Not my rhythm I’m afraid. » Posted By Kalima On June 4, 2013 @ 1:54 am You don’t know what you’ve been missing KT. I stayed with her in London every time she was there to perform at Ronnie Scott’s Club, she turned me on to jazz when I was just 15. A great and talented artist and a wonderful human being. I moved around a lot and then when we came to Tokyo, I lost contact with her. She is in her 80’s now. » Posted By Kalima On June 3, 2013 @ 5:12 pm The Temptations – I wish it would rain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-es4Q8AJaU Listen to pouring Rain -José Feliciano https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afCB3wlgtWA Otis Redding – Knock On Wood feat. » Posted By Kalima On June 1, 2013 @ 5:21 pm Koch Funded or Founded Institutions/Policy Centers You have done an excellent job of exposing these bloodsuckers Sue, now I hope that everyone who has a chance to read this series will pass it on. » Posted By Kalima On June 1, 2013 @ 2:41 am Terrific series Sue and a job well done. It’s hard to imagine a more self-absorbed and utterly selfish family sitting in their ivory towers throwing their garbage and distain on to the ordinary citizens below, but these creeps take some beating. That they have so much money doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t bring either happiness or good health, but the way they made it off the backs of ordinary people, and the way they use it to influence the government in a democracy, bothers me a lot. This is fascism, no doubt about it. It should be illegal in every country if they would only enforce exiting laws. They say that some people are too big to fail but I don’t believe it. Just look at Rupert Murdoch as an example. No one is infallible, not even leaders and governments if enough people get angry about the way they are being treated, or how the leaders steal their freedom and their hard earned money as was so obvious in the ME. If enough people knew how these amoebas operated against their interests just to gain even more money and power, I’m sure that there would be millions more Americans becoming angry and pissed off. The Citizens United ruling was an abomination and I have to wonder just how many politicians and judges, some very high up, have been bought off by these leeches. Too big to fail, I don’t think so. All it takes is a few cracks and weakened pressure points in a wall to bring it down. Your posts have turned over the rock and I commend your effort. Now I can only hope that many more people will have the chance to read them and learn something. Well done Sue. Now excuse me while I take a long shower to take away this awful Koch stink. » Posted By Kalima On May 30, 2013 @ 3:19 pm Done Sue. » Posted By Kalima On May 28, 2013 @ 2:11 am I didn’t get your email Sue, if you ever need to get to me directly, replace the word “admin” with “kalima” at the same address. Thanks, I’ll read it again in my morning and laugh some more. Good night from Tokyo. Now I’ll spend the night dreaming about “Hot Cross Bums” and grumpy old men. 😯 » Posted By Kalima On May 20, 2013 @ 7:34 am The Republican Guide to Whose Deaths Matter and Whose Don’t You have painted a direct and honest picture about the GOP party, spot on article AdLib. Anyone waiting for the much hyped Republican transformation of it’s image has to look no further than their gun control vote, their constant support of the wacky NRA and their supporters, their continued obstruction of bills meant to improve the lives of ordinary Americans, like the ACA. Their goals of making abortion illegal throughout the land, and now their attack on something they gave the false impression of being in agreement with; immigration reform. Lindy Graham and McCain are still looking up from their feeding bags to snarl with their yellowing teeth about Benghazi, and yet seem quite content with the deaths of so many children and adults from guns. How these hypocrites can show their faces in public is beyond me. Shame on the few Republicans who wanted to vote yes but were afraid of losing their cushy, overpaid jobs in politics. I wonder what it’s like to go through life without a conscience, and I’m glad that I’ll never have to find out. This is not the way most Christians behave. I can identify strongly with this lack of compassion they show because it is happening again with the Conservatives in the U.K. and the atrocious way wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan were treated when they returned home. Or the fact that more than one million children go to bed hungry each night and it doesn’t move them at all. Concerns about the deficit is just a smoke screen as they plan to take from the poor, the children and the elderly to give to the rich. They don’t care what state they leave the economy in when they are defeated because to them it’s just a game of winning more for those who already have more than enough. The media reporting that they are making efforts to improve their image is pure fiction, and more to the point, outright lies. If I, living so far away can see this, why then can’t more Americans see it too. They only way to stop them is to vote them out of office. Personally, I can’t wait for the next GE in the U.K. in 2015, but feel sorry for the next lot that will have to put the country back together again as with every aftermath of a Tory government. “Stick that austerity where the sun doesn’t shine” should be a popular song around the world right now. Oh wait, I think it already is. » Posted By Kalima On May 8, 2013 @ 2:32 am Bikini Atoll – A Paradise No Longer “We must never let this to happen again. Never”. On this KT, we agree 200%. Yes I’m sensitive about my country’s past, most of us are, and our legacy is to still be one of the most hated nations on earth, and the hate is something I have experienced personally as a child and then as an adult, and it’s crushing. As you say, “Never again”. » Posted By Kalima On April 26, 2013 @ 7:05 pm KT, I don’t dispute who started the war or what terrible things the Japanese Imperial Army did in other countries, especially in China, I just think there is a big difference in having nuclear weapons and deciding to use them on sleeping women, children, the elderly and disabled. I think it was your Ambassador to Japan who apologised first at a ceremony marking the dropping of the bomb in Hiroshima. It is something we will never agree on, but I think it was wrong and always have. There is never a good enough reason to deliberately decide to eliminate so many people at any time now or then. I was born in a country that is still apologising for what the Nazis did to millions of innocent people during the war, and the guilt is something that never goes away. » Posted By Kalima On April 26, 2013 @ 6:19 pm Thanks for this article Sue, it’s a subject very close to my heart for decades. I wonder how many Americans are aware that the majority of the 144,000 killed in Hiroshima and the 77,000 in Nagasaki on those days in August who died on impact, were women, children and the elderly because the men were away at war. Then those who died in agony during the next few days, the next few weeks, the next few months and the following years. Those who had dozen of surgeries during their lifetime, and those so deformed that they lived their lives holed up in their homes without mirrors afraid to lead normal lives because nothing about their experience and the extent of their injuries was normal. Also the thousands who died of cancer as a direct result of the radiation fallout. Whether it was necessary to kill so many innocent people to stop the war is disputable as far as I’m concerned, but apologies for the destruction are way overdue in the same way that Japan must face their wartime legacy, America should do the same. Those were people, not “yellow skinned devils”as I once read somewhere in an account of how people felt about the dropping of the first A-Bombs on Japan. It should be a lesson that it can never be allowed to happen anywhere again. All countries should disarm and dispose of their stockpiles of nuclear weapons. Future generations shouldn’t have to live in constant fear of this manmade threat, there is more than enough to be afraid of as it is. I have always felt strongly about this, even before I met my husband and later moved to Japan. Now after the Fukushima ongoing crisis and the probability that many stalled reactors could be starting up again, the thought of nuclear energy makes me shake from head to toe, but with this RW government now in power, thoughts of clean, renewable energy and peace of mind, seem to be fading fast. When will we humans ever learn? » Posted By Kalima On April 26, 2013 @ 4:33 pm Republicans Love America, They Just Hate Its Principles It’s unfortunate that they don’t choke on their own limitless hypocrisy, but when have they ever admitted that they were wrong about anything? It’s not just the U.S. AdLib, since the Tories have been in power, dozens of politicians have had to resign because of their overt, loud mouthed racism. It’s a shame those in the GOP aren’t forced to resign, but of course the GOP rarely reprimand one of their own. Perhaps it’s because they share the same views behind closed doors. Then I read a story like this and have to question the sanity of crackpots like this guy thinking he’s European. At least the BBC coverage was accurate without the speculation of those reporting that was so annoying on CNN. You have every reason to be proud of the law enforcement agencies in your country, they did a tireless and quite amazing job to bring a dangerous situation to an end. Then to have the wimpy Repubs start to complain about reading him his rights, and even more disgusting, saying he should be sent to Gitmo, was almost as shameful as their votes on the gun control bill. They feel no shame though because they have no idea what it is. Given half a chance these nutjobs like McCain, his friend Miss Lindy and King would love to see the suspect water boarded, we all know how well that worked out the last time. In London after the Tube bombings in 2005, when the city’s extensive surveillance cameras led to identification of four suspects within five days of the attacks, I remember thinking that this was really quick too, and yet so many people complain about their loss of privacy. Personally I don’t mind if it leads to safer streets and quick arrests after crimes are committed. I would rather be safer than worry about being caught on video picking my nose or something. Hubby and I applauded when it was over. » Posted By Kalima On April 20, 2013 @ 6:12 pm Great teamwork by all agencies involved, and peace of mind for the people of Boston. This might sound odd to American ears, but since the attacks in Boston, I’ve been hoping and also thinking that this was a domestic terrorist act. The reason is that I believe that the attention to the extreme groups operating within your own borders are tempered because of free speech which I believe has its limits. The right to bear arms which in this day and age seems ridiculous to someone who has lived in three countries where owning a firearm is forbidden by law. The holding back because of infringement of rights is normal, but knowing that a group is made up of nutters and letting them practice their delusional belief is a danger to everyone who lives in America. Where is the balance and where does it start and end? I was born and raised in a country with a history. A history no one will let us forget, not even here. We bow to whatever Israel wants because we are ashamed of our past and don’t want to be accused of anti-Semitism. We fight extremist groups, neo-nazi groups to try to get away from the image and the past but no one seems prepared to give us a chance. To many, we are all Nazis. Today in MB, I posted two stories about how American Muslims are feeling at this moment after the attacks, and end with an ignorant Fox hothead who had to rant and insult right after the attacks. Let’s kill them all’: Fox News guest Erik Rush provokes furious reaction with Boston bombing Twitter rants Rush appeared to imply in a tweet that the culprit was from Saudi Arabia » Posted By Kalima On April 18, 2013 @ 6:08 am BREAKING NEWS: Explosions at Finish Line of Boston Marathon This was shocking news to find in the morning here, and my heart, sympathy and condolences go out to the victims and their families, and all those injured in this senseless act of terror whether domestic or foreign. I have never understood the reasoning behind killing and maiming innocent people in the name of any cause. There is no cause that would ever be worthy of this kind of destruction. Fighting for a cause or against a government should never be violent because it loses whatever meaning it was trying to make. Terrorism is a coward’s way out. They kill people they don’t know and have never met to make a point in their twisted minds, but all they do is weaken their stand on any issue they think they are fighting for. My hope is that these maniacs are found as soon as possible and made to pay. Who would do this at a sporting event, it is just too awful and mind boggling to even contemplate. My thoughts are with the people of Boston and all those affected by this tragedy of pure madness. I’ve been watching on CNN but the repetition is just driving me nuts. » Posted By Kalima On April 15, 2013 @ 7:34 pm Weekend Music Thread- Springtime and Change of Seasons Chaplin – Limelight – The Spring Song https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yIverh3y7GU Tracy Chapman~Spring
