(I attended my first open house at my daughter’s soon to be high school) The principal made a big deal of getting the kids to take three years of language to make them competitive. Then it turns out the languages offered are Spanish and French. Now, I suppose a fair bit of international business is conducted in Spanish. But I would contend that a kid that could speak Chinese would definitely have the edge over kids who have French. You imply that the Health Insurance contributions to Obama is proof of Obama’s having been bought off. Just as easily, one can follow this reasoning: The Health Insurance industry saw that Obama was going to win, saw no purpose in currying favor with the obvious loser, desired an open door to the incoming admin, and sent 75% of its contributions to Obama. This is proof of exactly, what? I asked, PROOF. As for taxing “Cadillac Plans”, the president has made a commitment to maintain this as a revenue neutral plan. Apparently the only revenue enhancement that is going to get past the Senate is this tax on high-end benefits tax. Logically one can say that Obama took all that money from the industry and screwed everybody, or one can say that Obama is looking to get a bill delivered past the Senate, and what we are getting is all we will get. I prefer to believe that the leader of my party is an honest yet pragmatic politician who is doing the best that he can.
