I want to give a huge thanks to AdLib for creating a safe place to think out loud. Planet POV fosters creative thought and honest conversation. I’ve asked this community to discuss tough, emotionally charged topics in the past and the discussion has always maintained the highest level of respect for differing views while fostering intelligent debate. It’s refreshing to find an online community that cares about every opinion, not just the ones we share.
Although I haven’t posted or even commented in a while, I am glued to the live blogging during the important moments like election nights and Presidential addresses to the nation. I’ll admit at times it feels like Mystery Science Theater 3000 when members of the opposing side occupy the podium, but that’s part of the fun. It reinforces the idea that blogging doesn’t have to be a singular activity and although we are all over the world, we can still share a common experience.
Congrats to choicelady for holding a spot in history. Here’s to the next 200,000 comments! Hopefully some of them will be mine.

The way you describe The Planet is humbling and something we could only hope for when we launched this site. We believed in the proposition that independently minded people can freely express their opinions with each other without all the hostility we see elsewhere as long as there was a consensus that we’re all entitled to respect whether we agree or disagree.

It is kind of a stunner, Kalima. And that doesn’t count all the troll comments we had to pull! So…maybe it’s really 250,000? 😉
Ha! If I remember correctly, no troll comment ever stayed up long enough to get counted once they had scaled the high walls, had had boiling oil poured on them and swam over our crocodile infested moat. 😉

Damn I miss him and KQuark. They have left holes in our firmament that will never be filled. I loved them both, and I guess the holes are how we can look at the stars and hope they are also twinkling up there with them. I hope they somehow know how much we love them still.

I have a feeling that I see bito sometimes in the night sky when a star appears to twinkle, and KQ must be exploring all the stars and planets he loved so much.
Yes, I think that they are watching us and know how much we appreciated and loved them, and how much they are missed by so many.
Nothing ever really fills the void when we lose someone we care about, we just learn to cope without them and maybe live a part of our lives for them.

Congrats to CL. My husband loves his PP mug even though it was sent to ME lol. I agree this is a safe place where you can voice your opinion and even though people may disagree with you, they respond with civility. None of us thinks the same way on everything and I know I have some beliefs that others would not agree with here but, I can write about them, comment about them and the most I will get is a rousing response from someone who may think differently. How else can we learn and make sure our method of thinking is correct without looking at other points of view? We simply cannot. If you put yourself in to the rigidity of thinking you are right all the time, you are bound to fail at some point.
As far as posts go, I like Adlib’s post from that Higher Power. Sometimes humor is the best medicine. And in that same vein, Sally “Watson’s” Sunday Funnies. Who gets a paper anymore? Not me so my Sunday funnies are read right here on this site. And Kalima and her Morning Blog. What a great way to find out what is going on in the world around us without having to peruse several websites? Oh and her daily quiz is challenging as well. Then there is Music Thread, now run by KT. Even though I don’t always post, I always look at the music others have posted and sometimes am taken back, just like I am on Music Channel’s Golden Oldies. One of my favorites that I had long forgotten until I recently heard it, then posted it here is this one:

What seems self-evident is that when you respect others and feel respected, you feel freer to genuinely express your opinions no matter how unpopular they may be with some folks. With the concern of being flamed or attacked non-existent, the debates here seem more substantial than I see just about anywhere else.
So glad you’re here on The Planet and thanks for contributing in a such big way to these 200,000 (and growing) comments!

Being with PPOV has been an outstanding experience for me, and I think for all of us. It is a place where reflection and good conversation occur along with humor and civility. It is our shelter in the storm free from the viciousness within both our civic culture AND public commentary that affects so many other sites.
Without PPOV there would be less reason to remain engaged in honorable discussion. It has offered us all a highly therapeutic means to vent, to learn, to grow, and often to laugh. We also have built great friendships, expanded horizons together, shared our sorrows including the loss of beloved PPOV friends, and created enduring actions we hope will change the world.
Thank you for the honor of the 200,00th comment. Thank you all far more for simply being here on the Planet. I am honored to be part of it all.
Thank you CL for your wonderful tribute to PlanetPOV! As I always say, the Planet is what the people here make it. A place for really thoughtful discussions with very informed people who really make truth and respect top priorities.
What I find interesting is that the sites that encourage bloggers from both sides to engage in conflict actually seem to leave people more locked down in their views than sites like The Planet where members don’t resort to personal conflict to discuss and debate. Due to that, you see people here exploring and questioning both sides when warranted (though admittedly, most insanity takes place in the GOP).
HP wears you down, the folks and discussions at The Planet inspire and energize.
And it’s thanks to you and everyone else it is what it is and we’ve come so far.
