Injustice in America – A Petri Dish for a Virulent Culture

Will SOMEONE please help me? I have tried for months to track down Don Dixon, the kingpin behind the Texas S&L crash and the resultant crash of regulations, but he has effectively disappeared. SOMEONE please read the Daisy Chain. If you want to talk about where we are today, start with this. And then help me find Dixon.

Weekend Music Thread – TV is a Laugh

Sue: She is a true comedic genius. That show was one of my favorites, and I would buy the whole damn series, if it was out on DVD. The first year was by far the funniest – I love how she got the photo of Anna Nicole in her OB/GYN office!

My favorite TV series that never made DVDs are The Naked Truth, The Chris Isaak Show and Aliens in America. All three were brilliant. Of course, I would have paid PBS (for whom I work) bucks – like $500 – for the series “I’ll Fly Away” – but only for the whole shebang, which NBC (Warren LIttlefield is an idiot) first aired then cancelled. Eejits.

I simply loved “The Naked Truth” with Tea Leoni – one of the most underrated brilliant comedies. Here are various portions that make up the pilot:

A shorter one (3 minutes) with Tom Hanks. Nora is trying to get a job as a respectable journalist…..

Shame on you, Kalima! I spewed coke of cola out my nose at Christie Kremes – the man has obviously had a few too many. As to the Crispy Fried Gingrich Tips – tips of WHAT, might I ask? Now let me work on some….

Weekend Music Thread Special Edition – Create Your Own Song Parody

HA! Who said you’re no good at this? Sally, you were great. I’ve been working on a few and will post them later this weekend. It’s always fun to twist songs. Thanks, AdLib for letting us ruin some music. It’s like Weird Al came to visit……

» Posted By AlphaBitch On April 19, 2012 @ 7:20 pm

No takers? How about “He’s a Sold Man” from the Blues Brothers. surely someone can do those lyrics for good ole’ Mitt Romoney!

Obama To Be Blamed for Statements by Anyone Who Voted For Him

ADLIB! I believe you meant “LUKE is a hack”. I will not let “Tim is a hack” stand, as I loved Tim Russert tremendously and attended the Church of Meet the Press with Tim every Sunday. I mourned the day he died; I slipped into the pool at my gym and cried for an hour. So OK to write Lucky Luke is a hack, but not the late, great Tim Russert. Or at least that’s my POV.

Buy Gravity – PlanetPOV Spring Fundraising & Membership Drive

Drat it all! Those guys beat me to it. I like to be the first. But I guess if I had to lose, losing to KT and MTS ain’t a bad way to go!

You guys do a terrific job, and even though the past six months have left me little to no time to cruise the Planet, I always felt comforted knowing it was still there when I could. Thanks to ALL founders for your hard work and tireless effort to educate and amuse us all!

Morning Blog

Good morning, dear Kalima! Love the penguin photos – how cute is that? And tax breaks for fracking, but not green energy? Welcome to Texas, Britain!

I’ve been far far too busy and will be so it seems until February/March. Then I shall get my life back (or so I tell myself)

Going north to watch one of my girls graduate college and to pick up my daughter from Syria. I’ll try and get her and her fiancee to write a comment on their perspectives on the situation -either in MB or on Khirad’s post. Oh! And my little Poosha, the (technically) orphaned girl from the first year who lives here in town is ALSO graduating from college and has been hired by RACKSPACE. Wow. Just WOW. Maybe she’ll be the first independent Afghan woman millionaire. Wouldn’t that be justice? Out of the Taliban led country, into a life of wealth. Could not be more perfect. Congrats to all my kids. They are all my prides and joys.

Kalima – smells like Romney, does it now??

» Posted By AlphaBitch On November 20, 2012 @ 6:11 pm

It’s hard to believe you are only three, Morning Blog. Why, I can’t remember a time when you weren’t part of my life – forgiving when I was too busy to catch up, informing when I had the time. I celebrate you each and every day with my TWO pink Morning Blog mugs, and sometimes the Blov uses his navy MB mug. But on that, I am right as rain. Never a morning w/o a pink cuppa coffee.

So Happy Birthday, much beloved feature. And tell that pretty lady who feeds you to us each day how very much we appreciate all that she does. Without her, there would be days when I would feel lost. Simply lost.

Much love, AB

Quince? Trivia guess. Oh and BTW: Jerusalem is NOT the capital of Israel. I think the PA should just declare it to be their capital. Let’s see how those words play……saying it doesn’t make it so. Ask Mittens.

Hi dear Kalima. Sorry I haven’t had time to write in such a while. Actually have today off and several things to run and do, but a whole weekend coming to relax, and then a short week next for THANKSgiving. Thanks for Obama’s re-election, thanks for my kids, my friends, my home and my life. All that. I’ll try and write you a note soon – maybe this weekend. Ahh, that sounds so nice…..

» Posted By AlphaBitch On November 15, 2012 @ 10:10 am

Dear Kalima: Thank you for your prayers and thoughts and wishes. They worked!

» Posted By AlphaBitch On November 7, 2012 @ 6:26 am

Kalima! A cold. How very miserable. Get well soon – rest now, chicken soup (pretend Kes made it for you) and I’ll get the hankies washed and pressed

what is scary about the election is that they have made us believe it is close, when I don’t think it is THAT close. It will make it much easier to steal an election than if the widely held belief is that one candidate has a big lead. Close means – could happen legitimately, but could also happen with shady dealings. I hate it when it is described as close – it means they can pull their Rovian tricks like before (Chris Hitchens wrote a fabulous article for Vanity Fair on “Hack the Vote” – how Ohio was stolen in shady dealings for Bush in 2004 and therefore cost Kerry the election. Maybe read it online, when you can) So that is scary to me too – not that Obama won’t win, but that they can do the old switcheroo with watch my right hand, watch my right hand while their left hands switch some lever and – oops! – vote counts change. The bigger the crowds at rallys, the harder that makes this – so everyone turn out when you can. – AB

Hi Kalima. Now we share earthquakes, though mine was so minor as to hardly be counted. Still, it was my first and I hope my last.

We are in Boston and on the 8th floor (top) of our hotel. I never stay above the third, but we had no choice. I decided to tough it out. After a too stressful day (which I have recounted too many times), I was “indisposed” when I felt the room move. I thought it was stress, and that I was preparing to faint while sitting somewhere which would have caused me great embarrassment. After a minute, I called to the Blov and asked what had happened. He replied he had no idea, so I knew he had felt it too and it was not just me.

What a day. I’m ready to be home in my wonderful digs after yesterday! Now it’s just the drive starting Friday through tornadoes and thunderstorms. sigh.

Keep meaning to write you but have so little time. So much to see, so much to do and so many crises to deal with.

After consulting with Miss Meliss here in Music City, our vote for trivia is: FRAHNZ (or France to you English). Thanks Kalima for giving us one we can win!

» Posted By AlphaBitch On October 2, 2012 @ 12:40 pm

Hi Kalima – do me a favor and send me an email w/ your address when you can, and I’ll send some postcards to you. I left your address on the home computer – drat it.

thinking of you, praying for you and your adopted homeland. Hang tight. Wishing you the best.

Trivia? I’ve been through six of those states, and feel I only got about 1/2 way through the US. I’m guessing 12. Or 15, if I can guess twice and cover bases. I’ll look at my map when I get in the car.

Best – AB

Morning, Kalima. Watch your email – I’ll try and get you an update soon.

Trivia (which I look forward to each morning if I can sneak a peek) – Earth?

Take care. Catch up soon – AB

Silly wabbit! A bufflehead is a duck. Not a pretty German girl who grew up in the UK and now lives in Japan! I’ve been lucky enough to see buffleheads, but not the girl – at least not yet.

OK OK – got it! “Mole”. Ta da! Off to work – too hot to walk, so I’ve decided to forego the West Nile Virus available, and just swim this afternoon. Pool is open for another 6 weeks….and then I’m gone to cooler climes!

We will catch up soon – promise.

Hey there buen gente! I have no guess as to trivia, but since Bito mentioned it, now I feel compelled to guess. Since it is “irrational”, it can’t be tornadoes or hurricanes or floods. Nor lightening, so that leaves……thunder???? Again, but a guess.

Prepping for season finale of Newsroom tonight – looking forward to it and to an end to this oppressively hot day. Too hot to sit in front of a computer – don’t know how you do it, Kalima. Hat tip to you.

So thunder it will be for this quiz. Let’s see how I do tomorrow….-AB

Morning K. Sorry the new keyboard is being a naughty “PC” instead of your beloved Macs!

Answer: Violet. Dashing off now – biggest day of the year for me….work wise anyways. Others have been “bigger AND better”. – AB

Hi Kalima and WELCOME BACK!!!! I only had time to get to trivia – I’ll go with an autographed photo of Scalia in a Speedo. That will teach ya not to mess w/ the Supremes, right?

Sorry it’s a post and run, but this is my busy busy week at work. About 12 hours so far today. Less tomorrow, but I’m slammed right now, so lo siento.

Will be back this week and will be vying for that crown……-AB

Oh oh! As a former go-go girl, I know: Louie Louie.

I’ll take the tiara with saffires and emeralds, please.

Also: to let you know: My girl is here, and safe and sound. A huge sigh of relief, and a thank you to everyone who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. Life is good.

Now it’s time to train for that cat nap event……

Kalima! That nasty rug. Send it to me for a scolding, and perhaps a shearing. Now where were your socks w/ treads????

Ah Shakespeare. That will be an easy one for Kes, not for me.

No word yet from Damascus girl; am waiting anxiously. She was to call upon arrival – nothing yet. But she was OUT of Damascus and I am presuming safe…..will call the university today to check. Breathe…breathe….breathe….Likely its a frantic schedule or missed flight or something that happens to us all with regularity. Like today – I have a frantic schedule! So off I go.

Take care of yourself!!! That’s an order, now.

Sigh. Khirad, I can claim Irish and English, but not Scottish. I am however a Scotophile(???).

Of course, I could try hiring you as an employee…..maybe that could work!

Wow – and now to learn you are a wee bit o’Scot, too! Just makes me love you more….
