I don’t give Unions a pass any more than anyone else, when their good they are great when they are corrupt(as in closed shops) they are bad. Many Americans see union workers as the privileged class, try to get a job as a tradesmen when the union has stopped accepting new members or your uncle is on a committee. This is the age of the consumer, every citizen should be treated equal but this is far from true and in bad economic times the weak are raped of their dignity. I hear loads of people standing up for WI Unions and I’m one but again this is so far to the left of “mainstream” that see them as just another class system. At US Robotics/3Com this was the case where if orders were up they would hire the temps who by now had 12 months experience on the line at starting wages and reintroduce the probationary period from the USR’s perspective then ManPower would get $4500 kick back. The net result was a full time employee that had a 15 month probationary period before qualifying for benefits package.
