Last night on the Other Site, some info came through the forums that she was likely using an in-podium teleprompter (see my comment a few below here). Several of us emailed rachel@msnbc.com with this tip and suggested she follow up on it. If anyone here feels so inclined, go ahead and send your email, too.

Let’s see if I can get this posted if I am more general in mentioning company names this time. I checked the website of the hotel and one of their business partners. There is a very sophisticated system in place for loading and reading speeches from a monitor in the lectern. Someone needs to tell Palin and her supporters that counts as a teleprompter.

You what really breaks my heart about all of this? The Baggers convention is, what, 600 people and a quitter for a guest speaker – and the msm is all over it like flies on shit (pardon my French),

But how many have us have marched with thousands or even hundreds of thousands of others, for peace, for equality, for social and economic justice, for years and years, and what does the msm say about these protests?

Rashomon 6: Ten views of Obama’s budget freeze

The econ guy was Jared Bernstein. I read one of his books and was greatly impressed by it; I’m glad to see he’s on the econ team in the WH. That said, I find it really sad that the WH has lost control of the message already withthe word “freeze”. (Even Rachel didn’t seem to get it, and she’s usually pretty sharp.) It’s seems like a good but complex move, and that doesn’t translate well into sound bites.

After Keith & Rachel’s segments on this topic tonight, I realized that a) calling it a “freeze” seems like a real distortion, typical of the msm 😛 but b) the WH certainly seems like they’re trying to sharpen their message with a blunt pocketknife. Where is George Lakoff when we need him?

nellie, I respect your opinion but I’m not sure how it relates to my concern. If we try to define ourselves solely as the anti-HP, we’ll just back ourselves into a corner.

And it’s not just HP: I checked in today with Open Left, The Nation, DemocracyNow! and they’ll all slamming the Dems & Obama mercilessly. I know there’s a nasty Saturn transit going on, but if things don’t improve I may have to restrict myself to The Daily Show & Colbert Report for news!

But all that is beside the point of my post: It’s the virulent tone of the comments here that are turning my stomach. If we criticize, we should offer an alternative – and descending to troll-type bile (though I admit it’s fun) isn’t the way the go. But I guess that’s just my opinion.

Can you guys handle a dose of cold water? Because, really, the comments here are as bad as the things the trolls post on That Other Site!

I’m in NO way defending AH! (In fact the post about her effect on the Governator’s effect was quite illuminating.) And I’m just as concerned as the rest of you about the effects AH & HP have on fracturing the left, which is the last thing we need.

But if I were coming here for the first time and saw this thread, I’d be so turned off I’d beat a hasty retreat and then scrub my browsing history for good measure!

I’m sure we all need to blow off steam from time to time, but now that we’ve had a good rant, can we figure out a way to combat the great Divisive One without stooping to her (& her trolls’) level? Because you do catch more flies with honey, than with vinegar.
