The system we have is just unconscionable. Making profits just to be a middle man and deliver our money to providers is pure blood money. I just can’t understand why everyone does not see that all insurers do is give us our own money back when we need it. Best wishes for you and your family in the future. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On August 4, 2009 @ 1:23 pm Nice article. I view it more as denial versus reality. Republicans are not stupid, they are the ultimate rationalists. Like I have said many times “our species greatest strength is our ability to reason, while our greatest weakness is our propensity to rationalize”. Republicans also access their fear driven reptilian brains much more than high minded progressive thinkers. But again it’s more about ignorance than lacking innate intelligence. I remember a study awhile back that showed it took much more brain activity to tell a lie than to tell the truth. Obviously telling lies requires extra thought processes like imagination instead of just recalling experiences. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On August 1, 2009 @ 5:14 pm This is really the Republicans last stand. They know if universal healthcare reform passes they will be the 20% party for decades. It’s all politics for them. Meanwhile for 47,000,000 uninsured Americans which is actually over 50,000,000 if you extrapolate the numbers like you said the GOP is waiting for them to die. In fact 20,000 people die each year for lack of adequate healthcare. 34 people may have already died by the time I wrote this today. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On July 21, 2009 @ 1:50 pm Is Holder Freaking Kidding Us? Fine no investigation at all then. They were never going to lead anywhere. What investigation of government investigating top levels of government ever has been successful? The very best result we ever get is catching people in lies or obstructing justice. From Watergate, through Iran Contra and Whitewater all the way to the Plame case government has proven it cannot investigate itself for one clear reason. You can never take politics out of the equation. Time to get universal healthcare passed anyway. It took months to get progressives to fight for real healthcare instead of obsessing about Bush anyway. Not having a real healthcare system in this country contributes to the deaths of 20,000 Americans a year. Now conservatives whether Republican or Democrat in name are doing what they can to obstruct any real progress. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On July 12, 2009 @ 9:40 pm In my lifetime Republicans always have been for rich people and corporations. They are not even for small businesses who would be decimated but such a tax as well. I saw that too about that asshole Baucus. But it does seem even with Repubs that taxing benefits is off the table. I was going to catch that in my next update probably Monday. I still have not seen Senator Rockefeller’s report out yet. The whole shit storm with Pelosi and the CIA seems to be dominating pols today. I’m 100% for taxing the 5% fuck them. The rich in this country the lowest tax burden in the industrialized world. We need to ship all the tea baggers to Mexico where they have no income tax like the tea baggers want. Where they can see what kind of society no income taxes give you. The most ridiculous tax law people seldom talk about is the income cap on payroll taxes with is only $115,000. That means a middle manager that makes $115,000/year pays the same payroll taxes as a CEO or ball player making $10,000,000/year. Talk about insane. I even maxed out on payroll taxes the last few years I was working. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On July 9, 2009 @ 1:07 pm Why Do Liberals “Hate” Sarah451? The worse part like I said during the election the campaign continues because McCain did not put “Country First”, he put his ambitions first and is still dividing the country. Picking Palin just assured that trolls would continue right wing talking points like they do today. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On July 6, 2009 @ 2:35 pm New Time Religion – Church of the Woo Woos 😆 You’re right at least trees grow a little faster when you talk to them nicely. How do you like my little Ron Paul “photoshop” job? » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 17, 2009 @ 7:14 pm Exactly and well said. Anytime I have an argument with a woo woo all I get is regurgitation of the same creed over and over again. In fact many times they will cut and paste arguments from their conspiracy websites. Now if someone cut and paste sections of the Bible or the Koran to make their arguments woo woos would be the first ones to tell you that you are being controlled by religion. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 17, 2009 @ 6:52 pm Barack Obama, Straussian-in-Chief Well said. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 10, 2009 @ 6:21 pm I agree with you Kalima. It was not the president that wanted to stop the pictures it was the prime minister of Iraq because he knew they would spark violence. It was especially bad timing to release these pictures before the president’s Mideast trip. The pictures are already out and others will eventually come out so when they are released is the only question now. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 10, 2009 @ 6:20 pm I’m with you there. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 10, 2009 @ 12:07 am Where’s your thumbnail graphic? I expected some morphed picture of Obama and Cheney. :snark: » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 9, 2009 @ 3:12 pm I respectfully disagree there is always a balance between security and freedom that every liberal democratic society must grapple with now and throughout history. I also think that Obama should be much more aggressive in returning our civil liberties on many fronts including things like the stupid drug war. Transparency is always just a matter of time in a democracy. The “other” photos will come out. Everything eventually comes out so I just don’t see the reason to be transparent when it’s counter to our own national security. When it comes to big decisions like going to war of course the debate should be open but realtime details about national security operations not so much. FDR war department “Loose Lips Sink Ships”. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 9, 2009 @ 2:26 pm Damn my vision is real bad today so I can’t see the text in the text box today that well so excuse any typos. I tried to edit my post after it was published but it did not show up yet. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 9, 2009 @ 1:27 pm I never thought President Obama was going to prosecute Bush because he does not want to be prosecuted endlessly by Republicans after he is out of office. It simply is unprecedented and administrations have done worse things in the past they were never prosecuted for after they were in office. I don’t think it has anything to do with long term strategy but breaking precedent. As far as transparency goes I wish the president would be more transparent on the warranted wire tapping program and the bank bailouts even though when he has been transparent he’s been burned. But I understand the need for secrets with most national security information. Sorry but it was the Iraq government that insisted the president not release more torture photos. He was prepared to release them but Malaki begged the US not to release them because he was afraid he would lose control of his country again. The photos will come out eventually like every secret does. “We need to know EVERYTHING that we possibly can know.” That is complete naive nonsense. We can know but should not know many national security secrets, like operational details, missile codes and even what intelligence we get from proper interrogations etc etc… The real nonsense is saying President Obama is like Cheney when you see they are the opposite in so many ways. You saw Cheney argue for torture and keeping Gitmo open and the president argue the opposite. Presidents will and should always keep national security secretes for security reasons. I’m always right of most liberals on national security because I try to put myself in the president’s shoes. Having the safety of over 300,000,000 people has changed every person that has had that responsibility. I would have even been behind Bush if he did not start the war in Iraq, torture and treated prisoners using the rules of the Geneva Convention. Carter maybe the only Democratic president in recent history that was not at least right center on national security. Disappointment is always based on unmet expectations and while I expected Obama to be less of a hawk than Bush and Cheney, I knew he was not “weak” on national security like Republicans are still saying after his Cairo speech. The bottom line is I trust Obama not to start stupid wars like Bush did. In fact unlike Bush he is serious about being an honest broker in the Mideast and reducing nuclear proliferation including our own arsenal. The president’s whole view of foreign policy strategy is 180 degrees different than Bush’s. There are plenty of places you can go to continue the Obama is just like Bush (now Cheney with your assertions) meme like the Nation and Alternet. It don’t agree with hyperbole on either side. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 9, 2009 @ 1:17 pm Free market principles simply don’t work in business sectors where economies of scale rule like in the health insurance industry. In such market places they need to be treated like utilities which are highly regulated and because it’s healthcare there should be a non-profit public plan administered by the government or NGO and if private insurance wants to stay in the game it should be allowed a minimal profit. Face it few mature large business sectors ever have free market competition because the forces to consolidate are so strong competition is severly limited. I saw Bill Maher and the most absurd part was that she pointed to businesspeople like Bill Gates which was ironic because Microsoft has done every thing he can to stifle competition. BTW Did you notice the guy from the Nation. Like usual everyone against the Afghanistan war is intellectually dishonest when asked what they would do in Afghanistan they never said what they would do they diverted and said what they would not do as his answer. I can’t wait for that debate. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 7, 2009 @ 1:00 pm This is one subject I would love to debate with conservatives as long as we can get some on board that are not trolls. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 6, 2009 @ 1:30 pm I hate to admit that even Democrats have been part of the problem in the past. It was LBJ that got us involved in Vietnam which was an unmitigated disaster. It was Clinton that helped lead to the financial crisis by deregulating banks, signed draconian welfare reform into law, escalated the stupid drug war and started the process of extraordinary renditions. It was the Dems that never sought to impeach Bush for war crimes after many of the same congresspeople allowed Republicans to steamroll the impeachment of Clinton for a BJ. Even great presidents like FDR made mistakes and put Japanese Americans in interment camps during WWII. Like I said in an earlier post we have done great things other nations have not done as a culture but we have made our share of mistakes as well. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 6, 2009 @ 1:28 pm BINGO! You hit one of my major pet peeves. American Exceptionalism is an excuse used by people to NOT live up to our principles. Anyone who can say we are an exceptional given our history of slavery, genocide and warmongering is completely full of shit. When we are humble and live up to our principles we show glimmers of greatness like landing man on the moon and elect the first non-white person in the Western world. I believe we deserve the credit when we do act up to our principles. But we are a very imperfect nation just like any other nation I might add. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 6, 2009 @ 1:21 pm Alas I’m a frustrated musician and artist with no talent. Actually my corporate career is a pretty good example of needed to move from place to place to find work in this country. Now we are stuck here pretty much until the housing market comes back which could still be years away. Eventually we want to move back to the Virginia area which is becoming more of “blue state” in the common vernacular. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 5, 2009 @ 6:59 pm My wife’s just not a big blogger but she’s a much better writer than me. In fact she’s helping me write my next article about healthcare. She worked at “Big Blue” for years so she’s got some great incite into how the system works. What many people don’t realize is that within healthcare insurance companies there are two factions that are always in conflict, the people who only are properly concerned about care and the people mostly concerned about the business. The people that are guided by principles involving care are usually the nurses and doctors that these companies employ though many of them are programmers, administrators and even actuaries. Then there are the people that only care about the business and they are the ones that are the non-medical practitioner executive types and staff. » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 5, 2009 @ 6:21 pm The problem is not even with the second amendment it’s the way the right wing interprets the second amendment. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The right wing totally ignores the first part of the sentence, in fact the NRA leaves it out completely in their literature. The first part of the sentence means that government has the ability to pass any gun control law they want. It’s also a dated concept because the whole purposes of the second amendment was supposed to be a safeguard against tyranny. For example if the government was taking over by a right wing coup d’etat in it’s early inception people would be able to rise up to take back the country from the criminal government because they had arms and could form militias. The real problem with that mindset is that we are now well over 200 years into our development and our institutions are well established. And while power does tend to concentrate in the Executive branch no one can really “take over” the country. Also for all practical purposes the military in this country has weaponry that is so far more destructive than citizens can own that a militia could never take over the country if it wanted to in the first place. So the original intent of the 2nd amendment is simply moot and it really has become an argument about self defense rather than preventing tyranny. Ironically I live in a town that has a law on the books that says everyone in the town MUST own a gun. It was a law put on the books as a backlash to gun control laws. Here are the details. http://www.rense.com/general9/gunlaw.htm » Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 5, 2009 @ 6:01 pm Do you mean the reply comment box appearing at the bottom of the page instead of right under the comment?
