My husband is close to being a native, besides the real natives, but he was born in Minnesota and moved here when he was 3 months old when his parents moved here. My husband and I are the biggest fans of Mark Twain and we’re also huge fans of Will Rogers, as he was similar, in my very humble opinion. When I was a small child – 2nd grade going into 3rd – my father drove us out on Route 66 to California to visit my paternal grandpa, and we stopped at the newly erected Will Rogers Museum and to this day, and for as young as I was, I’ve never forgotten that. As for Mark Twain, believe it or not, but I never actually read anything by him – it was never required reading in my private Catholic School – until maybe 5 years ago more or less, when we bought Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and then we so loved them books that we bought others, and I’ve been a huge fan since. Isn’t it amazing that there are school districts that ban his books in the 21st Century? addendum – and off topic, but have you ever read the original version of the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas? My God, that was the most enjoyable and hilarious book! I went through a period whereby I wanted to read the classics, and maybe I should go back to that again. My husband and I did an Earth Day hike yesterday up into the mountains surrounding Saguaro Lake. How does Earth feel about man-made lakes? We were appalled at the amount of garbage on the trail – beer cans and cigarette butts mainly, so we grabbed a bag and picked up what we could, but there was simply too much for us to haul out. As for the Grand Tetons – well, I would ask that Earth remember it was a Frenchman that named the jutting, majestic peaks and it was meant as a compliment! Took three of the tests – and I don’t get it. The tests I took asked what I considered myself and I was very honest in answering, and then it just confirmed that my thoughts about my beliefs were correct. I did get confused, as the tests changed after the first from the “e” and “i”, and the sequence of the good and the bad – and I had lots of red X’s at one point, but then I did them consecutively. My results were that I somehow think more of Obama than Abe Lincoln, and that I think of black and white equally in not one being more angry than the other, and crap, now I forget the third.
