Anyway, I had to stop at a grocery and really liked I could park right in front, no other cars near me. I got out, went in and was surprised to see other shoppers. I walked out on the asphalt parking lot and could feel myself sinking into the lot. When I opened the car door and slid in I almost passed out from the heat, I’ve baked pizza in a colder oven. I managed to get the car started and the AC blowing. About fine minutes in the hot sun with sweat pouring off me before I could get into the 90 degree car. During that time I watched as several shoppers came out, pointed and laughed at me as they made their way over to a line of trees under which their cars were parked in the shade. Live and learn. I lived in MD four years and they used to give the temp and humidity at the same time. 98/98 was pretty common. I don’t begrudge people who believe, however it manifests itself. I finally was able to let go of my anger about my life. I’m pretty much on the same page as you. I don’t believe, I am curious about the “Circle” of life and perhaps I can see there is some order there I can’t explain. Regardless that order isn’t some deity who acts like the god of my childhood. I take issue with the “chosen” ones, as I call them, because they keep trying to force feed me their beliefs and rules. I like your analogy about the Mayans. Oh I’m going to piss some folks off. The black bears in northern MN are often cute and interesting but they tear the hell out of campsites and break into cabins. Once they lose they wariness with humans they are pests. Man contributes with sloppy handling of trash and leaving fish guts by the shore, stupid humans. I’ve had them pawing at the door of my cabin three times over the years, nothing different from any other trips. The resort owner down the road has shot several actually breaking into rental cabins. And they are bigger than you think. Thousands of people were shoved into the streets where they or their replacements live today. I have no idea where and how they were absorbed. The scene in WI would easily be repeated here in MN if the newly elected RED Legislature gets their way. My grandmother’s maiden name was Belcher. I believe she is from the family that is your birthtown’s namesake. I would need to do some checking but when my older sister did some genealogy back a long time ago she found out some interesting things. Of note, she was trying to trace “our” family back to the revolution so she could join the DAR – did I mention she’s an ultra neo-con? Dad was out, he’s French Canadian to the max so her hopes hung on the Belchers, a “landed” aristocracy from England. Sad to say it turns out the Belchers of VA happened to take the wrong side of the revolution. They weren’t killed, forced to flee to Canada or back to jolly old England. Instead their VA estates were confiscated, spoils of war, and they were driven into the hostile interior of Kentucky. I did not know if they founded the town or not but it seems odd there is that name when the Belchers went through. Some stayed, the rest moved to southern IN, mining country, where my grandmother was born in 1891 or 1892. So my sister was crushed because she was “banned” from DAR by her “bad blood” and I had a good laugh and took my first steps into anarchy. Great shot of the Belcher plantation.
