My Old Kentucky Home

Great piece, Adonai! Beautiful photographs that remind me of our trips “home” to WVA every summer. The drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway was one of my favorite legs of the journey. If I have my history correct, there’s a Clay County Kentucky where my wayward, not so law-abiding members of my family fled to (probably more like ran barefoot to) from the original Clay County, WVA. Thanks for saying “holler,” the correct pronunciation of “hollow.”

And, finally, this: I have shoes older than you. 🙄

An Avatar by Any Other Name

Chris, you are very good! After reading your post (compelling) and your very shiny resume (intimidating) I still cannot discern your gender.

Looking forward to reading Parable of the Crayon, thinking about your questions and commenting more in depth.

By the way, I am not a 6-year old girl.

Thanks for the heads up! Permission granted. Oh, wait…

Oh, adey, what have you wrought? I always knew you could stir a pot. I did not know how well. I love, love, love reading through all you smart people’s posts and reminiscing how it was at HP {{spit}}.

At this time, I will not poof my account over there. Like others here, I enjoy lurking over there and dropping the occasional bon mot. As this planet community grows, I hope we will all remember how we got here, why we got here and consider what we can do to make positive contributions. Judging by the comments here, we’re headed in a delightful direction.

How’s that for some schmaltz? 🙄

Adey, your fabulous post seems to be the perfect good night place. I am so happy you’re here.

Sweet dreams, planet people.

dimplasm! Great to see you.

Lord, there’s a new spit-take corner on my monitor dedicated to you. Right next to adey’s.

Me, too, Adey.

Reminds me of prom night.

Adey, I remember some of my very first timid, hesitant posts. Hume supported me from the start and SO DID YOU. Remember Huff Picks? Once, I got the hourly reward and you referred to me as something like “our little rock star.” I will never forget that. My how things have changed there.

I celebrate your first post here. Rosie is the perfect graphic for you. Love you, girl.

Tenderfoot No More

Wolf! It’s way past my bedtime, but I cannot go without a shout out to you. So glad to see you posting here. Quick story about my always in trouble (in a good way) nephew. Once, when approaching a Girl Scout cookie table at the entrance of a grocery store, he asked if the Girl Scout cookies were made with fresh Girl Scouts. Sweet dreams.

She has a special “spit-take” corner on my monitor. Can’t make myself wipe it down.

Well, adey, you may not be perfect but you’re certainly good enough! Your one-liners are brilliant and always make me laugh.

I’m working on an essay in my head “In Defense of One-Liners.” Not sure when pen will actually hit paper, but the idea is floating around up there. Good to see you here.

Sorry to be off topic, abby. Love your post.

AdLib, now that I know there are PINK mugs and that ovens cost extra, I’d like to change my mind. Pink mug, please.

» Posted By chasethis On February 16, 2011 @ 9:31 am

Congratulations! You are now authorized to pillage my paltry checking account to the tune of $5 a month. Go crazy! I don’t need a mug or a mouse pad, but could use some assistance in the dusting/vacuuming department.

Thanks, Planet people.

Budget, Deficits, the Debt and the lies from the right

Killgore, re: “cuts fairly well.” You’re right. The photo, the headline and the first paragraph was just enough to get my blood boiling. Digging down into the information was a whole different thing and adequately informative. Then, scrolling down to the comments and YIKES! “Beyond left and right” has devolved into “beyond sane.”

A link to Abbyrose’s article would be perfect to post at HP on the main. Alas, I am techno challenged and a weenie. Just made a trek over there and am seeing many many comments about the misleading articles along with some “sure am glad there are some other great sites to go to.” Yes, we can!

Your Valentine’s Day open thread

C’mon, Pocket. You got your gush on real good with this post. I second your emotion.

Same here, BDM. Our hi-fi was a real piece of Magnavox furniture. My darn little sister has it now and it’s too big to hide under my shirt on my way out her door.

We had Nat, Johnny, Mahalia and Tennessee Ernie Ford in heavy rotation growing up. Sweet memories, indeed.

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovers. On this most sacred of love days, it occurs to me that not everyone may be feeling the love. So, to lift the spirits and lighten the hearts of those who have loved and lost, I give you this delightful ditty. It makes me giggle every time I hear it. (Adults only. ;>)

Well, this DID have a link to Cee Lo Green’s “F@#K You.” Maybe I shouldn’t do that?

Truth, I always recognized folks by their avatars rather than their names. It would drive me nuts when people would change their avatars on me–without permission, no less! 🙄
