The Vulture’s latest venture will prove to be her most spectacular flop to date.
It will be interesting to see if, or how quickly she acknowledges it…
And where,(or on whom), she attempts to place the blame for the fiasco that it is sure to be.

Republicans to Pass Automatic Impeachment Bill For Future Democratic Presidents

Kesman,
The adjectives that come to my mind regarding Ann Coulter…
She is a parody, and Twitter is the perfect place for that…
Look at Sarah Palin…

Too funny,
But sadly, not surprising.
In the same vein, I’ll see if I can put Ann Coulter’s latest absurdity on to this thread.

An earnest, though not very bright aide to the Speaker, who’s job it is to monitor social media, may see this ‘article’ and forward it to his/her boss.
The Speaker will slap his forehead while exclaiming in his cigarette-scotch-induced baritone voice….
“Damn, why didn’t someone think of this sooner?”

Like many from my generation, (born in ’57), I smoked weed pretty regularly in the ’70’s.
Sometime during the mid-80’s, I kind of out-grew the practice. I would still take a puff now and then if it was offered to me, but I didn’t keep a stash anymore.
Fast forward to 2005…
My partner and I had returned to live in his country of birth, The Netherlands (which turned out to be a very good decision for several reasons).
I was diagnosed with cancer.
My treatment involved radiation 5 days a week for 7 weeks, and chemo-therapy twice a week during that same period.
I felt very fortunate to be in the Netherlands because of their health care system.
(That is obviously for another post).
I did meditative yoga to get me through the various treatments which did wonders for my mind, but about two weeks into the treatments, my body started reacting.
The worst was the total lack of appetite and the nausea.
I started dropping pounds rapidly, which was obviously not a good thing because those pounds were my body’s reserves to fight both the disease as well as the treatments.
As fate would have it, (and this having taken place in Amsterdam), directly across the street from my pharmacy was a “Coffee Shop”.
I had a light-bulb moment, went in and emerged with a little packet of ‘mild’ weed.
Yes, they have a menu, so one can choose.
I went for the mild stuff because I hadn’t smoked for a while.
I’ll now cut to the chase…
The results were instantaneous.
Appetite returned and the nausea all but disappeared.
So, I added weed to my yoga to get me through my ordeal both physically as well as mentally.
It is now 10 years later, and I have been cancer-free for the last 8.
As reported elsewhere, marijuana [obviously] has other medicinal benefits as well.
Most of the drugs big-phrma puts out are derived from plants.
Of course the pharmaceutical lobby doesn’t want marijuana legalized as they won’t make a profit on it.
It is beyond cruel to me to make such a substance illegal for those who could benefit from it’s use in such a clear and provable way.
As to the recreational use, also as pointed out elsewhere, with plenty of literature available on the subject…
Marijuana does no harm to the body, is not addictive, and is certainly not a “Gateway Drug” as some would have us believe.
There is ZERO REASON for it to still be criminalized.
And btw,
While I don’t smoke it everyday any longer, I do partake a couple of times week from the teensey crop I grow myself….
It elevates Ben and Jerry’s to a whole new level :)>
My riff on the subject…

Let’s Put the Blame Where it Belongs

Nirek,
You are absolutely correct,
The fault lies with those who voted these treasonous traitors into office.
The question now is, will they have the common sense to vote them out?

Could Hillary Clinton Become the Next Republican President?

You make good points…
Sadly.

» Posted By kevinbr38 On July 10, 2014 @ 4:59 am

Great article AdLib,
My takeaway from it at this point, is that we all need to do a better job of supporting President Obama for the remainder of his term…
Starting by voting EN MASSE in this year’s midterms.
While no Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, or Sherrod Brown, Mr. Obama is certainly to the left of, more representative of Progressive ethics than is Hillary Clinton.
If she runs, and I truly believe she will, she would be well-advised to name one of those three as her running mate.
That would demonstrate that she understands our thirst for a more progressive stance from the White House, and would go a long way towards assuaging some of the skepticism that may have towards her.
And of course, would lay the groundwork for a more progressive government out of Washington after she leaves office.

The Irresponsible Electorate and the 4th of July

Great post AdLib.

» Posted By kevinbr38 On July 4, 2014 @ 4:55 pm

Hi Vegas…
Yes, we’re all sated here after a nice cookout and good wine.
As to your observation, I suppose the catch word is “activist”….
As opposed to simply being an observer on the sidelines, and, hopefully, going to the polls every two yrs.
We have this wonderful tool at our disposal these days, the internet.
It can provide people with the means to truly learn how our government works, at all levels…
Federal, state, and local…and how one affects the other.
We can join or organize groups for discussion, and planning activities.
For example, while I was still in Te States, I did car pools for the elderly to get them to their polling stations.
Here in France, I’m very active in Democrats Abroad
It doesn’t really matter what specifically each of us does specifically, simply that each of us must do something.
I suppose there is apathy involved, but on the other hand, it could also be that people don’t know where to start, how to get involved.
Its crunch time.
Anyway,
Have a great weekend:)>

This has been a reflective 4th of July for me.
My partner and I enjoyed our cookout..
Our canine and feline children enjoying bones of perfectly seasoned and slow-cooked spare ribs.
However, with the Supreme Court rulings of the past couple of days, I cannot help but feel disheartened, and sad for the current state of our union.
The republican party has succeeded in blurring the lines between the legislative and judicial branches of government.
With the Hobby Lobby decision, it is as if businesses will be treated as religious institutions, while Citizens United has seen to it that corporations are treated as people
In the meantime, real people are being relegated to a status of disposable, interchangeable worker drones, who’s sole task is to smooth the way for an easy life for the financial elite.
Those who by the way, take their easily acquired wealth, and quickly remove those monies from the American economy, stashing them away in safe-havens off-shore.
As Murph so accurately points out, the only solution to this imbalance is for ordinary citizens to educate themselves on how government actually works, and based upon that knowledge become political activists.
We didn’t arrive at this place overnight, and it will take commitment, (and many election cycles), to finally bring the country to the place our Forefathers actually envisioned.
Happy Fourth everyone,
Let’s get to work.

Is The United States Of America A Christian Nation?

Excellent post Killgore Trout…
I would take it one step further and point out the hypocrisy of those who would call themselves patriots, while at the same time attempting to make Evangelical Christianity not only our spiritual guide, but the actual basis for our laws as well.

Hobby Lobby, Contraception and Bearing False Witness

The Robert’s Court has all but succeeded in turning businesses into churches, corporations into people, and real people into little more than annoying distractions, impediments to the agenda of the likes of the Koch Brothers.
It is going to take at LEAST two election cycles to right these wrongs.
Get out the vote this November as if your life depended on it…
Because in a very real way, it does.

The Court Ruling that Could Kill ACA

Further proof of how successful republicans have been in blurring the lines between the Legislative and Judicial Branches.
In this case, the courts stand poised to do what [The Republican House] has not been able to accomplish, only in a much more vicious fashion….
The House has tried repeatedly to simply kill the legislation, (ACA)…
The judiciary would have it, (and those who make use of it), bleed to death, slowly and painfully.
This goes far beyond a government that is ‘broken’.
This is a government that is a millimeter away from being taken over.
The executive branch, President Obama, is all that stands in the way of this occurring.
Is it any wonder that they are going to unprecedented lengths to render him powerless?
He is tenacious and intelligent, but now more than ever needs the full and unwavering support of the America electorate.
It is only to be hoped that they are made to see just how dire the situation really is.

Where’s the Headline on Human Extinction?

Dimbulb,
I seriously question the validity of your statement…
Perhaps you could provide a link, or two.
However, even if it was true, let us examine what 100 years represents in the lifespan of this particular planet…
Seen through our eyes, it is a generation or two…
However seen through the lens of the age of the planet, it is but a mere blip.
Humans purportedly possess superior mental abilities
compared to the other species we share this planet with.
Would not a superior mind be able to put a blip in time, (100 years), in perspective in regards to the entire lifespan of the planet, our solar system, galaxy and beyond?
We are a mere grain of sand in this universe…
What about the possibility that the number of universes is infinite?
100 years?
If blowing your nose could prevent you from passing on a chronic respiratory illness to your offspring, would you not purchase and use a box of Kleenex?
