Nominating and electing a 77 year old man who will be 81 years old when it's time for re-election is not long term thinking. In 2024, Republicans will have the anti-incumbent momentum and likely, a younger and more energetic candidate. As bad as things are now, they could be even worse under a Repub (Don Jr. or Ivanka?) in 2025.

I dream of a state in which all voices are heard, not just those of the rich, powerful and connected. This looks more like the last stage of a coup. Consolidating power in himself by stacking the courts as his puppets, discrediting belief in the truth by attacking the press as fake and rigging elections with voter suppression. Spreading propaganda and lies while facilitating Russian-aided disinformation on social media. Trying to shut down the postal service which means shutting down voting by mail. Lastly, raising a fascist, well armed militia to stand against his political enemies. The threat to our democracy couldn't be more urgent.

Racism is indeed a defining feature of the American experience. As they say in the world of programming, “it’s not a bug; it’s a feature.” This defining feature propagates the very idea that the right to vote is the sole provenance of those who see themselves as having the right of ignoring the rights of those they see as racially different and thus inferior.

So when the reporter asked Pence the question, “is it harder for black Americans to make in this country?” his rambling answer tells us what we already know. He is far too afraid to admit the truth, Yes, it is harder for African-Americans to make it in this country.
