It can be very frustrating as I just experienced when I spent almost a day renewing my “Alien Registration Card”. Yes, I’m an alien and they will never let me forget that. Still, the people are nice and respectful, maybe more so than in the countries I had to leave behind. I have been to the U.S. twice in the 80’s and everything seemed so big over there, including the size of our Club sandwich. Our first trip was to Sausalito and San Francisco. Loved it. Connecticut was beautiful and we had talked of maybe one day moving there. After building our new house two years ago we are settled here again now with neighbours who care about us. I can try to sum it up in two words. Catholic Guilt. We develop it in childhood at some point, and as we grow older it becomes ingrained so we can never fully shake it off. We know what is right and what is wrong. What is just and unjust, and the Church had to change when the protests began to stop us from leaving. Wish it were as simple everywhere. The day will come when it’s accepted everywhere, well let’s say in almost every country that doesn’t hang you in public or imprison you with a death sentence. As to the homophobes, they will continue to exist, many of them privately questioning their own sexuality, and use their fearful God as an excuse to control those who need to hate.
