The South, to a large extent, remains a closed society. It is less so than 50 years ago, but remains a top down society with strong class and race distinctions.
Race and diversity ( too much of it) were important triggers.
This faction is a major contributor to the ‘paranoid style’ in american politics.
The John Birch Society was part of this ‘tea party’. The mainstream faction of the two parties have, always, had to find a way of accommodating it.
Today, most of this faction is part of the GOP.
My condolences to his family; his IRL friends; his friends here.
He will be missed.
I expect that it will play out into fatuity – crude farce – as this current version of this old faction is arguing about nothing.
At the state level, the GOP were about the same; Christie, at least, talks a good game.

The South has not really had a competitive political climate since about 1824/1828 ( except for short periods).
The media is the largest joke of this campaign.

Also, I think that is the most fatuous. It is as if Seinfeld wrote the script.
Millions will not even notice; and, if they do notice, they will not care. Apathy is a commonplace.
Romney not so well.
The two are going at it hammer and tongs.
I can hear and see the animosity.
Those two dislike each other.
I cannot know who is ‘winning’.
