Displaying 0 To 0 Of 0 Comments New Year’s Day Ushers in Marriage Equality Wow. What an easy trade off: exempting churches from conducting gay marriages. The First Amendment has that covered already. I’ll support that sort of “compromise” all day long. Who freaking cares if same sex couples cannot get married in a church? So what? That is just an expression of ignorance and hatred on the part of the church, why hang with a club that hates you? But the State, the State has no power to deny citizens equal rights. See the 14th amendment for that one! Yippie! If I had not had enough booze last night, I’d be looking for some champagne. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:20 pm DNC Moving to Eliminate the Power of the Super Delegates That is the recipe to guarantee that the best funded, best connected candidate wins the nomination. You allow no room for a dark horse. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 2, 2010 @ 3:42 pm That is the whole point of the SD. They are independent actors. Obama had the backing of the SDs. Good thing, too. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 2, 2010 @ 3:41 pm The SDs do not solve the smoke-filled back room “problem” The SDs ARE the smoke-filled back room. But they only have influence if the race is very close, as it was this last year. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 5:13 pm Um. No. I am not for dumbing down, thanks. The SD concept is perfectly obvious. The Party big wigs want to maintain some ability to throw the nomination one way or another. This last contest was the only one in which they would have had any chance of making a difference. And if it were to keep us from nominating the woman who ran for her life under sniper fire, then I am down with that, » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 5:11 pm I am discussing how the party goes about choosing a nominee. The Electoral College has no more to do with this discussion than does the sex life of Paris Hilton. Eeeewwww. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 5:09 pm You fail to distinguish between the process of selecting a nominee and that of choosing the winner of the general election. Apples and oranges. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 5:07 pm Somebody’s got to do it, dammit. Tell me you at least live in a college town. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:49 pm I think the point is to give them a reason to show at the convention. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:39 pm No, that is not how it works. The various states are given a number of delegates that will be contested, they will be awarded in proportion to the results of the primary or caucus. Additionally, and separately, there are super delegates, who have a vote in the convention. Obama only just had more contested delegates than did Clinton, so he won without the influence of the SDs. But he had a solid advantage in the SDs, and it would be technically possible for Clinton to have bested Obama in the contest for contested delegates, and yet not gain the nomination. And I am OK with that. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:38 pm Thank you for your contribution. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:22 pm I’ll be damned. I finally got the damned graphic to work. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 11:35 am I exist, only to serve. » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:34 am What a buzzkil. Not me, but KKid? » Posted By KevenSeven On January 1, 2010 @ 12:33 am Here on the West Coast I get to say: HNY! » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 11:50 pm I apologize, that I have such trouble learning the argot. I really would appreciate your adding to the FAQs this list of terms and the definitions there to. I understand that a near zero bounce rate is good, but I could not define a bounce rate for a final exam. If you see what I mean. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 11:47 pm I think we have run out of wine. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 10:24 pm Who wants to take book? I say we hit 500 members by May, and 1000 in a year. Remember, I could give a rat’s ass about raw numbers. It is all about how many are participating. But 1000 by next year would be pretty damned groovey. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 8:55 pm My fucking old coot reputation is well earned! As much as AdLib might prefer that I smooth out completely, I don;t think it is going to goddam happen! Welcome aboard, and you are certainly welcome. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 8:50 pm Still, I need to author some new columns….. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 7:29 pm Not a damned chance. I can’t go a day without discussing a recipe. It is a curse. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 7:27 pm Congratulations especially to AdLib, fine work on your part! I cannot believe that we have not hit 200 yet, I certainly have been banging the damned drum! We will get there if I have to recruit my dinner hosts! We can all work to build this to be a significant blog within a year, thanks to all that are a part of this. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 7:13 pm We will all die of alcohol poisoning. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 4:21 pm If you say that it is essential that the government be fixed (without specifying those ills that concern you) in order for democracy to survive, then, yes, you are a wild eyed idealist. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 4:10 pm It is not a perfect world. Come to terms with it. HNY. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 1:28 pm You are not going to lump all pols together are you? Happy NY. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 1:27 pm No, you did it exactly correctly. You do understand, I trust, that on several levels we want to do things this way? 1) It is honest. Those words are not your own, the original author and his publisher have a right to be recognized. 2) It is a legal standard. I do so like it when the law and what is right coincide. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 1:10 pm A happy, and much better new year to all, except the fucking reactionaries, bugger them. Any chance Rush will go to his maker tomorrow? » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 4:44 pm Don’t forget the “no Christian ornaments, but OK to Muslim ornaments on the Wh tree”. That was rich. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 31, 2009 @ 1:15 pm Hey, if you need anyone to speak up for you and the occasional elbow, you know I am here for you. » Posted By KevenSeven On December 30, 2009 @ 11:04 pmComments Posted By KevenSeven
