I wish we could set up a foster children situation to take the children (maybe the moms too) and let them come here for foster care until this damn thing is over. I have a feeling children under five and most women had little to do with this whole civil war thing. I’d take a couple! They say Syrians are leaving at the rate of 5000/day??? Is that right??? » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 4, 2013 @ 7:33 am WATCH LIVE: 50th Anniversary of The March On Washington Bush’s handlers included his “mommy” Karen Hughes. I think I remember that was one of his nicknames for her – but I could be wrong. Have to google it later. But of all his handlers, she was one of the top ones. Just giving due where it is deserved…… » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 29, 2013 @ 5:37 am As I used to say, the best revenge on B Bush is aging well. My goodness, didn’t she look like H.W.’s mama rather than wifey back then??? and as for her precious darling children: Neil taught people that you can get away with stealing (Silverado) and Jeb & George stole the 2000 election. Nice set of family values there, Babs! Not to mention that she likely awards whatever li’l Georgie has done in the bathroom with the words: “Another masterpiece, Georgie!” In all honesty, before we deceive ourselves too greatly into thinking that he was just an idiot (which he is, BTW) – remember, he took his dad’s retreads and that’s how he got so many of those guys – Cheney, Rummy et al. I’d rather her run for Cruz’s seat, but will take Gov. There are women in DALLAS – meaning Republican women – who are going to help the Dems’ effort. I don’t think they have a clue as to what they stepped in with this one. Now if I only knew someone in films…. I think you know why they are doing this: it’s a win-win for them. Unless, of course, we laugh them off the planet (or Planet) for doing so, which your post helps make possible. Thanks – I’ll send link to all I know (that can appreciate it) and hope it goes viral! I think this is the case! Please explain it to ChicaLib, although from the looks of things, she will likely explain it to you. VERY smart young woman you got there, Daddy-O. But oddly funny, too… » Posted By AlphaBitch On July 25, 2013 @ 1:59 pm Debating the Existence of Racism (and Gravity if We Have Time) Amin, AdLib! Stand up for Muslims. Kes and I are in the SMS – no, that’s not the Stephanie Miller Show, but the Secret Muslim Society. I went on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 to my favorite imam’s masjid, where we stood and sat shoulder to shoulder with Muslims in solidarity. My only “fear” was that Allah/God would strike us all with a bolt of lightening when the Blov was seen to be bowing and praying with the rest of the guys (knowing he now describes himself as agnostic). Bito was also in the “Secret” club. Right here, in San Antonio TEXAS, someone shot out the windows of a restaurant owned by an Iranian woman soon after 9/11. What happened? An outcry of protests from the rich and brave like I have never before heard. Her restaurant, which normally did very little business, was packed to the gills. The wait was over 3 hours! The throngs of support lasted for weeks, and helped her defray her law school expenses. I was so proud. I KNOW who we are, deep down inside, despite the Rick Perrys and their heinously named ranches. But it was great for others to see. And how about my well-known host families, who have embraced these children from Afghanistan, and who love them like their own? And MANY are hard core Republican – those who CAN and DO open their eyes. You just have to keep trying. Never give up. Stand up and be counted. We are out to register voters on Saturday OR Wednesday. waiting for the assignment. AND I have two more deputy registrars in waiting to help. Game on. – AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On July 18, 2013 @ 12:00 pm AdLib and Choice: It has been my experience (and of a personal nature) that as those who wish to control others start to lose their grip, they get more and more violent. I Look at the case I mentioned before – in the Dead Before Sunset book – as the victim REALLY “broke free” from the grip of her oppressor, he wobbled like a top, becoming more and more bizarre and more and more dangerous. It ended with him beating his soon to be ex wife to death with a flashlight. The investigator called it one of the most vicious crimes he had ever seen, and I could not even stay in the courtroom for the blood spatter expert. It’s the EXACT same thing happening in Afghanistan right now. As the Taliban watched their reign of terror dissipate, as more and more young people learned there was a world outside and that the internet existed, they have become more and more determined to take over. Khalid Hosseini himself spoke to this at a book signing. When the U.S. leaves next year, things will get MUCH worse. But over the next 10-20 years, things will likely change because no matter how much you try, when people are shown the truth, it’s hard to keep control. So yes, it’s likely to get much worse for women, for minorities, for the poor – but take heart in why this happening. It’s a dying gasp of an obsolete system of greed and corruption. WE just have to keep moving through it, for Trayvon, for Planned Parenthood and the right to choose, for religious freedom, for equality and justice. Or at least that’s my two cents. – AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On July 17, 2013 @ 5:05 am The Weekend Music Thread-The Power of Women Ruthie again People Grinning in Your Face

» Posted By AlphaBitch On June 29, 2013 @ 1:33 pm Ah, Funk! What a wonderful dream, and one we share with you. I’ve referred to you many times as “that mother….”, so Happy Mothers Day to you, too, Funk-man, and to Mrs. Funk and Little Funk. Life is a slog, but there can be moments that truly take your breath away. It is not for the cowardly (go hide in that “undisclosed bunker location”, Dick) but only for the brave. And believe me when I tell you: the things I have seen “my” kids overcome mean it is possible for each and every one of us. I was once with my first years AFG students, trying to talk about societies that honor all forms of life, vs. those that don’t see the value in living things, and I began talking about Old Yeller. I started crying, then I tried to sing the theme song and tell them how I can’t even hear the song. The two girls got all teary with me; the Pup was consolatory, but probably thinking “Man! When you saw the – what I called at the time – underhandedness and sneakiness of Nixon, and what it ended up costing BOTH the US AND VIETNAM in terms of lives and blood – wow. It was as shocking to me as reading – and you must read it – Charlie Wilson’s War. The movie sucked en homage to Joanne Herring. The book told it straight. Hard to believe we could do that.
