Many brave Democrats lost their seats in 2010 for voting for the ACA but in doing so, they saved and helped millions of Americans, past, present and future. What they did was noble and profound, they changed history for the better. Clearly, Manchin and Sinema are not cut from the same cloth but perhaps they can be leveraged to do the right thing and become reluctant heroes in the end despite themselves.
A STUDY IN CONTRASTS
President T.T. Trump (Twitter Teleprompter Trump) visited El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, today but apparently could not make a big speech in an open venue for fear of being booed.
In Dayton, his staff made him...
The lesson from 2016 should be, nominate someone who is inspiring to voters and brings with them too little baggage to be buried under. The media types who are Republicans and lean to the center/right or right, are more preoccupied with filling the Dem nomination slot with someone reflecting their more conservative, establishment sensibilities. That is very different from picking the candidate most likely to beat Trump and best bring change to the country.
To offer an island of sanity, especially when Trump starts flinging his poo to respond to questions, PlanetPOV is hosting a live chat during the debate. All members are invited to join our community watch party and share live takes on the debate. Drinking games are optional.
Trump's madman strategy to dominate debates at any cost actually opened up a huge vulnerability that Biden could exploit in the next debates. It's like in boxing, you may come in with a game plan but during the fight, if you see that your opponent keeps opening up himself to an uppercut, take advantage of it and throw an uppercut.
Nominating and electing a 77 year old man who will be 81 years old when it's time for re-election is not long term thinking. In 2024, Republicans will have the anti-incumbent momentum and likely, a younger and more energetic candidate. As bad as things are now, they could be even worse under a Repub (Don Jr. or Ivanka?) in 2025.
There is one person who could gum up the works of Trump's dictatorship-in-process. And he's not even in elected office. Yet. Joe Biden has said that this election is a battle for the very soul of America. So right now would be a good time for Biden to really flex on this, step up and fire a loud warning shot across the bow of Trump's henchmen. The Rule of Law is coming back in 2021...and it could be coming for them.
Before you brush this topic off as irrelevant, you might want to consider how often it comes back into political discussions along with the lie that it was a war resolution rather than a peace resolution.
There is less to worry about in the election and more to worry about in the aftermath than has ever been the case in an election in America (even on the brink of the Civil War!). Perhaps these worries won't turn out to have been justified, I hope to be wrong about this. But did you ever think that in America, the approach of an election would require the boarding up of windows and the FBI to be on high alert?
Trump instructed his aides to always have Diamond and Silk wear name tags whenever they're around him. "The downside in having black running mates to prove you're not racist is having to tell them apart," Trump nodded earnestly.
