Starting a tradition that could end just as suddenly as it began, we present to you, as a lead up to our regular Weekend Music Thread feature that launches every Saturday, a Friday parody song that uses music you know and lyrics you may wish you never met.
Today’s song, set to the tune of Lee Greenwood’s lyrically complex and musically challenging, “Proud to be an American”, is “Proud to be a Democrat”.
PROUD TO BE A DEMOCRAT
(to the tune of “Proud To Be An American”)
“If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my Starbucks and my wife.
I’d blame Tea Party folks who’d be raving here today,
‘Cause my Tall still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be a Democrat where at least I know I’m sane.
And I won’t forget the crazy bitch, that ran with John McCain.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and ignore Jeb! still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no dolt like that old man, God bless the half-insane.
From the gays in Minnesota, to the blacks in Tennessee,
from the the women of Texas, from sea to shining sea,
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every minority heart,
and it’s time to stand and say:
I’m proud to be a Democrat where at least I can fistbump.
And I won’t forget the Repubs who’ve tried, to elect a douche named Trump.
And I’d gladly stand up next to “O” and defend him still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land but Repubs please go away.”
