Election Day Thread – GOP SC Primary and Dem NV Caucus – 2-20-2016

Hello agrippa,

Well I’m relieved that your distaste of the candidates won’t stop you from voting. The President had to grow into foreign policy as well as handling a financial crisis, and I believe he kept a cool head and made the right decisions for America. As long as the GOP don’t take the WH, I think the next Democrat in the Oval Office would be well advised to follow his lead in diplomacy. It works.

As for the many domestic problems caused by GOP governors and crazy legislators, it is up to the American people to vote them out of office.

I’m at the stage now where I just can’t stomach watching any of the repub candidates speak. Reading about them is bad enough. Watching them would be torture. Never have been partial to ignorance, bulging eyes, frothy mouths, lies and total gibberish.

Less than 9 months to go, and I’m feeling sorry for anyone who is not voting for a GOP candidate being accosted by a barrage of nonsense daily from your msm. May the Force be with you!

One more thought. If you are not sure about Sanders, how can you question his knowledge, wisdom and integrity?

» Posted By Kalima On February 22, 2016 @ 12:22 am

Hello, agrippa.

Although I understand the need for multi party choices, it won’t happen any time soon. Look at what happens in places like Europe and the U.K. where other parties either get 1% of the votes, or fascist, racist parties like the French far right National Front and Golden Dawn in Greece, actually win seats in the government. You have enough nutcase voters as it is, and those votes would compromise the chance of someone who actually gives a shit from being elected.

You say that you have “little respect for their knowledge, wisdom or integrity”. That’s easy enough because GOP candidates have none, but what about the two Democrats? Why do you believe that Sanders has no knowledge, wisdom or integrity? Do you know of his history in politics and what he stands for?

Being as we have both Sanders and Clinton supporters here, I’m sure they would like to know your reasons.

As for foreign policy I would be more worried about any of the GOP being elected, because if they get the WH, you can kiss foreign policy goodbye. There will be no diplomacy there, and the threat of bombing Iran, sending thousands of young Americans to fight in Syria and Iraq would certainly become a reality.

There would be millions more poor people as benefits dry up. Health care would be stolen from millions. Women would be treated like cattle taking away their right to choose what to do with their own bodies. Black Americans and their rights would be trashed. So would your SS and Medicare. I could go on but am sure that you know the risks of a Republican WH, after all, George Bush was elected twice and ruined America’s reputation and standing in the world.

I wish I could fly, but I have to take a plane. I wish I could wave a magic wand and heal the wounds of the world, but I can’t and have to rely on the person who I feel will do the least damage and try to make meaningful changes.

You are of course welcome to your opinion, but with so much at stake at home and abroad, I would concentrate on making sure that no republican sits in the Oval Office again for many years to come. Of course with a GOP WH, the rich would thrive and grow like the fungus they are, infecting and taking out all that is good and decent about your country. With many thanks to President Obama for all the changes he was able to make.

Win or lose, Bernie Sanders ends up with roughly the same number of delegates as Clinton, down just a few. Not a loss at all for Bernie. Not such a great win for Clinton either.

Jesus Returns, Condemns Trump Who Brands Him An “Anti-Christian Zombie!”

Just for the record, is there anyone left who hasn’t been insulted by Dump?

So he’s a Christian, eh?

There is a pattern in the behaviour pointed out in these articles, and it’s all about the green stuff. He’s just another greedy, fat slob.

GOP Will Help Dems Retake Senate By Putting Party Before Country and Constitution

They haven’t yet learned to look both ways before they cross the street. I don’t think they ever will.

There are many nasty lying politicians in this world, but I have never seen any that quite reach the toxic level of the U.S. Repubs. RIP GOP!

You need to turn that image into a Planetpov URL for it to show up. Media. Add New. Upload file. Media Library. Click on the image and on the right of your screen you will see the Planetpov URL. Copy that. Go to a comment box and click on “add image”. Paste that url into the box and it shows the image in the comment when you reload the page.

How far do you get?

» Posted By Kalima On February 15, 2016 @ 8:48 pm

You go to Media in your Dashboard, and click on Add New. Upload the file into Media Library, click on the photo and copy the URL, then click on “add an image” under the comment. There will be a drop down box. Copy the URL into that, submit and the image shows up in your comment box.

Once you have done it a few times it’s like riding a bike. 🙂

It gives hope that the repubs are doomed if they are stupid enough to obstruct the president on this.

I thought that the turtle was involved in a cocaine scandal, why is he the majority leader instead of being disgraced, removed from the Senate, and in jail?

Thanks for the link. A very interesting and well informed conversation. A breath of fresh air.

Weekend Music Thread – So Happy Together

That sound familiar. We have had cats and dogs too when I was a child. Had been here for 6 months when I was missing the cat we had to leave behind with my parents.

Can’t imagine our house without one. We still have 3, and when her sister leaves us, we will be thinking of two more babies. A boy and a girl. Hoping that Nikkie can’t read this as I want her around for many more years.

» Posted By Kalima On February 13, 2016 @ 5:52 pm

They are in our house, KT, funny moods and all. 🙂

» Posted By Kalima On February 13, 2016 @ 5:27 pm

That is so sweet, KT, but Minnie was one of our girl cats, and we are already missing her, especially her sister, Nikkie. I had read somewhere that cats don’t grieve, they are wrong. It took Minnie several months to stop searching for her friend Kali who died in 2014. She didn’t eat for 3 days.

» Posted By Kalima On February 13, 2016 @ 4:30 pm

For our darling little Minnie who passed quite suddenly at 14 and a half years on Friday morning. Always in my heart. Such a beautiful little girl.

We were at this concert.

Will Hillary’s Use of the Gender Card Backfire?

As you all know, I won’t be voting in your election but find this article from the BBC a fair enough answer to the question and facts that you based your article on. I expect the GOP to try something that has failed once, over and over again, but not someone who has put herself out there as a Progressive. It smells of desperation and the voting is just beginning. Being thin-skined, and blaming the opposition while accusing them of a smearfest because of her gender, is quite frankly appalling. Voting for someone who implied that if I didn’t vote for her I would be a “traitor” would put me off that person for life. Very disappointing and in no way empowering women.

My own opinion is that anyone who expects or demands special treatment because they are a woman, should not be running for the office of the president of the United States. It is a tough job. The gender card makes her look weak.

Thanks for the article, AdLib, and to answer your question, I think it will backfire, it was a costly mistake. I can’t imagine ever voting for a woman just because she is a woman. I live in a country where many men don’t listen to women. Where for many we are expected to be seen but not heard. Still, if I could vote here, I wouldn’t vote for a gender expecting a huge change in the attitudes of men who have been mollycoddled from birth to think they are more important than women, and who believe that women are incapable of making decisions. If Hillary wins the nomination, she will still be facing that in America too.

Now back to sleep. It’s 3 in the morning and I have no idea why I’m up.

The Two Candidates That Really Need to Win in Iowa Tonight

Ain’t bad at all, but then you have that uncanny gift, are good at maths, or a champion jigsaw puzzler, and always share it with us. Without predictions, ideas and opinions, there is no conversation whether people agree with you or not. Without conversation there would be no Planet. Thanks for that!

And to think how the media disrespectfully ignored Bernie until recently, calling him an “outsider”. Shows how much they know. I’m sure there must be millions of proud Americans tonight.

Heard that a pro-Bernie university town ran out of ballots. How convenient.

» Posted By Kalima On February 1, 2016 @ 8:53 pm

Trump’s ego just fell into Middle Earth, and Cruz is hated by his party and sane voters, so won’t win on a national scale.

Want to see Trump’s red face and pouty potty mouth. Want to be a fly on the wall. Still, Trump is not a politician and has nothing to lose except his ego driven pride. His bid for the WH will be used to gain further business deals and talk around the dinner table. The respect he sought is lost because he spoke from the gutter, and that’s where he stays. Hated by millions at home and abroad.

Rooting for Bernie who is doing better than many expected.

Anti-Abortion Republicans are Also Pro-Criminals

Brainwashing only works for some, some of the time. Brainwashing a majority of the nation, forgetaboutit. The facts are there. Planned Parenthood do not sell body part, and yet the dishonest fantasy goes on. Benghazi. Kenyan Muslim. The Muslim Brotherhood infiltrating the White House. The president taking away their guns, etc. It’s amazing how willingly some are so easily led even when they are being used and lied to right, left and centre. This is “white privilege”. No matter how bizarre their chosen politicians become, they will follow no matter the consequences and trail of unfulfilled promised. Some because they want to fit in. Some because their hate is toxic and they need to feel validated. Some because it’s easier than forming an opinion.

Like the Bundy bunch, they have no respect for any laws, have no conscience and are happy about destroying any signs of morality and sanity. These people have the audacity to call themselves Christians when there is nothing remotely Christian about them. These are the people that Jesus would scorn and throw out of the temple. What happens when they lose? They will become eben more bitter and teach their next generations how to hate and lie.

The sky is blue. No, the sky is green.

Great article, AdLib.

Satire Declares Bankruptcy After Sarah Palin Endorses Donald Trump

Don’t panic satire, there are millions if not billions who get you. Look on the bright side, the repubs and far right tribes around the world will never understand you. It takes someone who can laugh at themselves and they are too humourless and too busy pointing fingers of blame while laughing at others. This too will pass when reality reigns again for America and the rest of the world. Palin, screeching aside, looked like a melting wax replica of herself. Until the GE in November I have one wish. Would someone induce a coma so that my mind stays sane enough to enjoy the humiliating defeat of the crazies in full color and stereo?

A Trump or Cruz in your WH is a danger for all of us. I still have faith that when push comes to shove, the voters will do the right thing.

Btw, I stepped on my glasses yesterday. It’s Obama’s fault. Something fell off the top of our fridge last night and smacked me on my shoulder. It’s Obama’s fault. It didn’t snow in Tokyo as predicted, and one of my cats peed on the carpet and it’s all Obama’s fault.

This made me laugh out loud.

It was forceful and dismissive of repub aggression and lying fairy tales. The put downs of Trump and Cruz hit their mark.

Yes, right over their tiny heads as usual, but then again, most of them have to count on their hands unless it concerns money, and the scope of their vocabulary is limited to “No!” “Repeal!”and “Scroungers!”.

I’m sure he will work hard to get the wheels turning on issues that still need fixing to help the American people in the time he has left.

Deeply saddened by the fact that it’s the last one for this honest and remarkable man. It would have been even better if Paul Ryan’s miserable, conniving face had been turned to stare at the flag.

Miss him already.

Why Donald Trump Absolutely, Positively Can’t Win the Presidency

Trump might think that all of those who attend his reality shows will vote for him but according to an article I posted a few weeks ago, they just come to see the spectacle he performs in front of these crowds and many don’t think they will vote for him. That sounds like a carnival show where people queue to see the two headed man and the bearded lady.

Whatever happens I don’t think he will ever be setting foot in the WH, and when it’s over, his reputation is trashed enough to make him a pariah. If I never see him again it will be too soon.

Here is the article.
