The station’s motto is “Telling it like it is” and shocking, especially in such a Red state, they really do. This is the station locally that no longer airs the “700 Club” and really, isn’t that something that CBS – KPHO – is turning into a ‘liberal’ station for Arizona? Not liberal, but at least trying to get the truth out? According to the local ratings, KPHO is the highest rated station in Phoenix, and so the truth is winning out. They are onto something, and they know it so they are going for it in investigating Brewer’s ties to private prisons. And what the hell? Brewer now refuses to air any of her ads for governor on that station, and believe me, is that not a relief? Who in the hell wants to hear her speak? She’s worse than Sarah Palin, but equal in air-headness – and her voice is grating. I hope that Goddard slams her by airing his ads more so on KPHO, and I really cannot believe that a local CBS station broke rank with the corporate news media and is exposing Brewer and Arpaoi for the pieces of corporate crap that they are. You are such an exceptional photographer and have a gift with the camera. My husband is a Civil War buff and years ago we headed down south through Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and portions of Georgia to visit battlegrounds and monuments of the south. Had to cut the trip short as it was an active El Nino year and tornadoes were a bit too close for comfort, especially in an RV, while in Georgia. Our trip was an interesting adventure and there were a few moments of unease, especially in bo-dunk Louisiana when 2 inebriated locals confronted us at a gas station and wanted to come inside for a tour of our RV and that was an old 1989 rundown used RV and small! We kept our eyes on the mirrors, afraid they were following us because of course we politely said “no, sorry”, but we both swore we could hear “Dueling Banjos” for miles. Strangely, we camped on an old plantation in Alabama, and the huge house still stood, along with some ramshackle slave quarters, but the owners converted part of their plantation into an RV campground and there was an odd feeling there, but was probably our imaginations with the Confederate Flags proudly flying. There are certain portions of the deep south that scare the beejeebers out of me, but I realize now that we should have skipped the south and headed to Virginia. Thank you so much for this diary and allowing us the opportunity to see what we missed. Excellent historical photo essay, Khirad! ps. I really like old cemeteries, too. Have you ever been to Dead Horse off I-17? There is a really old and sadly neglected cemetery there but oh, so fascinating and locals swear it’s haunted. And that priest gave sermons as no other priest had ever done throughout our lives. That priest is no longer a priest because he was liberal and suspected of being gay but that’s an entirely different story. While we were members of that church, we played guitar for the catechism classes and belonged to the choir and we had a wonderful and talented music director, and we also had a wonderful choir that we were so proud to be a part. Our church choir was asked to perform at a MLK day celebration in Mesa at the community center, and for the very first time in my life, I got it. MLK’s message. They played the speech and I was young when Martin Luther King first gave that speech, but at that time years later, I finally listened and heard the message and the moving words from a great man of peace. There are shacks here and very old mobile homes that are grandfathered in, but there are lots of people with money that moved here from Scottsdale. We have no regulations here meaning that we can park our travel trailer on the side of the house and people can have horses on their property. We have mansions here, mixed in with our small 2 bedroom house and chain-link fence, and when we first moved here, people already living here thought we were rich! LMAO That’s why our house assessment rose to close to 400,000 dollars during the peak, and it was because all these rich SOBs moved here from Scottsdale so that they could build their mansions and have their horses on their land. Our house is now valued less than what we paid, yet our property taxes have not gone down. I have no problem with that, except for when housing values start to rise again, I’m not sure that we will be able to afford to live here. We’re dealing with increased health care costs and we haven’t even begun to be able to collect Social Security. My husband will be able to collect Social Security in another 5 years, and odds are, I’ll never be able to collect mine. The only reason my husband retired so young was that he was laid off and yeah, we’ve saved for this, and that means that we were able to take off and go on vacation. But we’re realists, and even we know that if we lose our health care and if our property taxes keep going up, and if one of us gets sick . . . and blah, blah, blah. I promised to reach across the aisle to Republicans, but once I took office, people such as Rush Limbaugh and other FOX pundits vowed that I would fail, and they are sadly, getting their wish and the Republicans in office are helping me fail by obstruction. I ask you, my fellow Americans, to recall when we worked valiantly for the Olympics to be held in Chicago, and when we lost the bid, how the Republicans reacted. The Republicans have become extreme right-wing, and even though they preach less government, they are managing to bring in more government that strip women of their right to a safe abortion, limitations on stem-cell research, and circumventing Federal law according to the Constitution of the United States of America by stopping people of color and demanding their papers. And the Republicans seek to revise the 14th Amendment to punish the children of illegals who come here and are born in the United States of America. I am accused of being a Marxist, Socialist, and across the spectrum I am accused of being a fascist and Hitler because I authorized the loans to the American auto companies that saved millions of American jobs. I have no excuse for saving the banks and mortgage companies and Wall Street, the very entities that caused the economic collapse and so many Americans to lose their homes due to foreclosure, while granting themselves million dollar bonuses. A president can only do so much. As president, I cannot make law, but must rely on both houses of Congress and then when a bill gets to my desk I can either sign it, making it law, or veto it. I had grand visions for America when I took office, but I have learned that there is no reaching across the aisle, and have realized with much sadness that America was not prepared for Her first black president. Many would accuse me from that statement of playing the race card. And that saddens me. I’ve been accused of being a racist against white people whereby my mother was white and after she died from breast cancer that it was my white grandmother who raised me in Hawaii. And yes, my birth certificate can be found from the hospital where I was born online as can a birth announcement. As your president, I cannot accomplish all that I’ve promised without the help of both houses of Congress and you, the American people. Are we going to allow the corporations to rule our country? I am fighting against the Citizen’s United ruling, but I don’t have the support of Congress or the Senate. When it comes to the wars, we have left Iraq when it comes to combat troops, but we must leave 50,000 to help them recover from a war that should have never happened and was based on lies. Afghanistan is a mess, and I agree, but all I can do is listen to top Generals, because when it comes down to the real reasons, I cannot stop the oligarchy that controls our war machine and Wall Street. So, my fellow Americans, I am asking you to help me beat the rich corporations that rule our nation and the beginning to stopping the rich and the corporations is by ending the Bush tax breaks. Couldn’t you almost feel the past? We were in a motor home back then, so we didn’t get to tour the museum and I thank you for the pics, but didn’t you feel the memories? I remember we parked at one spot near trees so that my husband could take pics, and I sat there imagining the battles and then when my husband got back into the RV, he asked me if I felt it, too. They do re-enactments on the fields and there are numerous stories of when they are out there in tents that they can hear the tin cups rattling and horses hooves and the cries and moaning from the dead. I’m into all the ghost stories but didn’t you feel it when you were there? The house was totally closed and we have them security blinds that totally block our windows and patio doors, and we are the envy of our neighbors for that! LOL The house looks great, since I cleaned it before we left, but there is a thin coat of dust but I’ll get my feather-duster on that later. We were up in the cool country and 70 degrees and even 56 for the high in Gros Ventre, which is a campground just outside of The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. My husband even bought slippers since it was 38 degrees some mornings, but we did not complain. When we got home yesterday, it was 107 degrees, and that was a shock to our systems.
