up, but not after letting them know I’m voting for Martha.

It does seem like a close race, but I will find out what I can.

» Posted By Pashma On January 15, 2010 @ 3:02 pm

Hi Javaz! I live in MA and we will be voting for Martha in this house. She’s not arrogant, she’s tough, smart, concise. Those are fighting words I guess.

I was thinking of staying home, until I closely listen to the other candidate. Can’t speak for the rest of the Dems here, but I’ll be out and voting.

Hate In America

I log in to my yahoo account and submit posts (articles) from PPOV as often as I can. Just to get more exposure and views for PPOV. The more people Buzz or Digg the article it moves up. Hope you don’t mind. Just want to share all the good stuff here.

What would you like to hear in the State of the Union?

Thanks ArtMan!

I have never been as interested in politics as I have been since his nomination. I can’t imagine what it is like to walk daily in his shoes and not know who to trust and what advice is real or meant to bring about failure. I hope he listens to that sincere and honest heart.

Because he is truly an organizer, I believe that it is what is in his way and disappoints him. In order to be a leader he must do what HE knows is the right thing to do and be at peace with NOT pleasing the masses. It’ll be okay in the end.

Love it!

» Posted By Pashma On January 27, 2010 @ 8:13 am

What I would like to hear is:

That this is and always will be a great nation. And even though we are in the midst of one of the most challenging economic crisis of our times, this country and its people have come together to help others in crisis (Haiti) and I thank you.

I want him to spin the media massacre that is going on. I would like to hear him say that we live in times that information consists of commentary and opinions and that he has great confidence in the American people to make their own informed decisions.

With the nation and the world watching this is his opportunity to deliver a powerful and clear message as to how he will lead this country forward. It will be spun negatively in a trillion different ways, but he has to leave a smidgen of doubt in the minds of the public that everything they see, read and hear may not be the truth.

Because we are an impatient society, we need to know what will happen immediately, today to turn things around. And for goodness sakes Mr. President please talk to all of us, the educated the not so well educated, unite us in the fact that although we have differences we are ALL Americans.

I want the best for this country and the President.

The New Spokesperson for the Middle Class? Pu-LEEZE!

Because I’ve been all around the web today, myself and I’m feelin’ a bit vinegary to say the least. What I find sad is that some people still think Huffington Post is or should play fair. There isn’t any fairness in money and more money!

Frankly I’d like to see something other than the President of the United States can’t say or do anything to please the people of America article. You know where I can find one like that?

Any suggestions?

Round One of the New President Obama: The Populist

There needs to be a telethon for Americans. There needs to be one to help pay for HCR. I watched the millions being donated to Haiti and from many who don’t have much to give.

I could not help but think about this country and what we need here right now.

This country is truly turning into the have’s and have nots.

I am suffering from political burnout right now.

Hang in there, we’re here and we hear you!

She Said What?!?

Boomer, you said you liked this co-worker. Can you talk to her and let her know how you feel about her comment? Maybe coming from someone she likes and respects will make her think about what she said.

Let’s ALL THANK Huffington Post and Its Proprietor

Thanks Nellie, I’m going to email just like during the campaign and hope that it helps. Huffington is NOT what it was for many of during the campaign and as someone posted today “why are all you liberal/leftie trolls doing on our site”.

‘Nuff said!

» Posted By Pashma On January 20, 2010 @ 11:41 am

Please think this out a little more. I am sick of HP and what they are doing, but they are powerful. Apparently someone monitors PPOV and knows very well about posts like this and call you out on it.

There must be other media outlets that don’t like what she is doing. If you give people negative Obama, negative Obama admin stories on the internet, tv, radio, newspapers people believe it.

Obama’s campaign was fascinating. They took it out of the hands of the media and connected with people 24/7. The administration does not realize the media campaign has not ended.

As I have told you I live in Massachusetts. I am thoroughly disgusted today. Apparently when you don’t like what someone is doing you don’t fight to change it, you just give up and go back. But keep telling yourself you’re sending a message.

There has to be another way.

The 7.0 Earthquake in Haiti will be absolutely devastating to the people of this country.

I understand your point. I also understand the media will try to make this an issue of race. Just think how many people are reacting the same as you are. They can try to make it a racial issue, perhaps because of the Katrina outrage. Its about the ratings and right now there all heavily competing amongst each other.

That is except Fox, which had more hate Obama rhetoric this afternoon.

Words that make you cringe

Yes, I’ve hear that explanation too. People believe what they want to believe. At my age the “N” word is a demeaning, derogatory, slur.

I don’t hear Hispanics calling themselves ethnic slurs. I also have heard over the years “we don’t have to call them the “N” word anymore, they’re calling themselves it”.

You can put it to music, say it means something other than it does but it doesn’t change the meaning or the history behind it. Wikipedia states it has a dual meaning in this century http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigga

I detest it. Maybe its an age thing!

» Posted By Pashma On January 11, 2010 @ 12:04 pm

Keven thank you, I agree with your view and the way in which you expressed it.

» Posted By Pashma On January 11, 2010 @ 10:18 am

You may not agree with this view, but there are still people alive and breathing who refer to black people as “Negro” and “Colored” and many other colorful names. From what I read it was a private conversation. Apparently he felt comfortable speaking in terms he usually uses with people who accept them.

AdLib the biggest insult to black people is the “N” word. Do you think Reid is the only politician who said anything like this? No and hell no!

» Posted By Pashma On January 11, 2010 @ 10:12 am

While taking a moment to check other news sources I came across the following headlines:

(CNN) Ex-governor Blagojevich: ‘I’m blacker than Barack Obama’
(HP Headline)Bill Clinton On Obama: ‘A Few Years Ago, This Guy Would Have Been Getting Us Coffee’

Now those two gave me waves of nausea this morning. What Reid said in my opinion shows ignorance, his age and a reflection of who he does and does not socialize with.

Michael Steele disgusts me on so many levels and that he has compromised any self respect. This is the person who said “white republicans are afraid of me”. Michael Steele is a tool.

After reading http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/01/09/reid-apology-for-negro-dialect-comment/, the conversation was private (or so he thought at the time) and although an ignorant statement to make there is some truth to what he said in the article.

I don’t believe in the full context of what I read that there was any racism behind what Reid said. And as a person of color, I’m ready to give you any examples of my own life of how I was raised to not speak or behave as others thought you might because you are of color.

Nominations – The Planet’s Top Posts of 2009

Absolutely! I support President Obama today as I did during the election. I like many, don’t agree with everything, but he’s got a tough job in a changing and difficult time in history.

I get very frustrated by the “expectation” levels of many who seem to honestly believe he was supposed to have solved all problems and fixed the world yesterday.

The post reminded me of some of the sarcastic comments I have made to remind people that we just don’t sit back and complain, but do something. Something positive no matter how small or insignificant we think it might be.

Its part of the Festivus post by Marion.

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU

There are so many great posts….I joined PPOV because of PepeLepew’s “Why I Blog” and although I’m still reading Marion’s “A Festivus Message”, I got hooked from I am very disappointed in Barack Obama. Still reading….
