America and Democracy Are Not For Sale Boys

Kes that is the cutest thing ever.

Excellent piece Sue. The good guys won despite all the efforts on the dark side.

Indeed the media is wholly complicit for what went on during this election. Faux News and right wing radio was just a continual ad for the GOP. I hate to say at least prime time MSNBC was about the same. Of course the big difference was that the right wing media was selling an inferior product and MSNBC was endorsing a good product. CNN was simply the definition of corporate MSM but by keeping pundits like Erick Erickson they proved they want to lean right.

One of my biggest disappointments is how Gallup joined Rasmussen in being propagandists using their influential polling firms to forward the right wing media’s delusions. For Gallup to have Romney ahead by 5 points a couple days before the election and for both Gallup and Rasmussen to be tied for the 24th most least accurate polling firms was part of the propaganda machine. Both polling firms had obvious bias toward Republicans on the order of 3+ points which is huge in such a close election with so many polls.

However nothing was worse than the media letting Romney and the right wing getting away with so many lies. Romney will go down as the most mendacious general election candidate in modern history with not just flip flops on every single major issue but continuous lies about the President’s record. I’m not naive. All campaigns spin and stretch the truth but Romney ran a post truth campaign. But what should we expect from a candidate who lied about his name in his first debate during the primaries and in his first attack ad about Obama.

I wish I could say that Republicans or at least the media will do so honest soul searching but they will not.

No wonder 4 out of the top 6 groups you discuss also happen to have the highers percentage of psychopaths.

1. CEO
2. Lawyer
3. Media (TV/Radio)
4. Salesperson
5. Surgeon
6. Journalist
7. Police Officer
8. Clergy

The Media Empire Strikes Back (with post-election memes)!

Amen bito. The real truth is that the right wing will never change so they do their best to ignore it. In fact their mentality is just the opposite. The faster change happens the further they want to go back.

Myth: Obama only won because of demographics is a lazy minded meme because that’s just the manifestation of what we see and not the whole reasoning behind it. Now if you call one demographic people that vote for their self interests and another demographic people that vote against their self interests I would agree more with the demographic theory being the whole reason Obama won. In other words Democrats vote much more consistently with their self interests than Republicans do. For example African Americans don’t vote for Dems mostly because of racial identity even with an AA candidate. I guarantee you most AAs did not vote for teabagger Allen West. AAs vote for Dems because about 90% of AAs believe in Democratic institutions like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, civil rights etc… The same with the Latino vote and add in the issue of immigration where Dems are much more in line with Latinos’ self interests of fair minded comprehensive immigration reform.

It’s many more white voters who vote their racial identity aka the GOP instead of their self interests. The perfect example is the way white seniors vote. Upwards of 60% white seniors voted for Romney yet these same white seniors when polled support Medicare and Social Security by almost 80% in some polls. So you have to ask yourself why these white seniors are voting against the party defending Medicare and Social Security. Sure you can say some white seniors are just fooled or are voting based on social conservative issues, but when you poll the importance of issues white seniors still overwhelmingly choose Medicare and Social Security.

Of course the ultimate idiots are people like Bill O’Reilly that say Obama voters are just people that ‘want stuff’. The fact is when you are talking about Medicare and Social Security about 2/3rds of the electorate ‘want stuff’. The only difference in the white population is a big part of that demographic just don’t vote their real wants and needs.

It’s simple correlation that minorities choose Dems based on race, the real cause and effect relationship is minority voters vote much more consistently for their self interests than white voters. So the bottom line is in future with increasing numbers of minority voters it will simply mean that more voters who will be consistently voting for Democrats who are aligned with their self interests.

Mittens is done for good thankfully. He’ll go right back to focusing on making $$$. He does not have a statesmanlike or charitable bone in his body. One day he’ll probably do one of those remember me AmeEx commercials or Viagra or something.

Obama will only be 55 at the end of his last term. I sincerely hope he takes a year or too off and comes back in some capacity. Maybe as SOS (though that could be a constitutional problem) or other part of the cabinet. Maybe even put Obama on the SCOTUS.

I was probably more wrong about another aspect I thought would come to fruition this election since the last debate I was sure Obama would win. The money advantage was not on Romney’s side it was more a draw or even advantage Obama because the Obama campaign got to control their media campaign money in a much more precise way than Romney could with his billionaire superPACs. The Romney ads were not great but much better than the superPAC ads and obviously Obama’s ads where the most effective of all.

It’s just anecdotal evidence but one of the superPAC ads for Romney toward the end of the election was so so lame I could not even tell at first that it was an ad in favor of Romney. It was one of those kinder gentler ads that tried to support Romney’s sudden dive to the center but it was so bad it sounded like the woman in the ad was supporting Obama policies.

Knowing how ignorant Republicans are they will obstruct to prevent Obama from winning a 3rd term. Sure it’s crazy but I bet at one point this coming four years we’ll hear a right wing conspiracy that Obama wants to end the two term limit for POTUS.

Most importantly AdLib you win the pundit prediction crown (at least on the Planet of course Nate Silver is the prediction God). Just checked the latest updates and Obama is up by 2.4% in the popular vote. So your prediction that he will win by 2.5% + looks to be dead on balls accurate. I abdicate the crown even though I picked Romney to win the GOP nod (you picked anyone but Romney) because let’s face it the GOP nomination really meant nothing this year. It was really just a clown car crash in very very slow motion.

An Open Letter to my Sons – November 5th, 2008

Thanks you for sharing this funk. Not only is what you said beautiful but I think not only this president’s election but accomplishments will stand up to history if the president is reelected.

Mainstream Media Mania – One Last Day To Drive Voters Crazy

First you are 1000% right with your observation. Even Mr. Sure Thing (Lawrence O’Donnell) broke from his normal braggadocio that Obama was a lock this election. But not counting O’Donnell’s cynical flip flop, I think some MSNBC folks are doing the president a favor for calling it so close to be honest. It’s much better than spreading the Nate Silver 90%+ lock line I see on Twitter which will just make some people complacent I fear.

I may be one of those people that needs to enter an election proof bubble. My distractions of choice are audio books and old time radio shows. Maybe I’ll do a self CBS Radio Mystery Theater marathon since they did so many and I even get to hear old reports about Watergate when we had a real media sprinkled throughout the shows.

A Close Race and a Victorious Obama

Great point when you think about it in the last 20 years of general elections the Democratic candidate one the popular vote 4 our of 5 times. The only thing that conservatives do better is come out to vote especially during midterm elections. If this progressives would finally vote in the numbers they should we would have a progressive era for years and years to come.

Excellent summary of the campaign Murph.

I for one don’t think you can underestimate character and vision in this campaign. As long as you are not blinded by hatred for Obama or are so wishy washy a person that you believe the MSM memes, it is obvious there is only one candidate who has the character to be leader of the free world and C-in-C. President Obama simply trumps Romney on every important personality trait from integrity, honesty, intelligence, empathy, decision making, consistency, etc…

Only one candidate has a vision for this country. While President Obama has not talked about his vision as much during this election as he did in 2008 he will continue to sustain and build on previous successes that will move this country forward. Besides the NYTs and a few progressive outlets the MSM failed to report that the Obama administration is forming a pseudo public option that will run by the Feds through a nonprofit NGO that will be available in all states. I also think Obama has a good chance passing comprehensive immigration reform and effectively ending DOMA for good. Obviously Obama is the only candidate who is really concerned about climate change and will continue to invest not only in clean energy but in education promoting engineering, maths and sciences.

Even though the popular vote will be close no matter who wins remember that Americans are only voting FOR one candidate (President Obama) and the other side is just voting for hate. The fact is no on really wants Romney to be president and that thought that nowhere man is this close to the presidency shows just how corrosive our electoral politics have become during our continuing cold civil war.

Or Obama could just win because GM lives and OBL is dead.

Willard Mitt Romney – A$$HOLE (the king of the GOP and their national anthem)

Carly Simon – You’re So Vain

I think Mittens was one of the vainest people to ever run from president. From his dyed and perfectly quaffed hair to his never wrinkled cloths including when he wore jeans.

The Greatest Worsts of the 2012 Presidential Election – Vol. 1

BTW Willard’s closing argument is perhaps the most cynical of all. We all must vote for him otherwise the GOPTEA House will destroy the country. In any other democracy this would be seen as pure treason.

Mitt says: “Vote for me… Or Else”

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/02/1154483/-Mitt-says-Vote-for-me-Or-Else

Like Krugman says this argument rewards bad behavior and it’s worth it to vote for Obama just to keep the gains we have. I think Obama can get some things done in the second term, possible the grand bargain but more likely immigration especially if the GOP realizes that the Latino vote is finally important to them. I also think if the economy keeps growing the Dems have a good chance to take back the House in 2014.

Wow AdLib I don’t know how you can boil it down to so few worsts. I can see why you only called this part 1. This is the worst campaign I’ve ever seen in my lifetime run by a challenger. I think one worst you can easily add is worst race baiting. It probably was the welfare lie but don’t forget the birther comment by Romney, the foreign memes or last but not least the Food Stamp President meme.

Periodic Table of Dangerous Elements: Final 2012 Edition

That’s the danger of a Romney presidency. You have no idea what he believes. All he will do is do anything to get reelected which could include starting a war or two. Most likely he is going to ride what Obama did accomplished, raise the debt with more government spending and lowering taxes with no offsets. While Obama had real courage and told people exactly what he wanted to do and did what he could to achieve those objective. I don’t call it brilliance it’s absolutely the most cynical presidential campaign in history.

Yeah that’s one of my favorite golden oldies as well.

Cheers Q I knew you would be someone who appreciated this the most. The series are off a little from the first edition just because it was too hard to keep them all consistent without reordering the whole table.

😆 I know that smell anywhere.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On November 2, 2012 @ 1:01 pm

Believe me the GOP and the right wing gave me a plethora of bad actors to pick from and I wish I could mention them all. Indeed Allen West at least deserves honorable mention.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On November 1, 2012 @ 6:46 pm

Cheers K. Cameron definitely is worth putting on the list of most dangerous elements by any standard. Cutting NHS to the bone as you well know is just one part of his policies that hurt people in the UK.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On November 1, 2012 @ 6:42 pm

Actually working on these two updates I was considering that I should really make the positive case for progress next time I make a list.

Frankly I probably couldn’t do a positive version of the Periodic Table because I couldn’t fill it with our current cast of characters in politics, the media or even internationally with the shift to the right. In fact with the current GOP and other right wingers in the media and internationally I could probably fill up two tables now.

Alas I always have to give credit to the Periodic Table of Criminal Elements that was obviously my inspiration for the PTODEs. You’ll even notice there are even a few characters on both tables.
