We are living in a world that has gone completely bonkers. How else can you explain what happened to a nine-year-old Black girl who was doing something good for her neighborhood only to have the police called on her because some old Geezer saw “A little black woman walking and spraying something on the trees and sidewalk, I don’t know what she’s doing, but it scares me though.”
In his concurrence on Students For Fair Admissions, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote, “In the wake of the Civil War, the country focused on restoring the Union and establishing the legal status of newly freed slaves.”
Interesting phrasing by Thomas. It...
Writers such as James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ibram X. Kendi, and Nikole Hannah-Jones are just a few of the names found on book ban lists. Why? Because they are good writers and ‘touch life often.’
"The majority of the 1,000-plus book challenges analyzed by The Post were filed by just 11 people. Each of these people brought 10 or more challenges against books in their school district; one man filed 92 challenges. Together, these serial filers constituted 6 percent of all book challengers — but were responsible for 60 percent of all filings."
Caitlyne Gonzales shouldn’t have to do what she is doing. That should be the job of her two senators, Ted Cancun Cruz, John Cornyn, and the governor of Texas, Greg Abbot, are the ones who should be advocating for the banning of the AR-15 instead of offering heartfelt prayers and gleefully stuffing their campaign coffers with thousands from the NRA.
It’s obvious what rankles Ms. Salinis; she is an illiterate troglodyte who couldn’t handle seeing a young Black female reciting a poem of hope for this country. Nothing in Amanda’s poem remotely suggests what she claims justifies having this book banned. She is an opportunist taking advantage of the dumbass laws DeSantis pushed through his State Legislature to make Florida an autocratic state.
I think about all the times I didn’t vote because of my religious beliefs, and I get angry. How could I allow a religious construct to keep me from doing something so many Black people gave their lives for?
Have you ever been to a party, just sipping a drink, munching on snacks, chatting with whoever you came with, and checking out some fine-looking people when suddenly, religious zealots took over, separated LGBTQ couples and forced women and...
We are at war right now and we just lost a major battle. Those intent on crushing our democracy are energized by their coup over the majority and they're frothing at the mouth to build upon it. This is a time for bold statements and rallying cries, for leadership on what specifically we can do now and what we need to do in November and beyond to win this war. This is the time for action.
These renegades were on the path of forming the perfect union for themselves.
