Thought “The Death Panel” was a right wing hoax? Nope. The SCOTUS became a real death panel, allowing states to refuse expanding Medicaid to let the uninsured working poor die from medical neglect. The ongoing deaths of thousands of Americans will now be a dark legacy of The Roberts Court.

Banksy's "The Banality of the Banality of Evil"

Those who have propagated bigotry and hatred for profit like Rush Limbaugh and Fox News have so saturated society with it, that people who join that horrible chorus feel that they are just doing the normal thing.

Obama sotu

It is likely that Pres. Obama may make raising the minimum wage a top priority since it would have a direct impact on aiding those with the lowest incomes (and reducing the cost to the government and taxpayers for subsidizing those low wages of greedy corporations) and make for a better economy.

With the issues India has with gang rape alone, let alone their overall treatment of their women in general, perhaps the best message one could convey to them is don’t bite the flag that feeds you.

And the skies are still weeping.

Yesterday’s shooting at a school in Colorado and the daily shootings at the nation’s schools, in our streets and in our homes should be instructing us and yet we continue to ignore the lesson.

Courtroom

Our legal system has become so arcane and complex, with well intentioned rules and protocol intended to shepherd a decision towards the truth. However, just like our politics, it has also become just another game to manipulate and win, not a genuine search for truth and an application of justice.

judge tears const

The marriage of the white power structure in the South with greed-obsessed businesspeople has borne such “children”. In both cases, there is the mentality of the elitist, those who believe not only that they are superior because they are white and male but that this also entitles them to all that they want for themselves, especially when it comes to money and power.

The enemy is small but incredibly powerful, they mount assaults all across the globe on people everywhere but are like terror cells, operating independently but driven by the same philosophies and practicing the same ruthlessness. The enemy is both foreign and domestic and has more destructive power than any army.

The Hermanas Mirabal(as they are referred to) were four Dominican political dissidents who opposed the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. They called themselves Las Mariposas (the butterflies) because that was the name Minerva Mirabal gave to herself in her underground activities.

The thing is why, as a member nation of the United Nations, would anyone in this country think it ok to withhold certain human rights from certain people? And why would Republicans in Congress hold up re-authorization of a bill for almost two years for the reasons stated above?

It’s that time of year, when the media provides wall to wall coverage of our favorite kinds of celebrities…murderers. Remember the hit(job)s of previous years and their stars, such as Casey Anthony starring in “Whatever Happened to Baby Caylee”, Drew Peterson in “The Usual Suspect” and of course O.J. Simpson in “Liar, Liar”?
