Time Out for OT – Vol 10

Thank you for at least seeing my point of view. I’ve gotten some really strange feedback here on POV and am profoundly flabbergasted by some emails I’ve gotten here. I truly enjoy my conversations here and hope I can continue speaking with you all. But, …that’s up to the creator here.

Time Out for OT – Vol 8

I know, K…It seems the creamy, emulsified goodness within the national ‘melting pot’ is beginning to separate and clot. Nashville is a big blue beacon in a very bright, red state, yet just having to point that out is remarkable.
Luckily, we’re on the mend.

That’s something I could definitely do,but I have to admit I’m not very savvy on internet marketing and ad revenue generation. I could ‘build’ it, but would they come…? LOL

Well, things are still pretty much the same here. Still scrambling for work opportunities and trying to help those affected by the floods. I wondered where you were. I was hoping you’d clue me into that website idea you had. I’m always open to new ideas.

Thank you so much, CL. I, too, have to admit to having a regional bias in my youth…especially the south in particular. And, don’t get wrong, there are parts of the south where I still refuse to travel to due to their treatment of people. Yet, as I have been here in and around Nashville for the past few years I have learned mightily how wrong a person can be about a place. Nashville really is a very neat, urban city with countless cultural resources. Where else on earth can a person, walk down a sidewalk and visit a Dali exhibition, hang out at a Hard Rock Cafe, enjoy a pint of Guinness while listening to an Irish folk band, stumble into a honky-tonk bar and hear twangy live country music, step over to the auditorium to here the Scorpians or Jimmy Buffett play a concert, take in a pro-football game and then have a 5-star meal at a 4-star hotel? And that just covered 2 city blocks! Sure there are other cities like this, but they are way more over-exposed and expensive than Nashville. I’ve learned to love this city and its people. There are parts I don’t like, yet that goes for every city.
Nashville will thrive after this event I think. It really is amazing to see the massive outpouring of local people helping each other. There are families taking in complete strangers after their homes were destroyed without any questions asked. People are scooping up horses and putting them in their pastures to keep them safe. Just amazing. AND not ONE incident of looting or chaos, yet. Although I am a Yankee by birth, today I am a Nashvillian…LOL~
Your help is so appreciated!

As most of you are aware, Nashville is reeling from the recent massive floods that hit our city over the last weekend. We have lost lives. We have lost property and we are still up to our belts in water. The Cumberland river is receding thankfully, but the damage is done. Opryland, the Country Music Hall of Fame and so many other historic, priceless pieces of music history are extensively damaged. Over the last few days I, and everyone at DreamRow.com have been out doing what we can to help the homeless and the displaced. I am disheartened by the lack of news coverage of this 500 year flood and its destruction. Nashville is a beautiful, modern, culturally diverse city that thrives on dreams and the arts. I’ve read so much negative shit over on HP that it makes me furious. I even read post after post from LIBS that were thrilled that a red, conservative, hillbilly town is suffering. Nashville is the most liberal city in TN. not that that should matter, but to see lefties coldly bashing a southern city just goes to show that no matter what side of the aisle your political beliefs lie, one is capable of exhibiting the exact kind of hatred as the other side. Incredible.
Please, do whatever you can to help those of us here in Music City recover and heal. By texting 90999 to the Red Cross, $10 will go to helping the horrible situation here in Nashville. FEMA is here and the waters are receding, but everything helps.
We are not just country music and cowboy hats here. Without Nashville, rock n roll wouldn’t be what it is, Jimmy Buffett started his career here in 1973, Stevie Wonder and Little Richard among others have homes here. Kieth Urban lost most of his touring gear this week….Nashville will rise from the waves and become a shining Music City once again. But we do need the hand of charity to pull us up from the mud and debris. Thanks all and please continue to visit http://www.dreamrow.com in the weeks and months ahead as we at DreamRow are putting together a charity concert for the cause.

It was an ad to invest in oil platforms and drilling. Oh the irony….

Sweet Moses on the mountain! Can you believe THIS?

Load this page at HuffPo and look at the ad to the above right of the story.

I just can’t believe it.

Keeping with my favorite pet-peeve, commercial advertising, I wanted to point out once again why Libs will always seem to stumble on the solidarity front. This afternoon, I had MSNBC on in the background when I heard the television blurt out a louder-than-a-commercial-should-ever-be spot featuring Dick Morris plugging his new Take Back America 2010 book. The spot went on to tell me about Obama’s attempt to socialize the nation and his radical anti-American agenda. I scrambled for the remote thinking one of my cats had devolved enough to punch in the FOX Noise channel, but no..I was still on MSNBC! So, this goes to show you that the whoring of oneself for ad space is never confined. Does anyone think FOX would ever run a PRO Obama spot on that propaganda machine? I highly doubt it. It reminded me during the presidential election when I swore off HP for good as they promoted anti-Obama books and websites right on page one. Let us all remember that for the most part, books, ads and websites are operated on OPINION only. This means an agenda is usually pinned somewhere therein or thereon. My heart just sinks when I witness this kind of stuff. It’s bad enough that we have to sit through the 5 minute commercial blocks during the ‘news’ only to return for a 30 second news ‘teaser’ only to be thrown back to yet ANOTHER 4-5 minute commercial block. In a dragging economy, there is no commercial advertising recession it seems. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it astounds me how a news segment can berate and belittle Wall St and then gleefully transition into an ad for a financial institution that will ‘help you secure your retirement future’ from yet another murky financial chop-shop. This equation works just as well when the news jumps all over Big Pharma and how greedy, evil they are and then cut to a Cialis or allergy remedy commercial. I sickens me to the point where I’m considering asking my doctor if a letter to the big TV networks is right for me. I’ve experienced rage and fury for more than 4 hours….~smirk~

Me too. Just swamped with emails. I affirms my belief that there will never be a season that isn’t campaign season. Brainwashing costs a lot of money, you know…LOL~

I’m waiting for the specialized Political “tweets” and Facebook campaigns…you mark my word….haha~

» Posted By TheRarestPatriot On April 28, 2010 @ 6:02 pm

Ummmm…I wonder why this issue didn’t present itself when Obama was elected to the Senate? Did no one ‘vet’ him then? Did no one give a damn then? So strange…..

You all are great! Thank you for taking the time to read over my articles over at dreamrow.com and a special thanks to all that left comments there….and here. Those positive vibes really inspire me to do better work and convinces the publisher to consider actually paying me for the effort…LOL~
The goal of Dream Row is to provide a place for kids and pros to get together and work on entertainment education. Our schools have either dropped music, drama and other electives in this genre and kids have nowhere to turn for the truth. You wouldn’t believe the number of people that step off the Greyhound buses here in Nashville with a guitar case full of dreams that slowly get crushed under the weight of reality. We exist to provide a step by step survival guide from the pros on how to make it in the entertainment biz. It’s not easy.
So, thanks again and I hope many of you will make Dream Row a regular pit-stop for some interesting reads.

Hey gang…Just another shameless plug for my work over at DreamRow.com.
I’m actually carrying the front page today it seems. The Glitter n Glam Animal Rescue main feature story is mine as well as the headline story about Jimmy Buffett bringing Margaritaville to Nashville. Had a blast at the Animal Rescue event and interviewed Holly Williams (Hank Williams Jr’s daughter) who was there for the charity fashion show. Boy I hope all this work pays out in the end!…LOL~ Please take a few minutes and give ’em a read and make my publisher happy by leaving a comment at the end of the story. Nice comments help me establish myself with the ‘suits’. Haha~
Thanks everyone….really. http://www.dreamrow.com

Is it ‘quadrillion’ that comes next? Came across one of the scariest numbers I’ve ever seen today. The article referenced and linked to below discusses the ‘derivatives’ market worldwide and that there are over $600 trillion invested currently in these instruments. Just for a laugh I made an educated tally of a good number of the world’s country’s GDPs…and it dwarfs all of them…combined. It’s the largest amount of money invested in any financial instrument worldwide and far over all of the other instruments…combined. If this financial black magic doesn’t begin to have some sunshine spilled upon it…and soon…eventually the house of cars is going to collapse and this planet’s currency system and we can all go back to trading and bartering.

CLIP FROM ARTICLE:

“…the most esoteric derivatives – which also are the most profitable for banks to create and trade – have little economic purpose other than to let investors place financial bets, critics say.

Now, these obscure and largely unregulated securities – more than $600 trillion of which are tucked into investors’ portfolios, according to the Treasury Department – are at the center of the fight over financial reform led by the Obama administration.

“The best that we can do for the American people is to put in place rules that will prevent firms from taking this risk again, make sure we protect the taxpayer, bring derivatives out of the dark – that’s what we can do, ” said Timothy F. Geithner, the Treasury secretary.

I really have to remember to add emoticons in my posts…haha~
Although, I do agree with your last point, I still feel that priorities are just out of whack. The market dictates the value of a product and you’re right in that respect. And, yes, these are just my opinions. With schools closing across the country because of budget hacking, not just inner city kids are being affected. I don’t know, my friend…I certainly didn’t mean to offend. Just expressing a pet peeve. Yet I have to point out that there are countless wealthy athletes passing along a great deal of wealth to their children, too.

..or maybe a Chutes and Ladders League, ay?

Yep, there are talented game players out there. They have no reason to make the money they do. Totally unjustifiable any way you care to slice it. But, as long as there is a society of folks that value brawn over brain…the Gladiator games will continue to suck the ‘blood’ out of the important talent out there. If no one made more money than the President, there’d be a whole new crop of kids trying their best to succeed where it counts. It’s just easier to convince an inner city kid he can be a pro-baller as opposed to a great thinker. IMO~
And I played football and baseball for years.

LOL…loved the joke!

OY! Please to vent!

‘..Our country tis of thee…sweet land of currency…’

GRRRRR~~~~~~~~~

So, as I spend much of my time sitting here pouring over job listings every single hour of every single day…I have the idiot box on in the background to stave off the crushing silence that is my ‘home.’

I have come to notice idiocy, hypocrisy and the continuing underlying truth that America is doomed. I won’t even get into the commercial real estate nose-dive that’s coming or the endless credit default swap analogies the pundits cleverly put into ‘easy to understand’ bites for all of us nod our heads at and exclaim..”..Oh NOW I get it!!…OH,..but wait…we’re still scrood!”…tsk, tsk, tsk…..Bad ‘ol Capitalists…oh well, ..back to my kid’s texting bill…silly children…tsk, tsk, tsk..”

What blows me away is what I’m calling ‘Hypocrommercials’…

Briefly, here’s my rundown:
Countless news organizations with talking heads bemoaning and chastising those bad ‘ol Corporations for swindling gramma’ out of her retirement and savings by packaging time-bomb default swaps and then scurrying off with not only THAT money, but OUR bailout funds, as well…THEN going to a fucking commercial break that features not one but SEVERAL advertisements for…wait for it….FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS!!!!…..Because as ad sponsors…heck…THEY’RE the ones you can trust. If Sam Waterston says it’s cool..then it’s cool…oh…and their ad-money check cleared the bank…onward and upward! Too big to fail my ass…more like check’s too big to NOT cash!

This phenom doesn’t end with just financial institution hypocrisy…oh no…

Watch as the news anchors trash and burn the Big Pharma Lobby Machine especially in regards to the HCR laws…oh yes,…these evil Corporations MUST be stopped, they harangue….!!!
Then I get to sit through 5 minutes of diabetes, PAD, birth control, allergy, depression and dick pill commercials!

Aaaarrrggghhhh!!~~~~~ ..and if that’s not bad enough…the networks seem to time their commercials breaks so that they correspond with their sister networks so flipping does you no good. Seriously, …there has to be focus groups and advertising meetings to coordinate this effort…it’s not ‘by chance’…’You WILL watch our advertisers!”…

Finally, let me say this and be done with it:

Sometimes grown men that play golf, drive race cars, throw footballs, play in a band or -INSERT PROFESSION OF CHOICE HERE-, etc…become even MORE famous by letting their unbridled, prurient, reptilian brain run amok and exhibit male, Type-A personality traits that commonly involves their wee-wees. They are dregs and assholes the lot of them.

I’m SO tired of turning on the news to here about these mouth-breathers every 15 minutes! Our planet’s climate is in flux, 40% of the globe’s population is suffering a fresh water problem, the global financial system’s health is on life support, and a myriad of other urgent news issues abound and I REALLY need to be kept up to date on whether Ben is going to get suspended from a sporting event or whether Tiger likes to be peed on?!

Oh it hurts…take some time and see the ‘Hypocrommercials’ for yourself…you’ll laugh ’til you cry…

…boy…maybe I should consult my doctor as my rage has lasted more than 4 hours…;-)~

Let’s all have a discreet moment of silence as we remember the calm, sedate, almost reserved life of Malcolm McLaren. (brief pause)…The man solely responsible for punk rock in history.

Oh who am I kidding?!?!?!?

Raise a pint and then throw it at some wankers head…he prolly deserved it anyway! Bollocks to the system, down with the man!

Enjoy the spawn of his genius!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeP220xx7Bs

Love or hate it/him…The world became a freer place because of his mad genius.
In the 1980s I actually wandered up to the Sex Pistol’s /PIL’s frontman Johnny Rotten in the Orlando Hard Rock Cafe where he was dedicating a portrait of himself and asked him who the fuck he thought he was….his eyes lifted…he smiled and threw a catsup bottle at my skull. No kidding….One thing about, Johnny people…he NEVER sold out….LMAO~

Goodbye, Malcolm. Wherever you are…rock the boat, brother…rock the boat~~~!
