However, I find that whenever there is a voice of constructive criticism directed at the president/democrats, Huffpost distorts it into a snarky blaming, name-calling issue and puts the most controversial headline – which does not generate thoughtful discussion, but keeps people yelling at each other or defending the president. For example, if Howard Dean expresses a concern, HP will try to twist in a way as to get people deliberately riled up and make people think that Howard Dean is against the president, etc. The “Joe Biden should Resign..” headline was a prime example of this. Joe Biden was not against Obama, he simply had an opinion about one aspect of one issue. This is par for the course in ANY cabinet, yet HP tried to create a scenario that Biden and Obama were campaigning against each other. I don’t think Obama truly believes that he is the same as Bush. It’s possible that Obama is courting Scott Brown to set him up for the health care vote. I find that the cable news stations, namely CNN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS, and some of the networks are too biased and provide the majority of their “information” via pundits who are somewhat dishonest and at the same time, not very intelligent, I live in NYC and I have found that my local NY1 station provides very objective reports about the president or other political goings on. No unsolicited opinions, just the facts. I spent some time on HP yesterday and today, and it’s a very hostile and toxic atmosphere there. The recent headlines seem to be pushing a narrative that the White House knew of the recent bombing attempt, but did nothing about it. And it’s true that expectations were raised quite high, perhaps higher than they should have been. However, I sometimes liken this process to scenarios that many of us have gone through at various points in our lives. For instance, take a scenario of applying for and getting accepted into a top medical or professional school. At first, we experience euphoria with extremely high expectations and endless optimism about the future. We go out and celebrate and gloss over any potential hurdles. Then by the end of the first year into the program, reality has hit as we get bogged down with administrative and other tasks and face some challenges, and we find ourselves depressed, discouraged and pessimistic. We may question our decision, flirt with the idea of quitting, complain, etc…But even as we struggle, progress is being made. If you go back and listen to Obama’s election night speech and his inauguration speech, he did try to scale back expectations by saying that none of his goals would be accomplished easily or quickly, but we were too caught up in the moment. One thing I do believe that Obama himself may have underestimated, was the level of GOP opposition that he would face on practically every issue. I for one greatly underestimated their intention to obstruct at every turn. 2. Lieberman comes out and says he doesn’t support any public option
3. The WH supposedly tells Reid to cut a deal with Lieberman, then WH denied it.
4. Senate is poised to remove the medicare buy-in before the CBO comes in. WHY?
5. Wyden now seems to change his tune about what’s in the bill and seems resigned to not have a public option.
6. Lieberman is out there grinning on every news station, claiming that he is concerned about costs (but the medicare buy-in has not even been scored)!!
7. Lieberman has the audacity to publicly state that he doesn’t support the mecdicare buy-in because Weiner & Dean seemed to happy about it????
8. Obama comes out and claims he’s excited that all his guidelines have been met in the senate bill?
9. Dean comes out and says to “kill the bill” and wait until two years down (when there will be even fewer democrats in the house/senate) to put in the more progressive amendments?
