It’s harder to treat the military like crap than any other public employees due to patriotism and the like. 2.) It’s an all volunteer force. You have to pay such a force better than a drafted one, otherwise they’d simply not join. Especially considering the danger. 3.) Futhermore, most of the insurance premium is paid by employer payroll taxes. However, the government contributes an amount that can be shifted depending on how much a specific company has to pay out. This means that insurance companies have no incentive to not insure high-risk individuals. I quite like this system, except I believe that it hinges on the insurance companies being non-profit. Otherwise, there would many, many problems.
