Justice Scala Upholds Injunction Ending History

😆 One of your best, Adlib! But I’m worried poor old Scaly is going to give himself a heart attack after this week. Well, a little worried….

Ted Cruzin’ For a Political Bruisin’

Somebody else probably said this but apparently those “Liberty” U students were required to attend this thingie, hence some of them wearing their Rand Paul t-shirts.

I read elsewhere that Maddow has suggested this is actually a kick off to his campaign for the vice presidency. If he can get enough wackos on his wacko wagon, then he might get “hitched” to a more viable candidate.

I think Cruz is a scary creepy dangerous man. There is something wrong with him — even more so than the average conservative megalomaniac.

Will 2015 Be a Good Year for Americans?

Happy New Year, planeteers. It should be interesting to see how the GOP struggle with itself will turn out. I think it’s telling that Jeb Bush’s recent indicators have already put him in the “lead” though this could just be a continuation of that rather hilarious “flavor of the week” thing that happened during the 2012 GOPer primaries. If he stays in the “lead,” I think it’ll empower Boehner and the other so called “moderates” to fight off the extremists like Cruz. My greatest hope is that Cruz et al get miffed and start their own party, thus splitting the conservative vote.

The Torture Report – An Organization Held to Account…But Not One Single Person

I saw one rightwing goober on TV claim in one breath that 1) it stopped under Bush not Obama and 2) it was the right thing to do. If that makes any sense.

Ugh. I can’t stand the thought that my tax dollars helped finance this and that it was done, so to speak, in my name and in the name of all Americans.

A Thanksgiving Tradition – 2014

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Adlib and Planeteers! I just returned home from a beautiful hike in a misty rainforest. It truly doesn’t get any better than that.

The Ferguson Grand Jury Decision

Thanks for the link to the transcript, Kalima. I want to make time to read through this and decide for myself. There’s so much anger and emotion involved at this point, I really don’t feel like any media sources are particularly reliable.

Morning Blog — 11-20-2014

Hi Kalima,
I’ve got a question for you. A friend posted an article on facebook from something called “yournewswire” (never heard of it) which quotes several Japanese sources, claiming that the dead dolphins that recently washed up on shore in Japan had some sort of lung condition that points at radiation poisoning. I can’t find any reliable source to confirm this and I’m skeptical. The quotes all use google translate, which of course makes for some real garbled reporting. The Japanese sources are: EneNews, Systran, and Fukushima Diary. Here’s the article: http://yournewswire.com/dead-dolphins-in-fukushima-stranding-found-with-white-radiated-lungs/

Have you heard of any of these Japanese sources? Do you think they are reliable? What do you think?

A GOP Majority in the Senate: A GOP Nightmare In the Making

Here’s hoping the rightwing fringe wackos make life truly miserable for what’s left of the establishment GOP during the next two years. I do resent having to pay their salaries during this period, knowing that they won’t earn them.

CNN, MSNBC and Fox News to Sue Ebola For Underperformance

Hilarious, Adlib. I loved CNN’s big headline today, about how the hysteria is spreading much faster than the disease. As if they had nothing to do with it.

Ebola And The GOP Deregulation

If people did the right thing without being forced to by regulations, then we wouldn’t need those regulations. It’s too bad, but humans are flawed, greedy, and act primarily in their own self interests. From its very inception, capitalism has shown that it can only work for society if it is heavily regulated. Otherwise, you end up with owners and slaves, or some variation of it.

Boots On The Ground?

😆

» Posted By GreenChica On October 8, 2014 @ 9:53 pm

Kalima, I’d like to twist that Panetta’s big nose.

» Posted By GreenChica On October 8, 2014 @ 7:54 pm

I agree with you Nirek. No boots on the ground. It’s galling how the Iraqi army just seemed to disappear in a puff of smoke. How many billions did we throw at that “army”?

I agree with kes that bombing their positions to help the kurds is good but I’m also aware that I am swayed by the horror beheading vids, which generate an emotional reaction in me and lust for revenge. Whenever I feel lust for revenge I stop trusting my “opinions” fully.

Building ebola clinics in Africa seems like a much more worthy project for “boots on the ground.”

Those people screaming for boots in Syria were the same people screaming about the deficit last year. Remember the debt ceiling / government shutdown? What happened to that?

Dear Trolls: Yes, I do think Barack Obama is a Very Good President and Here is Why

Thanks for the reminder, Murph. I’ve been feeling cranky with the president ever since he approved those damn sonic canons they use in the ocean to hunt for oil. I am still flummoxed by that. However, I agree he’s pulled off some amazingly progressive changes considering the saboteurs from the right and their billion dollar masters. I am a bit discouraged these days about our system’s sluggish response to environmental issues but I can’t think of anyone I’d rather have in the White House. I know in my heart that Mr. Obama is a genuinely decent human being and his family is spectacular. The thing I admire most about him is his calm, gentlemanly manner. (I like his smile too.) Surrounded by myopic hysterics on both fringes and a dysfunctional congress, he keeps his cool.

Could Electing Hillary in 2016 Assure a Republican President in 2020?

KT, I think that is precisely what happened with Obama AND the Clintons. I think the Clintons started out as liberal hippie types, but so many years in government transformed them into cogs in the machine.

» Posted By GreenChica On September 18, 2014 @ 1:13 pm

Agreed, slm. Obama could suggst trimming the hedges and it would become a subversive plot to spy.

» Posted By GreenChica On September 18, 2014 @ 1:11 pm

ad, I watched the FDR segment last night. He ws able to accomplish amazing changes too but he had two huge advantages (in addition to Dem congress). The nation was completely shell shocked by the depression and WWII. People were truly desperate. We don’t have anything near that sort of crisis
mentality now (tho in my opinion we should because of climate change). I think Teddy had a grizzly bear personality and it’s possible that alone enabled his changes. But there were such obvious inequities for women and labor, plus industrial pollution — the country was ovrripe for change. And what followed teddy? Years of right wing leaders and stock market speculation & corruption…leading to the big crash.

Obama isnt a bully type but he’s extremely agile and clever. If he couldn’t pull off the kind of changes we all want, i certainly don’t see a gentle soul like Bernie Sanders for example pulling it off.

(i broke my left hand and it’ hard to type with cast!!!(

Short of a catastrophic change in the American mentality, i don’t see any liberal being successful with radical changes. Call me cynical

Comparing the man in the white house today with the man who wrote Dreams from my fathers, I don’t think any real progressive can maintain it while in the white house. The institution and system just don’t provide enough “wiggle room.” You’re still “commander in chief” of a big MIC, no matter how liberal.

In Case You Didn’t Hear, We’re at War

Good points, Adlib. It makes me wonder if we don’t have a co-dependent relationship now with the Iraqi “government.” Why should they do anything if we’ll clean up the mess for them? Aren’t they the folks who dropped their guns and uniforms and skedaddled? Let’s just hope there’s some “tough love” being exercised here.

I saw another interesting point posted on facebook by someone from Occupy Denver. It was a picture of a man who had just had his head chopped off by Saudi religious police for the apparent crime of being a “wizard” or something like that. The picture made its point pretty well.
