Displaying 151 To 180 Of 466 Comments Texas Has Finally Gone Full Metal Straightjacket Ever wondered what would happen if Texas ever managed to “secdee” from the Union? The federal loans that prop up Texas economy would end and Texas poverty would skyrocket. As their poverty increased, so would their paranoia. The entire Texas border would be fenced in with barbed wire. Fracking would make all Texas ground water undrinkable, so Texas would have to ship all their drinking water in from outside their “country”. Free of the American Constitution, Texas would be free to institutionalize racism, reinstitute slavery, make guns available to everyone except so-called “undesirables” who are no good for anything except cheap labor. It would basically be the Lone Star version of North Korea. Worst of all, they would no longer be free to shout out “‘MERICA!” » Posted By jjgravitas On May 9, 2015 @ 5:33 pm Senator Bernie Sanders For President! I would definitely vote for Bernie Sanders for POTUS. I would also vote for Hillary Clinton if she were the nominee. Excellent article, Adlib, one of your best. When you boil it down, republicans stand for screwing over as many people as possible, to the benefit of the oligarchs who pay for their campaigns. Any way possible. War benefits the guys who build the tools of war (guns, planes, etc.) and corporations that provide the contractors who fill in for the soldiers we can’t provide because we don’t have a draft because we don’t need a draft because we don’t need war (repeat ad infinitum). The bigotry towards Latinos, women, blacks, and whoever else is all because republicans can’t function without an “underclass” of people to be treated like dirt because we left the slave culture behind over 150 years ago. Now That’s conservative. Regarding Armageddon, those who are destroying our planet through deforestation and pollution of the land air and water are doing it for one simple reason: money. Although I grew up Catholic, I never read the Book of Revelations and don’t advise anyone else to, its fantasy crap: loony visions about the end of the world. But these are the twisted freaks that the republican machine bends over for. » Posted By jjgravitas On April 13, 2015 @ 6:04 pm INcensed: Republicans Surprised That Making Homophobia Legal is Offensive GOPTEA have their collective heads buried so far up each others’ asses it’s unsurprising they don’t realize that the majority of the country doesn’t feel or think they way they do. We try and try to hide them away, or at least teach them how to be civil and respect everyone else, but despite our efforts they continue to come out and make complete asses of themselves and embarrass us in the eyes of the rest of the world. Every time the Republicans pull something, it invariably blows up in their faces, makes them look like the idiots that they are, and President Obama’s popularity increases. How could it not? PBO is gettin’ it done. The Repubs are ruining themselves and everyone around them. Shame on anyone who still supports them. » Posted By jjgravitas On March 13, 2015 @ 4:29 pm Hey AdLib, great article. I just have to point out that North Korea already Does have a nuclear bomb, and they aren’t considered a threat to the world, despite how obnoxious and belligerent they continue to be. NK doesn’t have rockets powerful enough to get a bomb even halfway to the good ol’ USofA, although they might be able to send a bomb over to Israel, if they really wanted to (they don’t). Interesting that NettinYahoo isn’t focused on this, nor is anyone else for that matter. » Posted By jjgravitas On March 13, 2015 @ 3:57 pm Nirek, you have a gift for understatement, but you are exactly right. The KXL Pipeline is the most unnecessary, destructive, and stupid idea that the GOP has had since the Iraq War. I am quite sure that republicans don’t look into the facts behind any of the ideas they push. Seems like they just pick up the checks from their benefactors and push the ideas without any consideration. makes me wonder how long they think this method of operating can last. » Posted By jjgravitas On February 23, 2015 @ 2:07 pm Why Some Fundamentalist Christians Are Aligned With ISIS We truly live in a 21st Century world of supervillains, with no superheroes to save us from them. » Posted By jjgravitas On February 18, 2015 @ 11:24 am Chris Christie Courts Pro-Measles Voters Ad, I can’t help it, I still want to piss on a republican. Even more worrisome when you consider that virtually all of our most important cities (in the world, not just in the USA) are coastal cities (or very near the coast). New York, Washington DC, Miami, New Orleans, Houston (further inland but entirely vulnerable as East Texas is so flat), Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, all of Great Britain and most of West and Southern Europe, all of Eurasia, all of the major cities of Australia, I could go on and on. Who really watches FOX Snooze anymore, aside from conservative politicians looking for ideas on how to run the country, religious cults looking for a new outlet for suckers, and brain-dead morons who don’t really know what they’re watching? Sometimes it seems like there is an ongoing competition between the Tea Party and Fox Snooze to see who can dome up with the stupidest idea of the week. Break a record. How conservative does the GOP have to get before even republican voters in the Midwest start throwing up? » Posted By jjgravitas On January 15, 2015 @ 2:22 pm Actually, Adlib, the GOP automatically reacts negatively to anything Obama does or doesn’t do, even when he matches the record of previous GOP presidents or governors (Obamacare was modeled after Romneycare yet the GOP still completely rejects it). Obama to the GOP is like Pavlov’s dog in reverse. Anything our president does makes the GOP squeal with horror. » Posted By jjgravitas On January 13, 2015 @ 6:59 pm It’s natural for the GOP top criticize our POTUS for missing out on the French photo-op, since meaningless posing is the only thing the GOP has any talent for. That aside, the Republican clown car has doubled down on their foolishness for entertaining this foreign boob.
And then there was that stupid letter from the Repubs to Iran. Don’t get me started on that.
Yet.
Adlib, since the early days following the aftermath of 9/11, I’ve been saying that the Christian Fundamentalist right wing and the Islamic extremists are two sides of the exact same coin. Looks like I was right. And perhaps that’s where the solution lies: fight Islamic fire with Christian fire.
Since the fundamentalist RWNJ’s are so hot to turn this into a Holy War, I say we let them. Recruit the entire Christian right wing to build God’s own army of Christian soldiers, and send them all over to Iraq. Sell it as making the world safe for Christian America. Since they distrust our government so much, let the GOP do all the strategy and planning. Encourage GOP politicians to visit the war zone as much as possible, which should be easy since they don’t really do anything anyway. Recruit Fox News to cover the battle on site. Pat Robertson could be the Chaplain. Let it be the Holy War to end all Holy Wars.
What’s the worst that could happen?
Y’know, When I Was A Kid (and yes I hear the irony in that phrase), ignorance and stupidity were considered by the Public to be a disease and it was our duty as Americans to wipe them out. But it seems that the Great Minds of the Republican Party have decided that Stupidity can also be a Choice, and they choose it again and again.
With all this talk about anti-vaccinations and anti-cleanliness, I’ve thought of a great way to find out if the Republicans really believe what they are saying. Next time you meet a republican, hold him down and piss on him. See if he objects.
I haven’t been in a movie theater in over 10 years, so I won’t be seeing Selma until its available for streaming on cable. Important though it is, I expect that this film is not popular in the South & Midwest as it is about what they would refer to as an “uprising” of the very people they wished would remain in the shadows. Sad but inevitable. Action blockbusters are what put asses in the seats. How is the film doing in the Northeast?
This event reminds me of an old word that used to be applied to the conservatives: “reactionaries.” The GOP is all about the big reaction to whatever, but has no useful ideas of their own.
