No Longer Lost: Finding a New Home at Daily Kos and PlanetPOV

I get alerts to all my replies no matter whose post they are on, so you should check your email settings both here and on your computer again as they could go to your Spam Folder, or click under your Comment Box before you submit your comment.

Nirek, as I wrote below, you get email alerts when people reply to your comments if you change your Settings to Allow Email Alerts. At the bottom of each Comment Box, you can click on “Email Alerts” to replies to your comments, but it’s easier just to change your Settings.

Hello monicaangela, and thank you for your kind words.

Just a reminder that The Planet is a voluntary site and we run only on donations. When and if the time comes that we feel the need to expand, we neither have nor want demanding sponsors or hedge funds 😉 financing us, so will have to cross that bridge when we come to it. It would also depend on how many people would choose to stay as regular members.

Personally, I prefer quality over quantity.

Take care, and see you soon.

If I may just point out that not all articles will automatically be published on the Front Page. We have many other categories, and it depends if the subject matter/content is a current issue or not. The more personal subjects would be published under our “Speaker’s Corner” category, but still be accessible from the “Recent Posts” widget on the Front Page. The posts are also loaded automatically to Twitter on our PlanetPOV account.

The Republican Encyclopedia of Hindsight Deals

In German we would say, “Aus der Reihe tanzen”. It means to dance out of line.

It never fails to amaze me that people will repeat failures time and time again thinking that the general public won’t remember or at least not notice. Every word they speak is recorded by someone, and now even more so with all of our advanced technology. It’s either on tape and video, or written down on somebody’s notepad.

Whether this is selective memory, selective amnesia, or just plain old fashioned lying and deceit is up for grabs, but watching the last 5 years of Obama’s presidency, I’d have to go with the latter, and they have developed it to an art form.

For most of us, lying in public with a straight face can prove to be very difficult. For those without a moral compass and lack of conscience, with nothing but revenge and yes hate in their hearts, it’s a piece of cake. What makes it even more disagreeable is that while knocking down the President’s initiatives, they offer none of their own. Except of course the ones that will lead millions more into poverty and desperation for those already on the bottom line while protecting the rich who line their pockets hoping for a plutarchy.

I have both an advantage and a disadvantage watching this from afar, but at least I get to see the bigger picture. The one for a fairer future for Americans that your President envisioned when he took on this thankless job.

All this because you have a black president? You bet it is. Those who claim it isn’t true, either have missed most of the stories about it, or have been residing on Pluto since 2008. All the lame excuses in the world won’t change that fact.

Thanks for the graphic AdLib, you always know how to make me laugh out loud. 😆

See you in my morning.

An Open Letter To Any And All “Conservatives”

Hello Gyp46.

In that concept I agree that they have not attacked your country and therefore are not terrorists except to their own people.

They are exactly what I wrote in my first reply to you, hypocrites who use extreme views to control and scare the population, and yes, I agree, just like the RR in your country except for the cold blooded murder of those who disagree with them. If push came to shove I believe that some fanatics in the RR would go to those lengths too if they thought they could get away with it. Maybe going as far as hanging homosexuals in the streets like they continue to do in Iran. They have a lot of blood on their hands already for bringing their warped non Christian mumbo jumbo to the governments of countries like Uganda.

Once again my response to you above was prompted by similar comments you had made to other members in other posts, so I naturally assumed that your purpose was to defend this murderous scum who think nothing of ending the lives of their own people.

Karzai was a bad leader and a drug addict who did little to improve the oppressed lives of the women and girls, but much for stuffing the pockets of corrupt politicians and tribal leaders. I have no doubt that after the last soldiers leave, it will be back to business as usual for the Taliban, and my heart breaks for the beautiful and innocent people of Afghanistan.

Still back to the point of my first reply, they are not freedom fighters, they are just very bad people who are pushing their very extreme so called religious beliefs on their people.

» Posted By Kalima On June 27, 2014 @ 9:25 pm

I find it a little bewildering that all of your comments here so far have been in defense of the Taliban, and whether or not they deserve the name of terrorists.

In Afghanistan where they torture and kill their own people, behead those who disagree with them, shoot fourteen year old girls in the head, burn schools so that children cannot learn, recruit 8 year olds as suicide bombers, that is exactly what many people in Afghanistan think they are.

Their extreme religious claims are basically fake, a way of controlling the population and keeping them afraid. They are hypocrites who will kill a woman for adultery, while being the most revered and best paying customers in the brothels of La Hore.

Please excuse me if I don’t share your respect for them if the only thing you point out is that they are not on any international list of terrorist organisations. It’s a matter of geography and where you were lucky enough or unlucky enough to be born.

Personally, for all they have done and still are doing against so many Afghans who saw their family members murdered right in front of them even before any foreign soldier put a foot on their soil, they should be. So quibbling about whether or not they are terrorists is at least for me, not that important when it comes down to human rights and the rights of oppressed women and girls.

You refer to them as “soldiers’ of their homeland”, so who were they in the lull after the Russians pulled out and the U.S. moved in in 2001 while still terrorising the population?

Hello kevinbr38, and welcome to The Planet.

I think that it’s worth remembering that the Kochs and the rest of them got very little for the money they threw into the pot in 2012. They lost big time.

The Dems should stick with the important issues because they have enough ammo out there to show the difference between them and the GOPTP.

» Posted By Kalima On June 11, 2014 @ 2:54 pm

In case you hadn’t noticed, this is a Progressive site and yes I share many of the opinions here, but you knew that when you came.

I will go through this thread when I have more time.

I see nothing bs about his questions, it’s what your party is doing and has become.

You answered one question, so please address the others to prove to us that they are worthless.

Yes we will deal with hostility no matter where it comes from from. Please read our Terms of Use. Thank you.

» Posted By Kalima On June 9, 2014 @ 3:15 pm

You told him his questions were bs, to me that’s insulting enough. Even if members disagree, they can do it respectfully, and you didn’t.

» Posted By Kalima On June 9, 2014 @ 3:00 pm

Instead of insulting the author after he wrote a list of questions he would like the answers to, you could answer them honestly without further hostility. This is how The Planet works and how we hope to continue. Nirek’s questions are worthy of honest answers.

D-Day: My Dad and His LSM Bombarding Omaha Beach

Thank you for your understanding Fergie, and having gone through it yourself you know of the guilt and sadness I’m feeling. Last month was already the second anniversary of his passing, and I still haven’t come to terms with his first.

I was holding her hand when my mother died, but too sick to travel for my father. It will probably haunt me for the rest of my life or be eased a little when I get over there to say my goodbye standing over their grave. Until then, I think of it every day.

Thanks again, Fergie, you are very kind.

I don’t think that Murph will mind.

» Posted By Kalima On June 9, 2014 @ 6:53 pm

No, you didn’t Murph, I managed to fuck this up all by myself.

We all have our demons, and that’s one of mine. He would be cross if he knew, but I’m only human.

» Posted By Kalima On June 8, 2014 @ 8:33 pm

Yes, you got me, no great prize. A daughter who couldn’t even be there to hold his hand as he died after all he had done for me. As I said, no great prize.

» Posted By Kalima On June 8, 2014 @ 6:33 pm

They certainly were, Nirek. Mine spent the rest of his years firmly opposed to wars. In everything he did in life, he was a peaceful man who tried to bring people together.

Yes the women left behind were strong and deserve recognition for all they did and all they endured.

Peace to you and yours.

Just like you, I was remembering my father’s D-Day June landing on Gold Beach in Normandy, the beach further north of Omaha beach.

He didn’t say much except that the fighting was fierce and he saw friends die.

By the end of the day, 25,000 British soldiers had landed on Gold. 413 men had been killed or wounded on the beach.

I also remember that the meeting up with American troops that day was impossible and happened much later. He made an American friend there and they kept in touch for many years.

A wonderful tribute to your father that you have remembered so many details. My father was a man of few words about his experience, and I learned not to pressure him to relive what I later felt was a time that haunted him until the day he died two years ago.

All that is left for me to say is, thank you America for coming to Europe’s aid, and for those who sacrificed their lives for us; we will never forget you.

My father eventually returned to Germany to marry a German woman with a two year old child, my mother, and later gave me his name. It was the most precious gift I have ever received and I thank him daily. Thank you, you wonderful Welshman!

Peace to all.

The Once and Future Impeachment of Barack Obama

Actually Murph, you just have to go to your Dashboard, click on the Options on the top left hand side. Click again on Posts, and then choose Add New/+New to start an article here. We will then offer any help to complete it, review and edit it, then publish it. Very simple really and a great way to contribute to our site.

The Death of “A Good Guy With A Gun”

I’m not American and live a long way outside the U.S. borders, so where I live owning firearms is illegal, and the police certainly are there to protect the public.

My “balloon” as you called it, doesn’t exist, and I share your views on the lack of stricter gun control but stop short of calling it a “police state”. You have more freedoms than too many countries around the globe, it’s about time that Americans realised it. You would know if you had one. Ask the Iranians, the Egyptians, the Saudis, the people of Turkey and Burma, or closer to home Venezuela ,Russia and Belarus. How about Pakistan and most of the rest of the stans, and now Thailand. No, America is not a police state and it’s many of your politicians who are the crooks and thieves and the evil.

Welcome to The Planet.

Btw, my comment was tongue-in-cheek.

» Posted By Kalima On June 13, 2014 @ 2:45 am

Do you think it’s because it’s their job to protect the public?
