The local sheriff in our area is also being investigated by the FBI for the cover up of a beating death at the county jail. The guy is 72 years old, has been in office forever, has a long standing local reputation for corruption and–in spite of the charges against him–is STILL holding office as County Sheriff! For a while, he wasn’t allowed to carry a gun, but he even has that privilege back now. There’s only one local newspaper of any size, and it seems to be terrified of taking him on. Anybody ever see that old B&W movie called “I Was a Fugitive From a Chain Gang”? Late 1930s, but scary as hell.
