May all your problems be minor, and all the problems solvable. I’m in and out due to stress. Can’t take any more! » Posted By AlphaBitch On October 16, 2012 @ 4:43 pm The Most Obvious Secret of the Election…Obama is Winning. But won’t his magic underwear help? Greetings all. Started the trip – am in Little Rock, having driven about 600+ miles today, solo and sick. (awww…..) Tomorrow in N-ville to see BFFs and go to David Byrne concert on Wednesday. Uh huh. So……the report so far is: 600+ miles, mostly EAST Texas (where Confederate flags still fly, and what I call “Louisiana”). All that distance, and only TWO Romney signs!! Oh, I remember 2008, when every few feet in this redneck of the woods you saw McCain/Impalin. One was in Outer Dumbf*ck Texas and the other in Jefferson (not named for Thomas, mind you, but Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederacy). Don’t know what to make of it. I think everyone is just sick and tired of the whole damn deal, personally. They’ll still vote, we’ll still vote, but sick of it all is what I see by total lack of signs (BTW – none for Obama, but one bumper sticker and 0 Romoney stickers) Blov and I are smashing our “Thanks for all the jobs you create, Mitt,…..IN CHINA AND INDIA!” on our old Outback and driving through Kentucky and Ohio, NY, PA, VA, VT, ME RI and MA (not in that order – I’m tired of driving) I have the mini-micro netbook tonight and I cross eyed from fatigue (or inbreeding – is it contagious?? I was in EAST Texas). Do we have a VOX tonight? I might make 10 minutes or so ….if the typing becomes too bad, know that I conked out on the keyboard. Adios, muchachos y muchachas. » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 28, 2012 @ 3:29 pm What Would You Like to See From Dems and Obama at the DNC? Hi Sue, and thankee ma’am. You are so sweet and kind. See my elongated response to Funksands above. I am now totally pro-Palestinian. It’s a lost cause, I’m afraid, but I live in the shadow of the Alamo so I’m familiar with those. Maybe I’ll try beading………eating chocolate is all that soothes me at present…..-AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 6, 2012 @ 10:39 am Hi Funkman. I’ve spent the day sulking and pouting. Had a call from a very dear friend who is an Imam. We shared our pure disbelief. So Romney is “advised” by the neo-cons (Dan Senor most notably) and would attack or allow Israel to attack Iran. N-I-C-E. Then we have the current President, whose middle name can’t be spoken, acknowledge that Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. NO, it ISN’T. Just because you say it doesn’t make it so. If I went to the bank, and stated that I had Mitt Romney’s money to play with, would it be true? As Republicans have proven, just saying it doesn’t make it true. The Israelis declared Jerusalem their capitol in 1950, shortly after arriving and displacing the Palestinians. Only two nations ever formally recognized Jerusalem as the capitol; the U.S. has its embassy in Tel Aviv, which is where most are headquartered. Now imagine if Palestinians declared Tel Aviv to be the capitol of Palestine, and moved into the city ruthlessly displacing all the others. Bah. There are two stories I know well: one is the story of Afghanistan. The other is the story of Palestine. I always believed in Israel’s right to exist – but in concert with those who had tended the land while they wandered the world. I’m losing that belief quickly these days. What my friend and I both commented on is how very, very sad it was to – on MONDAY night – see dozens of Arab Americans for Obama, only to watch their hopes dashed because of the need to chase AIPAC. Pam Geller is a witch, a bitch and an abomination on humankind. Siding with those people (and for me it is becoming an us vs. them mentality) speaks volumes about who you are. So that’s my story. People can rationalize all they want about how great the DNC is in all other issues, how inclusive, blah blah blah. But it was Obama himself, from all indications, who demanded this clause be put back into the platform, as it was in 2008. Grow a backbone. In the words of Stephen Bruton, “If you buy an ally (we pay Israel $3B a year), you can treat them like a whore”. There’s something backasswards here. We should own Israel, not the other way around. We pay them to be OUR friend???????? Again, the Planet has always been the source of rational conversation, deep thought, respect for others. I admire all the good work you guys do and have done. For myself, I’ll sit this one out, thank you. May the force be with you, and I mean that. The farce is all I can see at present, so I need a “time out”. -AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 6, 2012 @ 10:38 am Sorry, but the change to the platform has me FURIOUS. The rights of Palestinians are important, too. WTF? I wrote Obama for America and stated no more money, take me off the lists and I will not walk, call, drive any more. I will vote for him, but it is a lesser of two evils for me at this point. Did Obama not hear Deval Patrick? Grow a fucking backbone. Sorry guys, but I am furious and off for a while now until my head reforms….I admire you all, and your passion. My passion just doesn’t match it right now. » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 5, 2012 @ 6:18 pm So….before I dash off to work (having slept in to watch the DNC last night) – what did y’all think of my mayor???? I actually went to his fundraiser (I know his mom) when he ran for City Council – we had breakfast tacos served in a parking lot. Big changes, and big things. Thank you Rosie, thank you Julian and Joaquin. ALMOST makes me proud to be from Texas! » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 5, 2012 @ 5:40 am Weekend Music Thread – Working for a Living And the camera work sucks on this (wow – learn a smooth zoom, folks) but the song is great – Tim O’Brien “Working”.
» Posted By AlphaBitch On September 1, 2012 @ 1:41 pm AB’s fave rock band from the 60s – Eric Burdon and the Animals – We Gotta Get Out of This Place. Did I tell you I once danced as a go-go girl for them and went to eat Freedom Fries with them after the gig? Uh huh. And back then, many pounds lighter and more nimble, I totally rocked.
» Posted By AlphaBitch On September 1, 2012 @ 1:38 pm Why the RNC Convention Proves Romney Should Not Be President In their dreams, Sally. » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 2, 2012 @ 2:19 pm Well, AdLib – hate to break it to them, but size DOES matter. Let’s see – Iowa has a population of just over 3M and Obama drew 10K. Ohio has a population of 11.5 million – about 4 times Iowa – and Romney drew 3K, or less than 1/3 the size of Obama’s crowd. Now I’m no genius in math -unlike Kes’ amazing son -but these numbers are hard to – what was that Palin word? – refudiate??? – AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 2, 2012 @ 8:13 am CL: Saw your comments yesterday (or day before) about “so what Romney is nice to his family” (or something like that). I was sitting with friends earlier in the evening having the same exact conversation about it’s easy to be kind and generous to people who love us, or who are like us, or who share our values and beliefs. But does that mean you are a kind person? I think not. The true test to me is how kind you can be to one so very different from you. It’s why – right after 9/11 (a Guiliani moment there), I rushed out to meet actual living Muslims, not just newspaper stereotypes. And why I spent three years talking folks into taking Muslims (one strike) from Afghanistan (two strikes) into their lives and homes for a year of high school. Ended up being a home run, and made me many, many friends who are staunch conservatives and Republicans and evangelical Christians. I still love them, for opening their hearts and homes to the most unlikely of candidates. They still love those children, and I think they even love me (even though I’m – gasp – a progressive and a Democrat and maybe God forbid a socialist). We are people whose lives were forever changed by these children. And I am most proud of my children. They taught us all very well. So once again, same page. Your friend, Biff. Now send me an email, please, so we can get on with some serious work. – AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 1, 2012 @ 8:52 pm Just saw where Obama spoke to a crowd of 10K in Iowa, while Mittens had 3K in Ohio. Whoop! Ass. Sweet dreams, Planet people. » Posted By AlphaBitch On September 1, 2012 @ 8:43 pm IMHO, the effects of The Newsroom have come to play. In fact, on one of the shows on MSNBC, I saw Steve Kornacki have an honest to God Will McAvoy moment. I rewound it and made the Blov come watch, since we are McAvoyphiles (instead of Limbaughpiles). I really wonder how much of this new found “truth seeking” came about – if any – as the result of Aaron Sorkin’s genius undertaking. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 31, 2012 @ 6:10 pm Republican Support for Natural Disasters Hi Nirek: Mitt doesn’t just HAVE a god complex, his religion allows him to believe he will become god. There is an excellent website called Mormon Think that has been eye opening (eye popping is more apropro) to what LDS do and believe. Oh – and Lies for the Lord? TOTALLY acceptable. Therein lies the problem. Can anyone just imagine the uproar if the candidate was Muslim, and no one could find out much about the Mosque they attended??? Nope, neither could I. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 29, 2012 @ 5:54 am Weekend Music Thread – At the Zoo Breezing through – “rush week” for me. But here’s a cover of the Dylan song, Man Gave Names to All the Animals that I’m pretty sure has not yet been posted…..Tim O’Brien’s version (which is GREAT)
Hope to re-emerge on Thursday. Be safe, Planetarians! EDIT – Oops! Maybe cannot see?? Sorry! » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 19, 2012 @ 1:36 pm Ayn Rand’s Ryan and the Creed of the Elite Not to mention the charming yard signs carried in Austin when the Supremes were deciding who would be leader – er, I mean decider. They mostly had “Bush/Cheney” yard signs plain and simple. The Progs had “Hail the the Thief” and “Brothers Don’t Let Brothers Steal Elections” (but of course they did). Lot’s of fun, creative images. In fact, it was when W. had the face boil (not to be confused with Rush’s anal cysts, though it is easy to do so) and I had a bandage on the same spot on MY face that said “You can’t cover up democracy”. My friend had one that said “I’m BOILing mad!” We laughed ourselves silly, about the only way to get through those next 8 years. – AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 16, 2012 @ 11:28 am Saving Privatizing Ryan…As A Last Desperate Resort CAT!!!! Miss you tons, lady. Sigh. It’s 103 here today – will be all week, probably next week as well. I long for Pagosa…….the waterfall, the river. It is truly heaven to me. Did you stay at the resort? Only way to do it! That way you can soak before it opens – like at dawn (my fave). Dashing off – catch you later, I hope. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 15, 2012 @ 4:17 pm Funk: I’ll buy that man a fondu next time he comes around! -AB » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 13, 2012 @ 3:33 pm Hi K! Why, that so-called misspelled word was NOT an accident! It is pronounced Ah-mare-SEE-ah. It was an attempt to appeal to Latino voters by slightly changing the name of the U.S. Of course, Canada is still “America”. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 13, 2012 @ 5:45 am Sir! Are you challenging Mr. NotsoFineman to a duel? 10 paces it is, then. My money is on you. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 12, 2012 @ 12:13 pm Is the Smart Money on Romney Actually Being Dumb? AdLib: To quote Steve Earle: “No one ever told him that Texas was Mexico”. Ole Turd Blossom hasn’t evolved much, has he? » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 10, 2012 @ 1:25 pm KT: Romney would only drink IPA – IF he drank. I like them, but can drink a beer with the best of the boys! Just don’t give me Budweiser (or as we say here: Buttwiper). I’ll take a Shiner, please. \The analogy to Charles Emerson Winchester (was it the III?) is a good one. Or Thurston Howell and his wife, Lovey. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 9, 2012 @ 4:04 pm Law, AdLib – with what you have just described, it’s a true wonder that he isn’t from Texas! (However, not sure of “Ham” Rove’s origins – aside from Porky Pig, of course) » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 9, 2012 @ 4:01 pm The Sikh That Defined Whiteness in America Khirad: Did you know there is a Sikh community – WELCOMED – in Afghanistan? I didn’t, until last year. They are the most excellent doctors, according to several of the children. And they are welcomed lovingly, in the Islamic Republic of AFG. Huh. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 8, 2012 @ 7:06 am Weekend Music Thread – Romney Roasting Hey FC: Just back home after a long, long day. As I said, it’s not the greatest quality video NOR his best voice. Stephen died a couple of years after this from throat cancer. Still, he is one of the most gifted songwriters in my mind. And we lost a good progressive who wasn’t afraid of calling bullshit bullshit. In front of big Texas good ole boys. Loved that about him. Yes, my “daughter” (aka one of my children from the exchange program) from Damascus, Syria is here now and safe. Got to talk to her today, for the first time. Made a pretty otherwise harsh day much better. Good to hear from you- I”m not here much, either. Busy season at work, trying to do all sorts of volunteer stuff too. It’s how I stay sane in an insane world. See you later. And thanks. Your comments mean much to me. » Posted By AlphaBitch On August 4, 2012 @ 9:27 pm Sorry about the quality, but this is the definitive anti-Mittens anthem in my mind: Stephen Bruton’s “Rich Man’s War”. His anti-Republican rant at the beginning says it all. Filmed by phone at the Saxon Pub in Austin, it’s not the quality that matters – it’s the message: “If you buy an ally, you can treat ’em like a whore. And they’re shakin’ out the suckers, like they ain’t makin’ anymore.” And: “Well they don’t give facts and figures, unless the ones you’re supposed to know.” The chorus: It’s a rich man’s war, but it’s a poor man’s fight. RIP, Stephen.
