CL, At least Obama wants to keep the tax cuts for those who get $250k or less. That tax break also applies to those over that amount just up to that amount. Americans 98% of us fit into that category. So I feel that Obama is FAR better than any other choice we have. » Posted By Nirek On July 16, 2012 @ 5:11 pm When the poor finally unite and vote in a block they may get some action. The only thing to add is that if the gopers lie enough times they start to believe their own lies. The rank and file republicans hear those lies and they too start to believe them. They said we were fighting over there (Vietnam) so we would not have to fight them here. I knew that was bullshit. I saw lots of corruption while in country. And the South Vietnamese harbored (I don’t blame them) VC and tried to divert our attention so the VC could get away. We could not tell VC from SV. They all dressed in black PJs and wore those conical hats and Ho Chi Minh sandals (made from tires). » Posted By Nirek On June 12, 2012 @ 6:50 am CL, as I said I was drafted in 67 , if my Dad had not been a career soldier and WWII vet I would have gone to Canada. I was against the WAR, but served because I could not disgrace Dad. Served my two years and got out. Protested the WAR and hold no grudge against anyone who avoided the draft. That said I agree that if one was pro WAR he should have served. Otherwise he (Mitt) deserves the title “chickenhawk” ! » Posted By Nirek On June 11, 2012 @ 9:33 am Sue, I am exactly the same age as Mittens. I was drafted in 1967 at 21 and spent 1969 in Vietnam. Upon return to the “world” as we called America I protested the WAR and have been loud about being against the present WARS we are in. I strongly recommend that we study history and learn from our folly in Nam and the Russian folly in Afghanistan. There is no upside to waging WAR with anyone. If America were invaded like we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq I would take up arms and resist in any way possible. How can we expect to win the “hearts and minds ” of the people who’s country we invaded? We never seem to learn from our experience. » Posted By Nirek On June 11, 2012 @ 9:27 am The Increasingly Elusive Conscience of America Sally, I climbed telephone poles for 32 years in Vermont (winters too) and had to have both knees replaced. The media seems to give the GOP way more passes but come on strong when the President says something. They never ask any hard questions of Romney , they just sit back and let him lie. As to the gay marriage topic, it took some evolution even for me. I understand how it could take a while for people to come around to the (right ) correct side. Equal rights for all. Even for our gay friends, women, and minorities. » Posted By Nirek On May 10, 2012 @ 4:57 pm An America Made in Mitt Romney’s Image Good post Adlib! After all the bible was written by human beings and interpreted and rewritten and reinterpreted by other human beings all of which are and were fallible (imperfect). I say let those who think differently about God do so. If you don’t believe in God that is your choice. I am not going to try to change your mind nor will I push my beliefs on you or any other person. That is what the religious (right) tries to do. Force everyone to believe as they do. You’right Adlib that many of the GOP will will vote for Mitt because they don’t like having a black man as President. I doubt that too many will go that way but there are some who really are bias at best.
Many the enemies we had are now allies, Japan, Germany, and we trade and deal with Vietnam. How long before Mideast countries become allies?
I worked hard for New England Tel&Tel. The disparity of pay is objectionable to me. Compare how hard some work while others sit in meetings and write emails.
The GOP only wants to redistribute wealth upwards. They don’t like regulations that impair their path to cheat the middle class and working poor out of their fair share of the American dream.
The GOPers never think about the wasted $$$$$ by “w”. (out of disrespect for him I use a small “w” !)
Think how well it would work if everyone were to follow that one rule. Simple and to the point. No shades of gray. I try hard to follow it.
Being uninformed or ignorant seems to be the way the GOP wants folks to stay. Then they can lie and get away with it.
Romney delayed his taxes by getting an extension. So we wont be getting a look at where his money goes or how much tax he paid for a while.
All the while the GOPers call for transparency !
