Time Out for O/T – Vol. 16

Haha 🙂 Well, then I should try to be more social here then. <3

:hugs: <3 How have you been?

Your definition of “tough love” is much more fitting than the one that is used by the right. They see tough love as leaving the less fortunate to suffer. It would seem your definition implies a desire to educate rather than abandon.

I was talking to a friend this evening, and I mentioned this place. I also mentioned that I do miss it. I came here to see it. I’ve not been by because somewhere between shame at being a stranger and letting life get in the way lies the truth of my absence. I hope you are all well. <3 I think about you all more than you may know. I'm easy to find via Facebook.

:::warmest hugs:::

I have to admit that the idea of their being something of a co-dependence is a fair summation of the matter. I know I’m exceptionally guilty of this. I have done it all the time. I prefer to rise above it, but I become so passionate that I forget the reason for what I do.

May True Justice Be Done

I had not seen that operation rescue article. Thank you so much for posting it!

As for the judge’s reprimand I have been trying to find someone who has interviewed the other party. So, if you should happen across it please let me know. 🙂

Thank you again.

The idea of double-jeopardy makes it unlikely that there will be any way for Roeder to stand trial a second time. The family of Doctor Tiller could file a wrongful death claim against Roeder, but he would never be able to pay an indemnity.

I am of the mind that the Tiller family should take a leaf out of the SPLC‘s book and file a claim against Operation Rescue.

I live in Wichita, and I will be covering this story with as much attention as I can. I’m currently looking into the background of Judge Wilbert. I’m interested to know what kind of a judge he is and what his views are. That will tell me a good deal about the way this trial is likely to proceed.

Things officially begin tomorrow. I’m going to make every effort to be at the county courthouse. Reporters are being made to view the trial in another room. So, I am unsure how this will effect things for me.

Jury selection will be one of the things that starts tomorrow. I’m going to be very interested in what happens.

I can also tell you that it will be very easy to find pro-life jurors in Wichita. There’s no shortage of them here. That is one reason I’m paying close attention to this trial.

I’ve been trying to find out what the Judge Wilbert’s stance is on abortion. Honestly, I cannot imagine this trial proceeding with the true impartiality for which one would hope.

Vox Populi AfterChat – 1-08-10

I have a link to a similar list. 🙂 but… I promised no more links tonight. 😉 Hehe.

Jinx! 😉 Hehe. Night night.

One more thing and I’ll stop posting links. I promise! XD

I’d like to recommend this to anyone who missed it tonight on PBS.

David Corn and Kevin Drum on Bill Moyers Journal

You can watch the video and read the transcript here.

The subject is Wall Street’s close ties with Washington and other obstacles to financial reform. There’s even more reporting on the subject here too.

OMG! Now here’s something noteworthy!

Washington Times headline – Geithner called to explain AIG bailout secrecy

I believe Cher pointed out that a similar main was on HP this afternoon. What does that tell us? Hmmm?

It really says something when a website that’s largely looked upon as progressive is reporting the same story that a right wing paper is.

If I didn’t have such a sensitive gag reflex I’d compare the two articles. I’m sure David Brock would be very interested to find out if the two were basically identical!

N.J. Senate Denies Marriage Equality

I’m not certain about all the details regarding the correspondence Senator Lesniak has received, but based upon what he’s said it seems that the religious institutions that have contacted Lesniak feel that marriage is an issue that should be left completely to religion. Therefore, a state dictating who a church cannot officially marry is the same as saying who a church can officially marry rather than according to the tenets of their faith. Thus, it violates the separation of church and state.

I’ve got emails from a bunch of you. I’m sorry I’ve not responded as yet. 🙁 I’ll be writing you back tonight though. 🙂 Please forgive my absence. I’ve been spending a little time with my sweetie since she’s been home from work the past few days.

Okies. I’ll read them over. I was just offering my two cents in regards to the article itself. Perhaps I misread it in some way. 😐 If so I apologize.

It was a good article certainly makes some good points. 🙂

Obama and The Google

NPR has given more voices to the right in recent years. This is true. I still listen to them in the evenings, and what I hear there is usually even-handed. Hehe.

I’ve seen the Politico article too. It was concerning to me not only for the obvious reasons but also because it indicates that the right wing has become so accepted in the mainstream. 😐

When I listen to NPR I’m not exposed to Liasson or Williams very much, and that is by design. Sadly, it’s hard to escape right wing opinion entirely. Even on PBS’ News Hour I see right wing sorts being asked for their opinion more often than I would like. In the interest of not appearing to be “liberal” the MSM seems to keep moving more and more to the right and thus become more conservative.

» Posted By Scheherazade On January 3, 2010 @ 5:44 pm

Wow Cher, you’ve put a ton of work into this! You’ve done an awesome job! Kudos! 🙂

It’s funny you should mention Google News because it’s something I consult a few dozen times a day. I also check the Associated Press website, and Routers several times a day too. 🙂 It helps give me a feel for how the news is being presented generally.

I find I feel less overwhelmed by the negative op-ed articles on FDL and Salon when I look at other news sources first.

It seems that PBS, NPR, BBC, and the New York Times tend to be the most accurate and don’t have much of an axe to grind. So that is encouraging. 🙂

The thing I pay careful attention to is whether sound bites and talking points that are developed on right wing radio or on FOX News get echoed in other places. Media Matters is good about keeping an eye on that too. 😉

New Year’s Day Ushers in Marriage Equality

One of the five states that has accept marriage equality is my actual birthplace. Go rainbow Iowa! 😉 Hehe

» Posted By Scheherazade On January 1, 2010 @ 3:15 pm

If you live within the state it would be recognized, but if you moved to a state where it was not recognized the insurance company would not have to do so. As long as you are within that state all laws apply at the local level, but they don’t apply at the federal level. The reason an insurance company from another state would have to recognize the marriage is because they would have to comply with local laws in order to offer coverage within that state. Also the kind of insurance has an effect due to federal regulations and such.

There are exceptions and grey areas of course. DOMA has really made a mess of things.
