VegasBabe’s point about using the term “troll” is well taken. I think one of the problems with HP was/is that things get sort of simplistic–that old “you’re either with us or ‘agin’ us” mentality. If you fell somewhere in the middle–even on a rare issue here or there–you tended to be labelled as “not liberal” (or for the righties, “not conservative”) or worse. There was a lot of pigeon-holing. Wow… If this comes from the religious right, I have to wonder…well, many things. But most of all, how can they call themselves Repubs. I mean–wanting government reimbursement for praying??
Much as I admire the Founding Fathers, I have to say that the “pursuit of happiness” is an odd idea.
Happiness seems to be one of those elusive things that becomes more elusive, the harder you pursue it.
Then, when you give it up and make the happiness of the people around you your priority, happiness sneaks up behind you and moves in.
It’s almost as though she knows I’m trying to escape…
I need to stay strong.
One of the most annoying and most favorite tactics of the right–especially Fox–is to make their point by asking a question: e.g. Rahm Emmanuel, is he in charge? ACORN, corrupt from top to bottom?
They can then say: “We don’t have an agenda! We’re just asking questions! That’s what good journalists do, isn’t it?”
All wide-eyed innocence…
Sigh.
She seems ill equipped to deal with any of that because she still has the classic delusion of the naive: namely, that we can control what happens to us.
The one really memorable moment I had with her was when I caught her in a very blatant and obvious self-contradiction on the SAME thread.
Every time she posted a sanctimonious lecture to the left on “being irresponsible, living in debt, and making foolish decisions,” I re-posted her own words in which she had said that she was “owned body and soul by the banks.” She actually said: “You got me.” After the 4th time I posted her own quotation, she sheepishly gave up and left.
I was actually a little embarrassed to be so pleased at whupping a kid, but she sure had it coming.
What hurts even more is the subtle and not-so-subtle undermining of the President’s efforts to deal with the horrendous mess that was left to his administration. The most glaring example is the one so many of us have mentioned here–the suggestion that Joe Biden resign over the war in Afghanistan. But the more recent “Leaderless” headline and article were just as bad–if not worse.
I’m sure that most of us have noticed that one of the strong points of the right is that they virtually never throw their own under the bus. Consequently, there have been times when they’ve been very effective, even when they were in the minority. We should take note
of that. But Aryanna doesn’t seem to get it. Granted, if a fellow Progressive is involved in something that really seems to cross a line–morally speaking–we have an obligation to speak up. But just taking cheap shots at our leadership–the way AH does–for no other reason than to stir it up–accomplishes nothing but filling her already fat wallet.
Getting into debates with sincere conservatives…much more interesting. Also very rare in the current Coulter-driven state of things.
