What the world needs now is many things such as hope, love, happiness, tenderness, strength, spirituality and a much larger sense of togetherness and a real appreciation of life. The brinkmanship in Congress is a sad example of a lack of any of these fore mentioned values.
The terrible use of chemical weapons, bombings, and shootings and the shameful lack of adequate health care and wellness for profit, the agonizing hunger and thirst for clean water and fresh air, is a direct result of the lack of our most precious, universal values.
So with this in mind, post your most personal, favorite songs that represent any or all of these higher ideals. Oh, and don’t forget to smile while doing so. 😉
Jackie DeShannon – What the World Needs Now Is Love
I Say a Little Prayer-Dionne Warwick
Otis Redding – Try A Little Tenderness

Nature’s Way by Spirit
KT, this doesn’t really go with your theme but I have to dedicate this one to myself. See, I got this great idea to put river rock down along the side of our house were nothing will grow. With all the work on our ancient water/sewer lines in the street running by our house, there was tons of rocks available. (We live on an ancient lake bed, lots of rocks!) So, I went and picked up rocks as the men were working, which several of the men were very nice about helping when they found a good one and putting it aside. I moved them to the side of our house. Then I placed them were I wanted them. Looked good until I realized I should have put that black stuff down so the grass wouldn’t grow up between them. Had to pick them back up again. Now I am putting down the black stuff and replacing the rocks. This is the fifth time I have moved those damn rocks! Yes, Sally, you have some brilliant ideas at time! “Ooh, aah, ooh, aah, Ooh, aah, ooh, aah (Well, don’t you know) That’s the sound of the Sally Working on the chain gang That’s the sound of Sally Working on the chain gang!”

Very fitting, Ad. We could sure use another Summer of Love, or Autumn, or Winter or Spring! 😉
You said it, pal! Many younger folks are involved and active but too many aren’t. When there’s not a war threatening to draft you, it makes a difference.
It was youth that changed America in the 60’s and 70’s but nowadays it’s the old farts with billions that pay for astroturf groups like the Baggers that do.
Time to turn that around…
Oh yeah, nothing motivates someone more that having their ass put on the firing line, or at least the possibility.
This is, in my mind, why we no longer have a draft. It’s easy to be apathetic when there is no threat to one’s safety and freedom. But, there ARE such threats that exist today, just in a different form.
The music business today has killed good music. Content means very little, as long as those almighty dollars keep rolling in.
Here ya go Ad;
Hair – Let the Sunshine In
Perfect pick, KT! Which reminded me of this one…
Joy to the World – Three Dog Night
I think they were a great band.
