So AdLib, you are telling me that in reality there will be two Tea Party rebuttals to the SOTU speech with Rubio and Paul?

The Gun Debate: A Perspective

No problem, Kalima, I’m sure everything is fine. Thank you for posting!!

» Posted By SallyT On February 3, 2013 @ 4:45 pm

CL, no problem with anyone thinking they are sneaking up on me! My guys are very alert and the barks alone will back you up. People are always wanting to pet them and they do love attention. When someone asks me if they are friendly, my answer is: “Yes, unless I scream.”
And, the answer I get back is: “Please don’t scream.”
Sorry that the Funnies haven’t been published. I guess they are to involved with the Super Bowl. Maybe they will get to them later or they might have to be the Monday Funnies…….? They are there when they get to them. I’ll be watching for you comment!

CL, I understand the need for a gun for the people in the situations you named. They are targets for the irrationals. But, I don’t think even they think they need military style weapons for protection. It does make you stop and think, with all the guns out there, do I need one, too? Right now I will stick with two very large dogs but I do wonder if I should consider the other type of protection.

JMBrodie, I am so sorry. I have had a family member, young nephew, and a friend of my daughters while they were in high school all lost to gun suicide and all too young. I join you with the shuddering when seeing guns. I am so sorry that we have to share that.

» Posted By SallyT On February 1, 2013 @ 4:14 pm

JMBrodie, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this serious issue of gun control. Another matter that does not get any highlight news coverage is the suicides by guns. If someone takes out their whole family and themselves, that will get coverage. But, the lone, lonesome, misunderstood, with no way out in their mind but to put a gun to it, that is not covered.
Suicide is still the leading cause of firearm death in the U.S. More than half of all suicides in the U.S. are committed with firearms. In 2009, a total of 800 young Americans ages 10-19 committed suicide with firearms. Unlike suicide attempts using other methods, suicide attempts with guns are nearly always fatal, meaning a temporarily depressed teenager will never get a second chance at life. Nearly two-thirds of all teenage suicides involve a firearm. Homes with guns are 5 times more likely to experience the suicide of a household member than homes without guns. 48% of gun-owning households with children do NOT regularly make sure that guns are equipped with child safety locks or other trigger locks.
If you have had a family member take their life with a gun, you don’t see them thinking more guns is the answer.
Thank you again, JMBrodie, for your article.

In Remembrance of Bito

FC, thank you for being among my friends. A valuable one. I don’t have many local friends but I think I have lots here on the Planet. To lose one hurts us all. But among us, we have many wonderful memories. When I log on it is like answering my door and finding my friends there waiting to share their thoughts with me and taking the time to hear mine.

» Posted By SallyT On February 1, 2013 @ 3:02 pm

Yes, I remember that he was very much for the column to be started and I am very appreciative. He will be missed by me very much for many things.

» Posted By SallyT On January 31, 2013 @ 6:35 pm

I have nothing to add to all that has been said except that I will miss Bito for all he shared with me. We spent many late nights on here, just the two of us, back and forth. Sometimes we agreed and sometimes not so much. But, sooner or later we got each other to laugh. I knew I had done something good when I saw him post it on twitter. His dedication to this site was obvious. I know we will all miss him but never forget him. I am so glad he touched my life, if only through a computer screen.

REVIEW: Predictable and Repetitive, Has American Politics Jumped the Shark?

CL, it is true that times have been rough before and will again. But, none are ever as bad as the one you actually live. Those before have the history that shows the survival. As you live it, you are not that fortunate. Looking back and studying the forefathers of those times before and their reactions and methods lends to understanding and building on your own time and surviving. Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, Hamilton and Madison all looked backwards to Greece, Rome, and even England to build on their time and the needs for a new nation. But, even at the time, they weren’t for certain it would last. I think they would be more surprised than not to see that it has. And, will.

Weekend Music Thread-Cover Songs

Oh, HELL, this song does not fit how I was feeling during my divorce! NO WAY! Whenever I saw him, I never walked, I ran like a Cheetah and up a tree! Okay, I just needed to clear that up……. 😉

» Posted By SallyT On January 13, 2013 @ 1:44 pm

Okay, KT, you made me really think of anything I could add here on a weekend when I am brain dead! So, I went through the files in my head and thought of Melissa Manchester. (Oh, let me tell you, when I was going through my divorce many years ago, Melissa and I got drunk together many nights!) Dionne Warwick is the only one that can really give a Burt Bacharach and Hal Davis song heart but Melissa does a good rendition “Walk On By”.

EXPERTS: Overuse of Outrage Causing Climate Change

AdLib, I have a great cartoon for Sunday that covers this nut. You are going to enjoy it!

He is one guy that should have his guns taken away! If we try, according to him, 1776 Revolution will rise again. Dah, stupid, you won’t be fighting a government across an ocean from you that only has ships with sails to get to you! And, I don’t think the French are going to fund your revolution, lend their navy and troops to aid you. Let alone the weapons our troops have available to them. Do these dorks even know the Revolutionary War?

» Posted By SallyT On January 9, 2013 @ 5:33 pm

Alex Jones is a nut but he is walking, talking, and yelling proof why there should be gun control! HE HAS GUNS!!!! That is scary!

The Boehner of Contention

Oh, heck Murph, I posted the wrong article on your post first and now I moved it to Off Topic. Sorry! But, I was reading your article and forgot to get out of it. See, you were just so gripping, you had me captured!

You called it as it was, Murph! Not much of a victory there, Boehner! And, they even nominated Allen West and he was voted out of the House! Wow, I probably would cry, too! It’s your party, Leslie Gore/Boehner!

Weekend Music Thread-Songs Of Life and Being

KT, I am glad I brought a wonderful memory back to you today! This is the song that is on the cartoon that pays tribute to Ms. Page in this Sunday’s Funnies. I guess that is the one for you this week! (Now as a little girl my favorite was “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window”) I have to admit that these did bring tears to my eyes, her voice, her style and the memories I have. Good memories!

» Posted By SallyT On January 5, 2013 @ 8:30 pm

KT, I thought we needed a little Patti Page. I was a little bitty girl and I remember loving to listen to her. I think I had some Paper-dolls of her.

The 2nd Amendment, Crazies, and The Social Compact

KT, very interesting and factual article. I only have to say one thing, when you stated: “The Declaration of Independence recognizes as a self-evident truth that “governments are instituted among men/women, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. . . .”, our Founding Fathers did not think of women. You do as we have grown to accept that. Nor did they think of the slaves as a whole person. Our Founding Fathers were great but they were not perfect. Words had different meanings in those days and weapons were no way as powerful as those of today. They did not or could not cover everything as time changes many things. But, I do think that even our Founding Fathers would think that civilians with semi automatic weapons are not a necessity of survival in everyday life. (And, Abigail Adams would be very proud of you for remembering the women!) 🙂

Covering All the Bases: The Pro-Life Party That is Pro-Death

Wow Choicelady, you get em’! They are AHOLES! My hubby once was asked by a friends mother to go with her and her very young daughter to a abortion clinic because they would have to cross the protesters out front. He did and one of them got right in his face and said “You are a murderer and you are going to hell!” Hubby said, “Maybe so but not until I knock you on your ass if you don’t get out of my face.” Of course the guy moved out of the way. The guy from behind said something about Christ watching and hubby said good because he wouldn’t want Jesus to miss it. Needless to say, hubby didn’t get violent. If he had, I would have been disappointed because I never have seen him that way before. But, the guy wasn’t totally stupid because he knew when to stop pushing with my hubby.

» Posted By SallyT On December 20, 2012 @ 11:15 pm

Oh, AdLib, you would win. But, I will give you a couple to top.

“I’m Pro-Life and I’m Packing Sperm and a Big Gun, cocked and loaded!”

“Look My AR-15 assault rifle in the barrel and tell me you aren’t Pro-life!”

» Posted By SallyT On December 20, 2012 @ 7:52 pm

Oh KT, you always know where to find something that tops me and makes me look like the amateur that I am!

CHICKENS ARE GOOD PEOPLE! Gee, I miss him! Oh, how I would love to see his stand-up routine on “Corporation are people”.

Okay, I won’t book myself at the Comedy Club. You probably would be the only one to show anyway. 😉

» Posted By SallyT On December 20, 2012 @ 6:54 pm

Got some good one liners there, AdLib! You are right, the Republicans are Pro-Birth and then Pro-You Are On Your Own You Lazy, Suck Tit Moocher! Can you see that on a bumper sticker? It will fit on those Monster Trucks with the 3 gun rack on the rear window. 🙂

Enough Unnecessary Tragedy, Time to Disarm America and the NRA

AdLib, it is not too early to talk about gun control, it is too late. Everyday gets us later and later from doing something! More lives lost is too late! If having more guns makes us safer, with all the guns in the United States we should be the safest place on earth. But, we are not such a place. We are not a new country, with no army with weapons to protect us, we no longer need to feed ourselves from our daily kill of animals, nor do we need to protect ourselves from the natives that we are stealing from. This is why our Founding Fathers put it in the constitution. And, those crazies that think we need weapons to protect us from our government, well, get real! The government has drones now! Even semi automatic weapons will not hold off a tank! There is no logic to the 2nd Addendum now as it was originally intended.

Okay, maybe if you live were there are rattlesnakes and you don’t have a big rock, a pistol might be handy to have!

» Posted By SallyT On December 14, 2012 @ 6:51 pm

Funk, if as they say, we had more guns the safer we will be were true with all the guns we have in the United States under this logic we should be the safest place on earth. Their logic is shot to the moon! Pun intended.
