Satire Declares Bankruptcy After Sarah Palin Endorses Donald Trump

Satire may still win the Oscars, if not the money, while Reality slips away, under dark, as Winter sets in and the Polls collect more Snow than Sweetgrass. 🙂

A Thanksgiving Tradition – 2015

I am thankful for much, and your posts that make me laugh, cry, think harder, wonder where time has gone since the inception of PlanetPov and how positive most often triumphs over negative.

Homeless Veterans, America’s Secret Disgrace

A really important issue that few address. Rachel Maddow appears to do that, but she is one voice.

When I lived in NYC many Veterans went homeless. When I lived in Vermont, it appeared many of the Vietnam Vets I met had homes but not much else (near Brattleboro).

What do we do about it? Can we change the government, or the VA?

I wish we could! I wish we would!

My contribution has been funds, not much, but what I can afford.

Supreme Court Arsonists: Pouring Gasoline on the Embers of the Civil War

See at the Bridge, AdLib. 🙂

» Posted By Parsifals On June 26, 2013 @ 3:00 am

Thanks, AbLib, for your reply.

The NY Times had an interesting piece today about Brasil & Turkey, the general outbreaks across other nations, and the fact that these two, and others have been “leaderless.” I think it was Cohen’s piece.

With some leadership like Martin L. King, or someone with gumption & brains, we might all be on the Streets again or crossing bridges to win back the rights within the bloody Constitution that SCOTUS seem to neglect reading or refreshing their memories on.

Even with my tired feet and advanced age I think I’d (I’ll) join them if it goes into force.

As for the President it is likely that he weighs & measures, measures & weighs his words and how they are received, especially and inasmuch as if he blinks, he is criticized. So…I’ll give him some more rope, but not too much more because rope can be dangerous with these folks.

» Posted By Parsifals On June 25, 2013 @ 7:26 pm

As always a good one, AdLib. One of the factors that always has me shaking my head (or worse) is the fact that the President, as an inter-racial man, referred to as “black” is unable or perhaps unwilling to address the issues that surround this nation’s growing racism, a racism that never died, but appears to be ready to explode in all our faces.

Thanks.

The Religious Right Assault on America – Education

I think we are there, that is more than ready to take the RR on before it is too late, if it isn’t already later than we realize.

When we permit Texas to dictate how textbooks are developed and use these as a guide for learning in this country, we are already in serious trouble.

I don’t want my grand-children to be under-educated to appease the far Right. I am also opposed to appeasement of to RR–something that existed for too long and has gone too far.

To have Rick Santorium reach the point he has is a telling sign that signals to me only “danger” signs.

» Posted By Parsifals On March 20, 2012 @ 12:39 pm

A good piece and a good read.

However, unless we turn over the reins to the RR, the system should remain in secular control. Have we abrogated our responsibility by permitting this to continue.

Like you I went to good schools, on the opposite coast, and in New York City. My class of ’61 were and are among the best and the brightest and few did not achieve a productive adulthood.

Religion was left to Wednesday PMs and only if one wished to participate. And that was discontinued after the 8th grade.

Now I don’t even stand for US events that include G-d, or religious language, nor will I give up my belief that we are not a Christian, exceptionalist country.

How did this happen?

Religion in Politics – Praying While Preying on the People

I always enjoy your pieces, and this is no exception. Living myself in the world of ignorance, elephants and yes, the church-going, my neighbours have not offered me any printable explanation for their votes or opinions that could or would take us to the next level–of sanity.

AmeRicka

Good one.

I am just reading Margaret Atwood’s “The Year of the Flood,” a very, very dystopic novel, which follows her earlier work.

And boy can anything happen to us, and Charlie.

The Bill Moyers Defecit

You may be taking this response more seriously than my intention. I didn’t take it personally at all but rather was defending the profession. 🙂

» Posted By Parsifals On June 2, 2011 @ 1:29 pm

I suppose I’ll take minor umbrage with your statement Sally that journalism is and has always been about power. Perhaps the owners of the media seek power and many control it, but the humble journalist often goes into the field to write, explore and educate the public and themselves.

As a writer myself, who gets paid occasionally, I have no power, but I may have some influence. My latest article was about fly fishing, not much power in the subject. However, I did get feed-back from one of our esteemed elders who makes some of the finest flies that, “your article might encourage our erstwhile anglers to get out there.”

Is that power? I suggest not. Was I informative and enthusiastic about the subject? Yes. Hence I both educated and influenced one fisherman.

Adlib, yes I did see Moyers interview Howard Zinn.

» Posted By Parsifals On June 2, 2011 @ 1:10 pm

Thanks, Adlib,

If you haven’t, you might try to catch or upload Moyer’s talk on Alternative Radio (this week EDT) honouring Howard Zinn. It was brilliant, and it took my breath away. I was in the car, and even after I arrived at my destination, I sat still to hear his conclusion(s).

He spoke candidly and directly to the fragility of the democracy.

The Lamestream Media’s Monster

My take is Palin dislikes, if not actively hates, the President because he won. Ms. Palin doesn’t take a loss well, or a criticism. This in itself can or should aid to her impending downfall.

No one can take on the grit of a Presidential run without splinters and many will get caught in her leather jacket as she is forced, yes forced, to answer questions.

My concern is our fellow countrywo(men, many of whom don’t remember what the US really stands for and what the constitution states, will vote for her shucks in ignorance. Americans by and large have lost their way.

With Obama we might find it. With Palin we’ll be doomed.

Bill Moyers was on the radio yesterday, a discussion entitled, Honouring Howard Zinn (Alternative Radio).

http://www.alternativeradio.org/programs/MOYB005.shtml

It was brilliant and while not optimistic, a solid on how “we the people” must come together to change the tides of a growing fascism.

The Point of No Return

A compelling argument that capital(ism) does corrupt. It certainly influenced Reagan, Heston, and perhaps now Moore. It influences those around me and those I can see from a distance with or without a telescope.

But it doesn’t make it easier to swallow or digest.

Time Travel

A fascinating read. I’ve thought about this, on and off,for years and talked about it with several physicists.

My view is “whatever we imagine, can be realized,” regardless of its seeming impossibility. Time travel might occur in parallel universes rather than one single time-space unit.

Pullman’s allusions in his trilogy (Dark Materials) might hold a good fictional clue worthy of bringing into fruition.

Thanks for the time to read this. 🙂

Huffington Post: The Not-So-Sweet Smell of Success

None I am aware of, but I have been reading less and enjoying HP as much as vinegar. I got the poll from an Alter Net junkie.

» Posted By Parsifals On April 22, 2011 @ 2:03 pm

It was or rather is not scientific.

» Posted By Parsifals On April 22, 2011 @ 1:26 pm

While members of POV are writing articles about the nature of Huffington Post it appears the majority of its readers or those aware of the blog still consider Ms. AH a progressive.

See Alternet’s poll and the results.

This information should be more widely circulated and promoted to those unfamiliar, unaware or unconscious of the implications and facts this series has revealed.
