Huffington Post AKA It’s All Obama’s Fault: This Week’s Meme Obama Weak on Terror

Ad Lib…and everyone else too:

The confusion over the ‘Request Deletion’ thing was entirely mine, and the disruption was entirely my fault.

Apologies to all.

There is another hp article about the recent terror incident, by John Gambrell, which does not blame Obama. Rather, it asks us to feel sorry for Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, telling us how lonely and depressed and confused he has apparently been.

Hello? Millions of people are lonely and depressed and confused; they do not, however, pack explosives into their trousers and set out to blow up 300 people in mid-air.

The GOP is Poised for Possible Gains in 2010

One thing Gingrich does understand is the power of language. Of using just the right word at just the right time in just the right context.

Rashomon 4: Ten views of Christmas Day airplane terror

I am hoping you will be out by New Year’s Eve. I recall many posts of yours about what you have gone through and not in any of them did you seem to be complaining, but only keeping us informed.

Bravo.

KQ: just saw your reply about Drudge. (Left you one about 18 hours ago (before I crashed) saying I hope you bust out of that hospital soon, and for good.)

Where did Drudge come from, anyway, and how long has he been doing…what he does?

HP’s headline “U.S Keeps Chasing Al Qaeda In Afghanistan While Latest Action Moves Through Nigeria, Yemen, London, Amsterdam” is disingenuous.

Afghanistan is more about subduing the Taliban than it is about chasing Al Qaeda. The President does not want the Taliban turning Afghanistan…or any large Middle East country, for that matter…into an Islamic State, which is the Taliban’s intention.

Indeed, the Main at HP right now has Adam Rose, the author of the article, saying this: “”An additional 30,000 troops are scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan, where some estimates peg the total number of Al Qaeda as low as 100.” This is so disingenuous he ought to be punished for writing it. He is throwng the 30000 number (of troops) up against the far lower number, 100, of Al Qaeda, to try and paint a picture of overkill on the part of the President. In other words, 30000 to go after 100.

And again, totally ignoring the Taliban as if it is no problem at all.

I hate dishonest writing and HP is becoming far too proficient at it.

My letter to the FDA today

I agree that that last is probably coming.
This past year we had many drunken driver fatalities, some young kids were run down and killed,, but I can’t recall any that were from someone lighting a ciggie in his car.

Over here the gov’t is now putting ghastly photos of lung disease and mouth cancer, on ciggie packs…and now they are experimenting with putting liver disease (and other alcohol-related illnesses) photos on the backs of wine bottles.

What an uproar there has been over that.

Nominations – The Planet’s Top Posts of 2009

Is there a place on this site that stores, by name, the articles people have written this year…or at least the most recent ones?

» Posted By abby4ever On December 29, 2009 @ 9:44 pm

Ask them, Pepe. And get back to us.

:]

» Posted By abby4ever On December 29, 2009 @ 9:19 pm

escribacat: it may be that some people, even great posters, are a wee bit shy about joining a new site…or simply hesitant because of having to get used to a brand new format. I think others really feel a deep sense of loyalty even to places like hp, some have been there since its inception. Doing reading on a new site is a good way to see whether you will like it or not, or just a way to see how things are done. It might seem implausible that the great posters would ever be shy or even slightly hesitant about something like this, but you never know. Some of the great ones are already here and they’d know what might hold someone back.

Btw, thanks for the kind words about my article. It’s the first one I’ve done here, so it’s pretty raw…

(And to the person who inserted the image (I didn’t have one) and split the text for me (I screwed up the ‘More’ thing… AND the bold text thing…), my deepest thanks.)

Sorry to hear you are back in hospital, KQ, and here’s hoping you bust out of that place soon…and for good.

I think the multimedia idea is a good one. Wish I could draw cartoons, I’d love to do some political ones.

But I can’t. I can’t draw at all!

🙁

Rats.

Well what category are you going to put it in?

» Posted By abby4ever On December 27, 2009 @ 8:26 pm

It will have to be both, emerald, sorry I forgot to say which category. It is, in essence, political satire. Which is not quite the same as the Political Commentary category, is it? I think it could even go under Social Observation. Help! I better do this again:

I hereby nominate Ad Lib’s “Twas The Night Before Christmas–A Parody” for categories (a), (b) and (d).

» Posted By abby4ever On December 27, 2009 @ 7:28 pm

Don’t know if it’s even ok for me to nominate anyone or anything. I’ve only been here about a week, so I’ve only seen about a week’s worth of articles.

But on the off chance that it is ok, I’d like to nominate AdLib’s “Twas The Night Before Christmas

Jolted back to reality

“Is it too soon to be jolted back to reality?”

‘Morning, Nellie. A thoughtful article. I think just the fact that a terror attack was attempted should jolt us back to reality. And this one does show that terror can happen on anyone’s watch, not just GWB’s but Obama’s too.

OT: A joyous Christmas holiday to you and yours…rather late. I tried to get by here sooner to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas, but it was non-stop company, non-stop cooking, non-stop everything! I still look (and feel) like something the cat dragged in, I’ve never had such an exhausting Christmas…but what fun it was!

Hope everyone else’s was all they hoped it would be.

The Best Christmas Gift

I am truly sorry about Sherri and I am hoping she will come out of her coma and be well again.

Not Even on Christmas…

I doubt he will ever change, Scher, I’ve seen this type before. From the cradle to the grave…

Morning Edition and Crumpet the Elf

Yes, and thank you. I feel like starting a little Christmas thread, where people can just unload about the stress of Christmas…or celebrate a stress-free Christmas…or something inbetween.

Nothing fancy.

(Has anyone ever tried to giftwrap Wellingtons? I mean where you don’t have the box. If not, don’t.)

But maybe that sort of thing should be on or at Speaker’s Corner?

Please inform.

» Posted By abby4ever On December 24, 2009 @ 10:06 pm

You can call me abs if you want, some of my friends at uni do. But not because of NCIS.

(Forgive my ignorance but what is NCIS?)

» Posted By abby4ever On December 24, 2009 @ 9:24 pm

Hi boomer! Merry Christmas. Where do I find Speaker’s Corner, is it on Dashboard?

» Posted By abby4ever On December 24, 2009 @ 9:09 pm

Is there an open thread here at Planet where we can post just anything, rather than use someone’s article, I mean use their reply space (which isn’t at all the thing!)?

» Posted By abby4ever On December 24, 2009 @ 8:49 pm

A Loving Heart

Hi peace. Are you just now joining Planet or have you been here off and on? I just got here two days ago.

» Posted By abby4ever On December 24, 2009 @ 10:17 pm

peacekitten: another great article. Just with regard to your words about treatment of animals, I will just quote from my bio at hp if that’s ok:

“The abuse of a harmless thing is the essence of sin.”
(A. W. Tozer (1897-1963)

“The question is not: can they reason? Nor: can they talk? But: can they suffer?”
(Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832)

I can’t really add much to the above, for me it says it all.

Twas The Night Before Christmas – A Parody

AdLib: I just cracked up reading your poem, it really is spectacular.

Congrats.

And a joyous Christmas and New Year to you and yours.

Help Desk

Thanks! Yes, that works…but the spacing of the quotes isn’t what I’d like, they are all clumped together in a single paragraph. Still, at least they’re there.

:]

» Posted By abby4ever On January 6, 2010 @ 12:13 am

Help! How do you get quotations into your profile in the Member Directory? I tried to edit them in, putting them in the biographical space in the profile, as we could do at Huffpo, but they aren’t showing under my name when my Planet profile page comes up…and nowhere else either. Where do you paste them in?

» Posted By abby4ever On January 5, 2010 @ 11:19 pm

Thanks so much.

» Posted By abby4ever On January 5, 2010 @ 7:24 am

Is there a way to REPLACE an image you have put in a post? Exchange it for a different one, I mean. I tried yesterday but ended up with TWO images, one under the other.

» Posted By abby4ever On January 5, 2010 @ 4:54 am

Nellie or KQ or Adlib: in my profile where you list my published articles, and at the bottom, you will see this one: HP POSTS POSITIVE MAIN: REFORM OR RUSE? (It actually is in caps as just presented, it was a title.) It leads nowhere except to ‘Page Not Found’. As I recall, when I was starting it, I hit ‘Publish’ by mistake, I meant to hit ‘Preview’. (I even got an email message seconds later about this fabulous ‘article’, saying that it had just been published…ha!) I never finished it, because it was pure crap; so all there is, is this title sitting there in my profile, leading to nowhere. Could you trash it please?

Thanks.
