Weekend Music Thread-Sunrise Morning and Friends

Ah, Food – this is from 1986. Don’t think I’d like to go back then, no matter what. Yes, I am so very very lucky to have met and come to know some really talented people. And many of them are on the Planet as you know!

» Posted By AlphaBitch On February 2, 2013 @ 7:54 pm

Yessir KT. She’s Irish, in case you hadn’t noticed. A lovely singer and a damn funny woman!

You will have to excuse the 80s hair do and padded shoulders. My friend (yes, I am proud to call her that) Maura O’Connell, singing “If You Love Me” at a festival in Cork. Her voice is spectacular. I don’t think there is any better.

In Remembrance of Bito

Looking at his “motto” = we are one – I can’t help but recall the many acts of loving kindness that Bito shared with so many of us. For us, it was the bond of loving John Prine, and his love for my children from Afghanistan, who think of him as Khaka Bito (especially that Baby Girl).

When I heard the news, I thought “Life sucks. But Bito never did.”

My heart has a big old hole in it for one of life’s true gifts. I’ll get over it in time (see below), but it will take a lot to fill it with the warmth and love that I was lucky to receive from my friend, my “brother”, Bito.

I know we are all grieving, but I have to remind myself how happy I am to have known him at all. The same with all my other dear friends on this site. Together, we ARE one. And here’s a couple of tunes, without videos, that say it all. If you can’t listen to them, try cut and paste. They will stay with you, like the one from Vince Gill.

“Is Heaven Good Enough For You” – Allison Moorer

“Time to Learn” – written by Tim O’Brien, performed by Maura O’Connell

I especially love what Kalima wrote about his energy in our sky at night. ‘Scuse me while I go kiss that sky.

Peace out, brother.

Weekend Music Thread-Social Conscience and Togetherness

HI FC! How the heck are ya? We always mirror each other on music, and you really seem to appreciate “good” music. I’m late these days too – never more so than today – but I’ll wait to hear what you think. Take care!

» Posted By AlphaBitch On January 30, 2013 @ 10:18 am

Thanks, KT. I caught him at the Bluebird Cafe when his first CD was released. I have never understood why he didn’t catch on more – he has amazing talent and has the looks to go with it. Plus his story is interesting – I was with his record producer (friend of a friend) and evidently this guy grew up on the streets of New Orleans, having been kicked out by his dad. Sad story. ….but the sorrow has come out in the talent. Catch him if ever you can…..

City of Immigrants, Steve Earle

Don’t remember if I ever posted this before, but this guy knocked my socks off the first time I saw him. Mike Younger, a singer songwriter, singing “Together”. Better videos of this, but I like this version.

Weekend Music Thread-Tis The Season

Ding ding ding – winner! Way to go, Frennie. I remember when the Blov and I first heard this. Red & the boys gave us a Christmas CD and we were listening, started out singing one song, paused and immediately switched to the next, paused again and jumped back and forth. It took us a while to realize the trick. We thought we had just forgotten the words to the original song. Silly rabbits!

Merry Christmas to my SMS frennie! Don’t let Bito steal that crown, honey girl. You fight for it! You earned it!

I’m too busy but very very happily so, with chirrens from everywhere. The Damas Girl is here, with fiancee. (LOVE HIM) Also have Baby Girl and Babiest Girl; they move in when the Damas Girl leaves. Going to get another sweet girl – the one you’ve never met but who is also very special, also from AFG – pick up in Austin and bring back to San Antonio. AND GOOD NEWS (’tis the season): My last boy has been approved for his visa, and I expect him soon. Oh me oh my. So much to do! But so very very happy to do it.

PS My new son in law to be is also a math whiz. Guess I’m just trying to emulate you, frennie!

Here’s a trivia song for you fellow Planeteers. How many Christmas songs are there in this one simple little ditty??? Name ’em if you claim ’em. – AB

Weekend Music Thread – Put A Smile On Your Face

And for you guys, the double Ks – KT and KQ: Junior Brown “My Wife Thinks You’re Dead”. Texas. ‘Nuff said.

» Posted By AlphaBitch On December 2, 2012 @ 7:30 am

…and on mine! Just to think – I lived in Seattle for a decade, and I have never once heard that ditty. BTW: The “spermterpator” was absolutely hysterical!

Thanks, KQ. Just woke up and found this gem. Now there’s a smile on my face, too!

Weekend Music Thread – Family and Holidays

I was once a Knucklehead, and still talk with a few of the guys regularly. See if you can guess the lyrics to this ditty: That White Christmas Song. When you don’t have time for too many tunes…..

» Posted By AlphaBitch On November 30, 2012 @ 6:19 pm

It’s OK to do this now that it’s after Thanksgiving. The official Christmas anthem of Texas “Merry Christmas from the Family”. Where else can you hear about cigarettes and tampons in a Christmas song? Maybe this can help explain our politics, although this guy is a librul.

Morning Blog

Ah, good! A trivia question about fighting. Although I prefer the term “fisticuff”, in this instance (and letter limitations) it is “fray”. Thank you. Now ask Ad/Kes to send that tiara. I need it by 4PM as we are taking our young guest from Turkey to Lafayette, LA to experience Cajun culture and food. YUM!

Sorry guys, but between work and diplomacy (or Debplomacy) AND Wendy Davis (pledging to help make 48K calls in 48 hours) with BGTX, I’m a busy gal.

Love you all, and am laughing my arse off at Crazypants Cruz. Hold down the fort, and congrats to CL for the 200K comment! Woot! I think she should get the tiara AND a pink MB mug.

Flamingos. Kes doesn’t get to win ALL the glitter!! Also, the most fun I ever had at a party was in Washington state. We played croquet with lawn flamingos as the wickets (is that the right word?). We also had to pick from a box of insane headwear and put on one that had not yet been worn before we could play through. Lots of strange things – and none of it due to psychotropic drugs. Just psychotropic people (thank you John and Sharon).

Thank you for the photos of Kabul in the 1960s. I have seen proof that the country most people thought never got out of the stone age was in fact a fairly modern society, at least in the larger cities. But once the Soviet Union invaded in 1978, the fundies jumped on the “godless” meme. The war and PTSD, coupled with the imposition of religion, PUSHED the larger cities (Herat and Kabul most noticeably) backward. Even then, the south (Kandahar) and the rural areas (villages far away from metro areas) were deeply religious and non-progressive. And a decade later, you got the Taliban. Niiiicccceee.

Gee, if that somehow sounds vaguely familiar….hmmmmm….

Just to let you know: My sparkly one piece leotard should be either red or royal purple. “Sparkles” and “leotard” demand it

OKay, got to look at MB – what a treat!!!

I’m a cat person, but rank high in aggressiveness. I admit to neuroses – fear of flying, suspicion of intent of all spiders, etc – but am open, extroverted and aggressive. Not a perfect match.

LOVED the reveal on Nuttyahoo and Oslo. I even read the comments – “What’s a poor Israeli to do?”. How about this? I believe in Israel’s right to exist. I also believe in Palestinians right to exist in homeland they have lived in for thousands of years while the Jewish population was in diaspora. There are more Palestinians in an area about 1/4 the size of San Antonio than in all San Antonio. Fewer Israelis. OK how’s this – we leave Jerusalem as the International Abrahamic City, open to all. Israelis and Palestinians swap land holdings. Huh? NOT acceptable? Ha ha ha. :Now let’s see who wishes to drive who into the sea…

Kalima, you know how much I love and admire you – especially your ability to find beauty where others see none. However, I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment that a blobfish is cute. I would squeal like a girl if I saw/touched one!

Sent the photos of Burma to the Pup. We have so many Burmese refugees here. He loves and respects them so much. I thought he might enjoy getting to see lovely photos of their home. Thank you for posting those!

See you later, Planetpeeps.

Kudos to Mr. K for kicking some contractor butt! Does Japan/Tokyo have anything akin to a BBB there?? One would think that being shamed would mean a whole lot of bowing and remedial actions. Hang in there!

:NICELY DONE, Sir!

» Posted By AlphaBitch On September 13, 2013 @ 2:33 pm

Echo. Just picked up the kitteh whose gonads are now no-nads. He has turned into Al Capone in an attempt to teach us to never, ever, ever cut his nuts off again. We have promised.

On the Putin/Obama thing: If I were Obama, I would put on my most devious smile and say, “Oh, I promise to take the THREAT of action off the table”, leaving them all to freak out over whether the action itself is included, or just the preliminary threat of action. You know: surprise!

Hope to get to the MB in a few minutes. Have to deal with Al shredding jade plants, ripping up furniture, biting Beto’s neck, etc. Genghis Khan is what we should have named hi…..

So Schneeker is really Botchan? Geez, if I had only known!!!!!

» Posted By AlphaBitch On September 4, 2013 @ 6:45 pm

Well alrighty! Not Ohio, but starts with an “O”. Venturing a well hinted guess – Oregon???

Just tryin’ to best the frennie. “Let’s you and him fight.” I LOVE THAT SAYING AND AM CLAIMING IT FOR MY OWN NOW. Right up there with some truly wonderful sayings by Davy…..

Mary Carr once wrote “Lay the ivories on him, Pokey” which was how her father goaded her into biting her opponent. I was a horrific biter until my aunt got tired of me biting her children, picked up my arm, and bite the forearm hard (no blood). I quit biting shortly thereafter.

Door knob??? I once hit my head on a solid brass door knob in an old 1900s house we had rented. My eye was black for a week! I had no idea that such things made terrific weapons. Wrap one in a sock and swing it at the head of any intruder (from behind, of course) and game over. Fighting tip…..

All is again right with the world! MB is back.

Nixon or Reagan for trivia because I don’t like them. There was a great “Happy Birthday Ronnie Reagan” post by John Fugelsang; one of his commentaries on Viewpoint. Listed ALL the things he did wrong, or those he did that would be slammed by the R/TP of today. Too funny. Ketchup as a vegetable, closing mental health clinics, never wanting to even mention AIDS, vetoing sanctions against S. Africa apartheid all while talking about freedom, union busting the air traffic controllers, etc. etc etc. And Iran Contra, and George HW pardoning all those involved. Ah, how soon we forget! So for that, I guess Nixon or Reagan. Gotta weigh in for that crown.

See you later. Heavy work next two weeks…-AB

Uh…Frennie – that does NOT look like what I have seen of your home state! Have you infiltrated somewhere as part of the SMS????

Going to Costco at 5:30 my time; will be on only for cocktail hour as well. What will we be having??? Cocktails and weiners??

» Posted By AlphaBitch On August 9, 2013 @ 2:29 pm

GRR Frennie! I’m a few days late and an answer short, and this is what I get? Seeing you win the tiara – yet AGAIN??? Oh, I need to get up by 5AM I guess to beat you!

See you tonight on VOX?????
