President Johnson (a Texan, and a Democrat) passed civil rights legislation. The South felt betrayed by Johnson and responded by switching parties, becoming overwhelmingly republican. That might have a lot to do with why we are so polarized today. Racism might not have disappeared but it has certainly transformed. Instead of racial persecution, today we have economic persecution. Today, a story like Watergate would be covered by news websites and bloggers such as here, at PlanetPOV. The best example is the way the current student protests are being handled — not so much by the MSM.
I would never want any of that of course, I only want people to recognize that the GOP aren’t working in America’s best interests. Their efforts are only directed towards the benefit of the wealthy, the so-called ‘job creators’. What a crock!
Maybe the U.S.A. is finally ready for fascism. Eliminate Congress. Eliminate the tea party and the GOP, who deal entirely in fantasies and who have never done a single constructive thing for this country.
I heard recently that there are so many loopholes and exceptions in the tax code that tax revenue is virtually nil. And the GOP still insists that we should solve the debt crisis by cutting jobs, not raising taxes.
Is it really any surprise that people are taking to the streets? Where else can they go? I fear that the resulting chaos may make the student protests of the 60’s look like playtime.
And in the midst of all this, we have Rick “Niggerhead” Perry running for president. Imagine what would happen if he were elected.
I was born in Texas and was raised in the Crescent City. I have lived in the D.C. area since my mid-teens. I don’t miss the South.

And I totally don’t get why she likes Obama so much. So what if Obama caught and killed Osama Been Laughin-At-Us-For-Decades before his term was even half up? And who cares if Obama was able to help the rebels in Libyan rebels get Moo-Omar Get-Off-Me with nothing more than a couple of drones and no soldiers So the Big O had more military success in two years than Dubya was able to accomplish in eight.
