Welcome once again folks to another Weekend Music Thread. Fortunately we have fought the good fight this past year long enough to see another Independence Day celebration. A truly momentous day in American history. A celebration of a monumental achievement by our founders.
Let’s feature songs about America, songs of freedom, songs about the continuing struggle to keep our hard won independence and liberty. Let us rejoice, through song, for our founders’ crowning (or I should say un-crowning) achievements. 😉
My father passed on July 3rd eight years ago. I think of him every fourth of July even more than I do the rest of the year. This is for all of the planeteers, and anyone who might be missing their father during this holiday weekend.
Uniquely American:
I used to listen to this as a kid, and just get swept away by it. My parents had it on those old, thick 78rpm records.

They should have to watch the whole series. Loved these as a child. Thanks for the memories.
I like the one about a Bill reaching toward being a law.
I’d say Zooey knocked it out of the park!
Great pick! One of my all time faves.
You owe me a coke. I posted Moms Mabley’s version of this this morning. I’ll take a root beer instead.
Different versions are OK. Cokes are only owed for the same song by the same artist. There are many great different interpretations of the same song, by different artists.
Fair enough. Now I have a new challenge, picking the same song by a different artist. Just a warning, I have over 17,000 songs on my ipod which I use as my reference point and many of the songs are dupes by different artists. If you ever do an angels and devils thread, I think I have more than a dozen versions of The Devil Went Down to Georgia. LOL!!
