Democratic Navel-Gazing, or The Circular Firing Squad – Part III

We both know better than that, nellie blogger. But I was willing to apologize anyway.

I’m sorry, Nellie, forgive me.

Marion, I don’t know what you’ve been consuming, but that was so wrong.

We won’t have a national healthcare bill, or it will be this abomination that will merely alienate even more voters in November. After yesterday, the right wing and the centrist (ha ha) democrats are going to dig in and stall everything else.

As for getting things incrementally, you are speaking of a different time. We have never had the sad groundswell of activity to stop the government from doing things in as many ways as we have now. In the fall, we will lose seats. We will probably still have a majority, but not a functional one.

And in 2012 it is likely that, mostly because of the propaganda machine on the right and the American public’s belief that answers should come instantaneously, President Obama will be voted out. And we will get a Republican who will further devastate America and will then blame Obama and the Democrats for the disaster which that new Republican and his Congressional friends will have actually created.

But you can continue to want to believe in all this. Myself, I’ve come to the realization that we’re all doomed, and that the so-called progressives who will accept just about anything and call it a victory are to blame as much as ill-conceived policies and actions from both governing bodies.

Democrats to Bypass Conference Committee to Pass Healthcare Bill

Kquark: IMHO, the bargaining will go like this: White House to House Democrats: We can only pass it if it’s what the Senate Democrats and Lieberman have agreed to. Get on board. This is the only train in town. Or no ride at all.

A sad but probably highly accurate assessment.

US & UK Yemen Embassies Close

No matter what the reason for the closure of the embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom in Yemen, we should remember that historically the closing and reopening of embassies for various reasons, whether war, or enmity, or other reasons, has and will continue to be a tool of foreign policy for countries.

Examples: United States Embassies in: Uganda in the 1970s, Cambodia in the 1960s, etc. For a more clear knowledge of when and why these closures occured, go to http://history.state.gov/countries/ and go through each country to see the embassy history.

The right wishes to treat this as an event of major historical significance, in reality it is closer to a more cyclical and normal event. We all need to understand these facts in order to counter the wild claims from the right regarding this episode in American history.

More significantly, the DOS needs to be proactive in having this information available for press releases. It is a war of words out there, and the administration should be always prepared to have historical support for their actions readily available.

100 years of a national park done right

Nice article, Pepe. The Reagan philosophy of opening up the parks to more and more cars and RVs was a bad idea. Instead, what we should consider is adding low speed tour monorails or the like above the floor of the area so that it does not disturb wildlife with noise or infrastructure, other than support towers. This would also reduce the wear and tear on the entire area, and give more viewing access to those with physical limitations. Not to mention produce a lot of jobs and some technological innovation.

The parks are a treasure to share with all, but with a great responsibility to preserving them and their habitats for future generations. Only by reducing man’s effective footprint within the wilderness parks can we do so.

Help Desk

This site does not, last time I observed, have “profiles” in the sense of the word as used by other websites. The administrator can explain why, but the entire system is just set up somewhat differently. It is something you learn and get used to.

Thank you. I’ll refrain from supplying a Keven Seven style reply.

Boomer, I think that if you write sincerely, from the heart, and have some good conclusions, all the rest will come together. Not everyone writes masterpieces on a daily basis. I don’t know of any. Even those who make their livings at it. So go with your heart, and discover that we are receptive to many different manners of thought and ways of writing. Welcome and congratulations on you emancipation from HP.

Keven: That is the problem, the “business model”. The American MBA is the biggest piece of poison we spread throughout the world. I have one. Took a lot of effort to keep my mouth shut for 16 months and eat the shit they offered. But I had hopes it would be useful. Unfortunately, I am still who I am. I cannot act deceitfully and take advantage of others, so in many work environments I could never use my MBA in Management.

Now I’m also still a child of the 1960s. I still believe in the Age of Aquarius. I still beleive we can be greater than we are now, as opposed to the Troll concept that being an animal is good. I still believe that peace can be had, although in the modern world there are far too many sources for hate and weapons to augment that hate with. If I cannot believe in the greater good and capacity of man, the world has no meaning beyond being the holding place for just so many animals.

If you’ve read my piece here on, Hi, I’m Rob-S, and I’m a Moderaholic, you know what I think of the depth of the moderation problem.

This was written to provide us more leeway in our dealings, to realize that there are issues and that they should be known to Arianna, whether she acknowledges them or does anything about them. But I was not going to use it as a piece to vent on. I can easily do that any time.

Yes, some of us use HP as a joisting field, and there are far more than enough Trolls worth lancing to keep in practice with.

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 2:54 pm

Pepe: You have mail!

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 2:50 pm

adlib: Today I directly asked mcantwell to come over and read both what Pepe and I wrote. Didn’t do it on HP, but, as I said, directly. I hope she, who is reasonable and wise, will see the points made and, even if she doesn’t encourage others to read what has been said, will consider more on our points of view.

Today’s article was spur of the moment. But I thought about it step by step and sought out the most responsible way of presenting a message.

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 10:43 am

Thank you, Pepe. It needed to be said. Let no one suggest we are unreasonable, only that we have standards which we are unwilling to sell off for a few clicks here and there.

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 10:38 am

Thank you, my friend. I sometimes think that my time has past, as fire and brimstone progressives are often not wanted by many of the “respectable” lefties. When Ed Schultz gets a cooking, I can just see them drawing back in fear. Me, I’m going to be who I am, and they all can be damned if they can’t handle it.

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 9:51 am

We should get Sarah, Levi, Jon and Kate, Orly, Michele B, and the former Miss Cali all in a baloon for a photo op ride. Think of the story that could be made from that concept!

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 9:06 am

Cher: I hear you. I do know where you’re coming from. There are many issues I have issues with the president on. I’d give you references to my latest HP quotes, but that would require me to acknowledge my latest socks, sorry. I am very disappointed in some of his decisions. But I don’t think the criticism I see out of the HP writers and Arianna is just or accurate. I’m a New Deal kind of guy, through and through. Pro-union, pro conservation, and pro making America work. I don’t see Arianna or her minions talking that. I doubt that Arianna would let a Union (wo)man into her publishing empire.

No, it’s hard to say that he has been disappointing at times without providing fuel for the Trolls. But neither can we be blind cheerleaders, not that I think you are advocating that in any way. But there are some over there who come off that way.

I always care about your opinion, Cher.

I’m waiting on the “Levi Johnston’s Small Hands” article, coming soon with the next set of pictures from Playgirl.

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 8, 2009 @ 8:49 am

Sue: I could have been facetious, as is evident in my RobS piece, but instead I regarded this as a very serious topic and put my heart into being open, direct, honest, and hopefully non-offensive. I doubt it will be listened to by those in power there, but it had to be said, and in just that manner.

But we can use it as a show-piece to those who still question what kind of honest writing can occur at Planet POV and our deep devotion to the truth.

Thank you for the compliment, BTW. 🙂

A warning about trolls

Do I need to remind you how you greeted one of my friends when they first came over here?

Never take that tone with me. I heard it once before and didn’t like it, and I don’t need it now.

I didn’t say to blackball him, I just said I won’t chose to be here.

» Posted By Corgi Lover On December 9, 2009 @ 11:22 am

Solomons Devotion: Your claim you came here to get away from four stalkers is a lie. It was you posting stuff from here on HP the other day, and you know that HITO, Seek, Dey, and myself are here. Your fixation is unacceptable.

adlib, this one is bad news. Ever hear of Brown, ect?

I’m going black until this is done.

Cold, windy, rainy, dark and depressing. Yes, that was yesterday. I didn’t see the story, but I’ve sworn off local news.

Got the John McCain anti-healthcare reform robo call today. From a man who’s been on public provided healthcare since the moment he became a zygote, he has a lot of gall.
