My daughter had only a 5 min wait and the person on the other end was very helpful and mailed the forms. I believe I read that over 19,000 of those forms have been returned already. As I spouted off last night, there is a lot of money being spent on local and state elections by the Tea Party and Kochs. You have to pay attention. They do pick off the low fruit when they can. Of course, they replace the low fruit pickings with rotten fruits! I am so upset with Washington State and the GMO Labeling not passing. And that was big corporate money coming into the state! It was doing really good in the polls but there was a onslaught of corporate-financed advertising since Sept when labeling was ahead by 45% percentage points. A consortium that includes General Mills, Nestle USA, PepsiCo, Monsanto,, DuPont and other corporate giants, were key contributors to the roughly $22 million raised to campaign against the bill, much of that spent by November 5. That far outstrips the roughly $7.9 million raised by supporters of the labeling initiative, according to the Commission. It was so frustrating for me to hear those ads that this would hurt the farmers. Being the daughter of a farmer, I can tell you that labeling will not hurt the farmer unless that “farmer” is one of the industrial/corporate farms that are owned or leased by those companies listed above because they are the only farmers that also own the company processing the crop into product! A farmer gets the same price for grain in its raw form no matter what it is going to end up as. They get nothing more after if leaves their field. They get none of the profits of that box of cereal up on the grocery shelf. The price of that grain/crop is market driven. Those same companies drive down that price to where the small farmer can not compete!! It won’t add to the processing cost either. They will make it the same way they always have. It will only cost for the little needed in re- labeling and printing. And, these companies are already doing it in foreign markets because they have to!! They have to label pet food! So, it isn’t going to cost more there either. Of course they scared people that it would raise prices but bull! With their high profit margin, they have no need if they want to sell their product. They do not want to label their product because they do not want to disclose what is in it! That will cost them because people won’t buy their crap once they know what they are really eating! Sorry, but it burns me when they use the small farmer as the reason for their GREED! You stay strong, Kes, and keep up watching those local elections. Right now I have to go smash some Pepsi cans, throw out my Nestle Chocolate Chips, and slap a couple of Washingtonians. With all the work on our ancient water/sewer lines in the street running by our house, there was tons of rocks available. (We live on an ancient lake bed, lots of rocks!) So, I went and picked up rocks as the men were working, which several of the men were very nice about helping when they found a good one and putting it aside. I moved them to the side of our house. Then I placed them were I wanted them. Looked good until I realized I should have put that black stuff down so the grass wouldn’t grow up between them. Had to pick them back up again. Now I am putting down the black stuff and replacing the rocks. This is the fifth time I have moved those damn rocks! If they are successful in shutting down the government to get their way, will they stop there? Okay, we are not talking about sane, informed, rational people here. Just like those that created and gained following in the Confederacy, they are for destroying and breaking the country to get things their way. Today, with them, the Civil War wasn’t about slavery, it was about states getting their independence from a government that got too big and controlling. Go back to the Revolution and they call themselves the Tea Party because that was about taxes and independence from the King’s control. These are people that didn’t study in school or were home schooled. Those of us that did study and even liked history know that the original Tea Party (racist even then because they had to dress up like those “heathen” Indians to pull it off) were actually the rich Northern proto-industrialists and merchants (John Hancock’s tea even costed more at the time) plus Southern plantation owners’ struggle against British mercantilism. They don’t look to see that back then the working class males still had to wait 60 years for the right to vote, Blacks almost 90 to be “emancipated” and women close to 150 years. But, the middle class colonist believed that these rich and powerful men were looking out for them. No they weren’t. They were looking to get control of pricing, power, lower taxes on themselves only, and making more money for themselves to stay the riches and powerful in the country. The Civil War was on the same basis. These people that follow haven’t changed all that much, I am afraid. And, the rest are just concerned about their new gadgets and getting them cheap and thinking nothing like that could happen again. I’m not so sure, however, damage will be done. We both took meds that made it difficult to sleep at times. So, together he and I would comment back and forth on topics and sometimes, many times, just for fun. We shared personal information on our illnesses and troubles with getting Social Security coverage. He once told me that it was because of me that he kept fighting to get it because I had shared with him that it took me 2 years to succeed but I finally did. That made me feel so good that he thought to tell me that I had helped him and he wanted me to know he thanked me for the encouragement. We had a private line in town but we also had a farm that we went to on weekends and that had a party line with 2 other parties. I always forgot and picked up when I shouldn’t and got yelled at for staying on too long!

There were nights that we laughed so hard that we ended our nights here thanking each other for ending our days with laughter. But, there were times that he and I disagreed on issues and those could be equally challenging. However, there were also times that we changed each others minds or we just chose to disagree but never to stop sharing.
I have missed him and will miss him. My lonely nights have been missing finding him here waiting to share the events of the day or just to share a joke or two. He has gone on but the memories remain with me. I am fortunate to have known him and to have the rewards of those nights of just us on here.
I think I will focus on the laughter. Even with tears rolling down my cheeks, I still can smile because I remember when.
Rest my friend and I hope you knew how much I was going to miss you.
