Time Out for O/T – Vol. 2

Oh, I hope she does! The more money the GOP wastes fighting off the crazies, the better. Besides, she made a fantastic costume for last Halloween. It was the scariest thing I had ever worn.

Time Out for OT – Vol. 5

I just saw this mentioned on the Daily Kos Midday Open Thread. It’s wonderful, and I’ll be showing it to my kids when they get home from school. Please send our thanks to your son.

Time Out for O/T – Vol 4

Howdy, Neighbor! My name’s Tina, and I’m in Fair Oaks. It’s fairly conservative over here, so it’s always nice to know that we’re not alone.

» Posted By tb92 On February 24, 2010 @ 3:00 pm

Ah, but that’s different. Fox News says so.

If this election comes down to a Mormon woman vs. Jerry Brown, my father’s head will explode.

I’m just outside Sacramento, and I can’t say that Californians seem any smarter, but we’re certainly more desperate. We can only hope that the state has the sense to blame the GOP for the disastrous mess they’ve created.

It feels so good to have at least one Congressional member who is actually working for us. Boxer may have a fight on her hands this year, so we all have to do our part to help her keep her seat.

Time Out for OT – Vol 3

That’s clever. Good for them!

I think that any the Congress doesn’t get around to acting upon within six months of the nomination should automatically be approved. The people they really objected to have already been turned down, so let’s just move it along.

Of course, I would have preferred that Harry Reid actually do his job and insist that the Senate do theirs.

Claire McCaskill asks the Missouri GOP if they really want her to give back the stimulus funds. It’s a brilliant bit of politics:

What an amazing story. We can only hope, that if the time comes, we’ll be able to find a measure of that courage in ourselves.

This is fantastic! “House Democrats are going to force their Republican colleagues to vote on a resolution opposing the privatization of Social Security.”

The only positive aspect is that the next time a Progressive says that the two parties are the same, I’m going to remind them that the President chooses the SC judges. And all the men who voted for this atrocity were put on the bench by Reagan or a Bush. Gah.

Morning Blog-7-3-10

Sigh. No luck yet. There are a lot of places talking about what the law says, but I still can’t find it IN the bill. Any other suggestions will be highly appreciated.

» Posted By tb92 On April 3, 2010 @ 8:55 pm

On my way. Thanks!

» Posted By tb92 On April 3, 2010 @ 8:36 pm

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Unfortunately, my brother is not feeling very trusting right now, and insists on seeing it in the law itself. I’m going to go check out the trollbusters area, and see if I can find more details. Thanks!

Please help me search the new health insurance laws! The Democrats and media keep saying that children with preexisting conditions will be able to get coverage from the insurance companies in six months. My brother swears that there is no such provision in the law, and after searching for an hour, I can’t find it. It has to be there, right? Has anybody actually seen this, and can you tell me where to find it? It’s making me crazy. Thanks!

Glen Beckistan Strikes Again but this Time with a Dem

CBS News says that this is his third time fighting this cancer. A friend of mine, who has worked with cancer patients, says that some become irrational near the end, and she’s afraid that Massa is showing signs of that.

Join MoveOn’s Virtual March for Health Care Reform Today!

Rumor going around is that the counter keeps going at whatever rate it was moving when you logged on, so you have to renew to get the current count. I was disappointed the first time, when it dropped about 50,000, but sometimes it actually goes up. The current count is well over a million, though, and that’s all that matters.

Democrats: Are We the Knee-Jerk Party or Just Jerks?

This is a wonderful clip, and I find it very reassuring. See, as much as I want to believe in President Obama and the Democrats, I frequently find myself questioning why they do what they do. It’s uncomfortable. But Clinton’s words have reminded me that living in reality, rather than denial, means facing facts even when they’re not what you want to hear. To support the Dems without question would make me just as much an ideologue as the GOP. I prefer to be honestly uncomfortable.

Night of The Living Reform

Watching the counter is addictive. We’ve added a hundred thousand in approximately fifteen minutes! Keep it up, folks.

The American Crash

Here’s an important difference for them–if he truly believed that he was being unfairly treated and needed to punish those involved, he would have taken a gun and gone after the politicians or IRS agents who had created the problem. To fly into a building filled with people who had nothing to do with his situation is by no definition an act of resistance. It’s insane or evil. And if his goal was to create fear among everyone who works for, or NEAR, the IRS, then he is a terrorist.

Yes, I think he had some important things to say, and he certainly found a way to have his message heard, but he could have at least had the guts to make it personal.

This man was a cowardly, sick bastard, and anyone who condones his behavior is just as bad.

New Populist Group – Vote For Your Favorite Names!

I keep wishing that it was “Grass Roots over Korporations”, so we could call ourselves GROK.

How geeky is that?

Americans United

It’s a brilliant idea. Quite frankly, I have no idea where to start, but I’m willing to help if someone else does.

Hiyao Miyazaki, Japanese legend

Miyazaki is absolutely brilliant. His are probably the best children’s movies out there. But your warning is valid. Some of his stuff is great for small kids, but much of it is not. I personally thought Spirited Away was intense even as an adult. Before allowing a child to watch one, adults should always check it out themselves, first.

As a pre-school teacher, I have to say, it’s very common for kids to want to watch a show repeatedly if they are frightened by it. They are trying to give themselves time to become familiar, and gain mastery, over the movie and the feeling it creates. But it’s usually preferable to keep them away from anything that traumatizes them until they’re older.

Thanks for the heads up about the new film. I’ll be watching for it.

Are We Really Liberals and Progressives?

Hey, KQark, I would love to read that list, but the link isn’t working. Where can I find it? Thanks!

» Posted By tb92 On January 31, 2010 @ 10:49 am

I think I prefer to define these words more in line with the dictionary. For me, Liberal means “favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties” and Progressive means “favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, esp. in political matters”. By these definitions, I am clearly both.

» Posted By tb92 On January 30, 2010 @ 11:17 am

I score about the same on this list. 90% Progressive/100% Liberal. I believe our military presence must be reduced, but I’m not willing to bring everyone home. And I still think there is a rare use for the death penalty. But I try to keep in mind that many people say that even Americans who consider themselves liberals are really only center-left. I think it’s hard for Americans to be thoroughly progressive, because we’ve been raised with too much paranoia.

President Obama Confronts the GOP Head On

“Damned if they didn

» Posted By tb92 On January 30, 2010 @ 11:26 am

I am astounded that the GOP allowed this to be televised. Did they really think they were going to take on the most gifted orator of this generation, and win? Beyond the sheer evilness of their ideas, it’s their arrogance that I find most appalling.

I thought there were times when Obama didn’t really answer the question, but he did a fantastic job of condemning the obstructionism and blaming everything, deservedly, on the Republicans. Simply brilliant.

For the last few months, I was afraid that he was in over his head, or simply too naive to handle the job. Apparently not. Thank the Gods.

What would you like to hear in the State of the Union?

I would love to hear this statement: “I had hoped that I could work together with the Republicans, the Blue Dog Democrats, and Wall Street. I now know that is impossible. From here on out, I will do what is necessary to help the American people–with jobs, mortgages, civil rights, and health care–without concern for the feelings of my opponents. It is acceptable for them to hate me, so long as the work gets done.”
