I love all things British and remember seeing his series along with Tony Robinson’s Time Team series (loved) and Tony’s series on The Worst Jobs in History (brilliant). Tony, of course, played Baldrick on the Britcom Blackadder. Blackadder was/is the best show on telly, IMHO. Just brilliant writing and characters..not to mention Hugh Laurie and, of course, Rowan.

Obviously, I do not agree with his final decisions, yet jesus…this man lived and lost in OUR America and suffered the same disillusionment as we ALL have! He tries to point out a LOT of the dis-ease in this country in that letter. And the things not directly personal to him are the plights of true America.
Had a friend on HP suggest I start my own blog to chronicle my descent or redemption and I did just that. I’m anxious to see how the story turns out! 😉

Signed divorce papers a few weeks ago so I’ve not much time left in the ‘ol Casa Grande here. I’ve tried to line up a bed in a Nashville homeless shelter, but the waiting list is like 3 months long. Scary shit.

It is employed in places where online groups gather for attention. It is well in place on FaceBook with their cutesy, in app games like Farmville and Mafia Wars. It is also the trending model for video games (MMOGs)that have expansive realms with ‘quest and reward’ scenarios…think World of Warcraft, Everquest and the like. They know precisely the technique to lure one into a cycle of games that have players complete mindless tasks for ever decreasing rewards(sometimes increasing). This is the same method casinos use on those dollar games that simply has a player pushing buttons in a hypnotizing orgy of color and pleasure. People will undertake these ‘quests’ for hours upon hours in hopes of getting a ‘pellet.’ People overseas have let their OWN children die of starvation while they play endlessly online to…wait for it…take care of the needs of a VIRTUAL child. (this just happened in Asia)
HP now has employed this insanity and will no doubt become a mecca for those people craving that kind of attention and will now gloss and glaze over reality there, too. The end is nigh….LOL
I have met wonderful people of all faiths and I have met assholes of all faiths. (Once while growing up on the west coast of Florida and having come across a pod of dolphins while sailing, I wanted to have a swim with them. I was told I’d better not because 2 of the dolphins were known trouble makers. When I told them I was shocked that dolphins were mean, the lady said something I;ll never forget…she said..”…dolphins are alot like people, some are just assholes”…) So, I’ve carried that with me everyday of my life.
I have admitted to being an atheist on many occasions, yet upon recent reflection I have to say that I’m not an atheist simply because I’m not sure I can be 100% assured of anything really. I only have my life experience ‘opinions.’

But I have to say I think the darkest and best it ever got was the last series set in WWI. There was something truly special about that last incarnation that really stuck with me. It was engaging and darkly funny until the final episode when Blackadder and the ‘boys’ , went over the top…It was Blackadder’s shining moment of redemption after being such a cad for so many generations. Touching. I’ll never forget that episode. Now I love finding Tony (Baldrick) doing the British Time Team series…right up my alley.
Anyway, I grew up on The Young Ones and own all of the Father Ted series. Whatta’ shame ‘Ted’ died between seasons…Had to love Dougal!
I was surprised no one mentioned Red Dwarf. Silly but really funny at times. Keeping Up Appearances was great…”Minding the lorie, dear…”…Poor Richard….LOL
And recently, The InBetweeners has really made me laugh. It’s a bit R-rated as they are teens and most of the humor is below the belt, but the actors are spot on and totally work great with each other.
Not so much a Britcom is Top Gear which is a show themed on sports cars, but Richard, James and Jeremy honestly make me laugh harder than most shows on the air. Even though it seems ‘geared’ for guys…it honestly is a great show for every age and gender…Not to mention I drool over all of the super elite, mega-expensive super cars they get to toy with…oy…the Aston Martin Vantage…2 please..!…..LOL
I have flirted with the idea of moving to Europe and found out I was no more wanted there than here. There is no panacea. No Utopia. Only what we make of our time here on earth as best we can with what we have…
People here want to be taken care of, yet, scream about the taxes they’d have to pay to have it. They rail against big government and massive ‘socialistic’ spending programs, yet many of them are on Medicaid or other government programs. Stupidity knows no bounds or borders to be sure. Tea Baggers want THEIR country back, they claim. What they’re saying is “I want my lily-white society back from the 1950s where I could feel comfortable and justified in my superiority complex over all other races.” It really does all boil down to that. IMO.
No country has a Utopian plan for all. Someone has to suffer to remind us all how totally barbaric our species is. Romancing the globe is fun to imagine, yet it’s an endeavor borne from fantasy. We all want what we want and no one will ever have it all.
