Their inaction on a Jobs bill, immigration reform and obstruction against a minimum wage increase, stays the same. Their obsession in taking away a woman’s right to choose, and their hate of healthcare for millions remains the same. The Dems need to get a strong and united message out there, and they need to do it soon. In some states the Gerrymandering is being reversed, and if not there is the next precinct and the one after that where people need to vote or be registered to vote. Yes I know about the Middle Ages and the Feudal System, but in today’s world there is one great difference, the people are much more educated and can actually protest to change things. They can also vote out the puppet politicians, and that is what they need to do in droves in any elections, especially the local ones. Take care. » Posted By Kalima On September 1, 2014 @ 10:16 pm A few months after launching The Planet we were taking about the importance of education, and I remember saying that if every child had access to a good education, and a computer to grow their knowledge of the world and it’s people around them, there would be a greater understanding of our differences and similarities that could lead to less conflict and eventually even peace among nations. There is no such thing as a bad country, there are only bad leaders. We need to understand the difference, and that the majority of people around the world, are good people. It’s ignorance and the fear that ignorance brings that leads to unnecessary aggression and wars. The more we know about the world and the people who populate it, the less likely we are to want to harm them or kill them. Children are our future, we need to give them every opportunity to learn, and in turn do what is right and just. The greedy will always be there to steal from us, but there are more of us than there are of them. Together we stand. Divided we fall. You can find it under categories on the far right of your screen. At that time there were quite a few members who suggested causes and things that could be done to change things in Washington, the problem was that after a time people were just not that committed because they led busy lives, or lost interest because it wasn’t moving fast enough. We can’t demand that all of our members should become involved in something, but we can sign and start petitions to try to make that change. I suggested Avaaz for instance because they have over 38 million members all over the globe, and therefore their efforts are far reaching and to the highest levels in government. You can start petitions there too. You can suggest it on Vox and continue to write articles about issues that you are passionate about to see how many people have the time it takes to become involved. I can’t give you much advice on what to do to change things in your own country, I don’t live there, except to say that people who are aware of what is really going on should try to inform others they meet, and tell that before they vote, research the history of the people they are voting for to see what issues are important to them. As for world issues, we can write and petition leaders of countries to do the right thing about injustice happening in their own countries and other countries. In the last 8 years I can’t even count the number of petitions I have signed that were a success and changed the lives of so many people who were suffering. In most places you can start your own petitions too. There are many but the ones with the most power are Avaaz, Change.org, One (World Hunger)and Causes. To do something directly to help the Palestinians in Gaza, there are organisations already on the ground helping, like ANERA and Avaaz who use donations directly for the needs of the people at any given time. We can’t all roll up our sleeves and go to the many places around the world where people are are suffering, but we can continue to speak out against the injustice against our fellow human beings by passing on information, talking about it here or on other sites, contacting politicians and governments, and whenever possible, donating whatever we can to aid organisations who actually have people helping in those countries. It’s a rewarding feeling when months after you have signed something along with thousands or hundreds of thousands of other people from so many different countries around the world, you receive notification about the offending law that was causing suffering to millions, being struck down to improve important issues that have affected far too many for far too long. As I always say, every bit helps, and the worst thing we can do is to stop caring, to stop talking, or believing that we can’t make a difference.
