This morning, living mannequin and hollow chocolate bunny model Mitt Romney made the following quote:
“I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it. I’m not concerned about the very rich, they’re doing just fine. I’m concerned about the very heart of America, the 90%, 95% of Americans right now who are struggling and I’ll continue to take that message across the nation. […]
“You can focus on the rich, that’s not my focus. You can focus on the very poor, that’s not my focus. My focus is on middle-income Americans.”
So, to the 47 million Americans living in poverty, Mitt Romney says, “Seeya, wouldn’t wanna be-ya!” Apparently, Mitt Romney, who has spent a great deal of time bemoaning how President Obama is trying to divide the country by asking the top 1% to pay the same tax rate as those that receive a fraction of their income, has decided that pushing off our very poor people into the sea on an ice floe is bringing this country together…by waving goodbye to them.
Romney, a Mormon who claims to believe in Jesus as his savior (as well as that God lives on planet Kolub), is no doubt recalling that famous quote by Jesus, “The meek shall inherit my ass.”
Apparently, Romney believes that people who scrape by on welfare and food stamps are doing just as great as the wealthy and need no more help (though the wealthy need help with more tax breaks). In fact, his budget and support for the Ryan budget would burden the poor with higher taxes and an increase of thousands in health care costs (until Medicare is destroyed, then they would be uninsured). He’s not unconcerned with the poor, he’s concerned they’ve got more than they ought to have!
And as for those in the Middle Class who are slipping into poverty, you better enjoy having concern come your way from Romney while you can!
In response to the recent words of this Christ-revering/poor-hating Republican (is there any other kind?), Jesus contacted The Planet and asked if we’d publish the following blog for him:
Hope you’re all having a great 2012 so far! All is great my way…taking care of business and finding a little time for fun (been playing a lot of Angry Birds with Steve Jobs).
So I wake up this morning, take a jog across the lake then chill out for a bit and I catch this clip of Mitt Romney saying that he isn’t concerned about the poor. At the same time he’s said he believes in me and my teachings. That’s kind of like saying that you’re a vegetarian but you love eating hamburgers or that you love hamburgers but eat at McDonalds. One of these things, doesn’t belong, you know what I mean?
Just to be clear, my whole raison d’etre is about love…towards your fellow human beings, not towards money, material things or the new Trojan Twister. I’ve talked about how those who are possessed by greed and dedicate their lives to it have as much chance getting onto Heaven as a camel walking through the eye of a needle…and Donald Trump paying to create a giant needle with an eye big enough to accommodate the passage of a fleet of Hummer limos with a herd of camels inside totally misses the point.
I’m pretty sure that I said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself”, not “Love only those with a median household income range between $35,000 and $75,000”.
Now, Mitt Romney has responded by saying that his point was that we have social programs for the poor and if there’s a problem with them, he would fix them, so that’s why he’s not concerned about the very poor.
That’s like saying that as long as you’ve tied your dog to the roof of your car while you’re speeding down the highway, he’s secure so no need to be concerned about him unless the rope becomes loose.
I’m no stranger to seeing someone say one thing then do something that is the exact opposite (even when you invite him to supper!) but once a contradictory truth comes out publicly, such people should just admit they don’t follow my teachings instead of acting holier than thou (which is a tough act around here).
They should be constantly grateful for the material wealth they may have the good fortune to possess and whenever thinking of it, should be think about those who don’t have comfort and wealth with care and kindness because it easily could have been the other way around. And if it was, wouldn’t they want their potential leader to care about their lives and struggles…wouldn’t they like to hear from those with power and money that there was concern and a desire to help?
Anyway, I just wanted to remind folks that when you ask yourselves, WWID (What Would I Do?), having compassion for the poor is still at the top of the list while taking from them to give more to those better off is at the top of someone else’s “hot list.”
Peace out!
Wow, I am really impressed by the people’s outrage against Komen, making them reverse their decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood. Power to the people, indeed! It warms my heart and gives me hope.
It was a nakedly political move which is insane for any major charity to employ. And the campaign of deceit and BS which followed only solidified the fact that this was a clearly RW move. I’m glad they’ve reversed themselves but they’ve permanently damaged themselves and trust in them.
I will never again donate a penny to them or buy any of their branded products because they still have rabid PP haters as execs and after this failure, I don’t doubt they will be looking for ways in the future to attack PP.
I agree 100%. I meant to post this on OT, sorry about that. (in the middle of my first cup of coffee for the day) Komen surely has damaged it’s own image. They’ve revealed their true colors. It just gave me a great feeling to see that pressure by “we the people,” worked, at least for the time being.
If you don’t like gay marriage. Don’t get one.
If you don’t like abortions. Don’t get one.
If you don’t like drugs. Don’t take them.
If you don’t like booze. Don’t drink it.
If you don’t like your rights taken away. Don’t take others away.
Nirek, that’s a lot of Don’ts I can Do with! 😉
Sally, I can live with them , too.
VERY cool!
Thank you CL. All that I read from you and others here is excellent.
So concise and full of common sense, Nirek!
Live and let live instead of live and make others live the way you think they should.
Thanks Adlib, we could add unions and several others.
Looks like Jesus was chatting with Obama as well:
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/02/at-prayer-breakfast-obama-ties-economic-message-to-christian-values
Wince – he misquoted. I LOVE that he said it, but it reads:
“From those to whom much is given, much is required.”
Oh well – I don’t want him for Pope. It is tres cool he said it since that’s one of the lines I use in lobbying the conservative christocrats in the legislature: “stop gouging the poor and rewarding the rich, you suckers! Jesus SAID so!”
LOVE this president!
I’m sure if he knew all you do, the feeling would be mutual!
Isn’t it ironic that the God-fearing Republicans, despite their claims to represent the Christian Right and their efforts to proclaim Christianity as the offical religion of America, seem to be more out of touch with God’s message than Everybody Else? Perhaps it is because they lack the “irony gene.” (begin Homer Simpson sarcasm voice) Surely it is not the Republicans’ job to minister to the poor … that’s the Church’s job (end Homer Simpson sarcasm voice). Hence the faith-based initiatives.
When the poor get sick – very sick – they go the free clinic – the one that’s still in business, anyway. Otherwise, they have to self-diagnose, and self-medicate. That’s what I had to do thie year. I had a horrible chest cold. Or perhaps it was pneumonia. I didn’t know because I couldn’t afford to pay a doctor to diagnose me. All I knew was I was drowning in phlegm, coughing my guts out, and unable to sleep because that was when the symptoms were at their worst. By the way, “free clinic” is a misnomer. It isn’t really free, never was.
Interesting that Romney has nothing to say about the very old. I guess it’s because there is rich-old, and then there is poor-old. This is when life is at its most Dickensian. In other words, the middle class vanishes. If you are rich-old, you are pretty much ok, but if you were more or less middle class while you were young, by the time you are old, you are POOR, dude. Living off whatever is left. No doubt about it. Silas Stingy. But you can still vote. If Romney knows this, he’s probably freaking terrified of us. That’s why he hasn’t said anything. Or he thinks we are all idiots, hence the lame attack ads, all based on false premises. In any case, screw Roomney and screw the entire Republican Party. They’re in it for nobody but themselves.

Almost forgot: Praise Jesus! 😉
jj – So sorry you had to go through that hell! Glad you’re better!
Choicelady nailed these people for what they are:
And what you say about people in the middle class is sadly true, many are living on a knife’s edge, with little savings and one or two paychecks away from descending into financial disaster.
It’s no secret that there has been a one way migration from the middle class to poverty, people are not moving upward so for a number of people who were middle class ten years ago but have found themselves out of work and in difficult times, today, the GOP says they’re not concerned about you.
How insane is this? These greedy reptiles use an attack line of “dividing the country” against Obama when he simply calls for the wealthy to pay their fair share and meanwhile, they matter-of-factly tell 47 million Americans living in tough times that they are invisible and of no concern to them or their potential President.
We have to defeat them across the board this year so we don’t have to be concerned about them.
jj – not to be pushy since I do NOT know where you live, but please, please go to:
http://www.healthcare.gov.
Fill in the easy queries – state, needs, etc., and it will direct you to what is available in low cost health coverage. No matter if you’re living in a scum-sucking we-hate-health-reform state, there may well be a federal outlet for you that you CAN afford now.
And if your ‘free’ clinics are not free, there may be a fraud or some kind of means testing. If it’s federally funded, you kinda might want to have someone check that out. Most free clinics ARE free!
Hope you’re better and recovering. There is a lot of supernasty stuff floating around. Be well and stay in touch with us! We’ll worry about you!
Heh! Thanks for this!
My pleasure AdLib. “Shut up “big nose!”
“Well, he has got a big nose.”
😆 this never gets old.
So true KQ, especially considering the GOP’s attitude to the poor and suffering. It’s such a classic scene!
It’s a delicious variant on the joke about the road outside the coloseum lined with people dying on crosses as the gladiators, soldiers, beautiful women on litters, musicians and acrobats, jugglers, and flower-strewing maidens all stream by ahead of the Emperor. As the Emperor draws near, he spots one man still alive whose lips are moving. He commands his servants to take a ladder up and see what the man is saying. When they get up there they hear the man singing:
“I-I-I-I love a parade…”
😉 😉 😉
Dear JC,
I know you are awfully busy traveling these days, but should you find time in the next few weeks, I would like to ask you a favour.
Starting in the U.S then moving across the pond, and around this earth of ours, could you please tattoo the words below on every forehead of the GOPTP, the Tories, and anyone else who scoffs at the poor and yet use your name in vain while pretending to follow your teachings. Knowing the powers you possess, and the people you know, make sure that they can never be removed. I’ll say my prayers twice a night for a month, I promise. Thanks a bunch. Say Hi to your Dad for me.
KK
Acts 20:35 ESV /
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Kalima and AdLib – especially AdLib: You both are better theologians and far more passionate spiritual people than Pat Robertson, Jack Van Impe, James Hagee, and all the gaggle of “televangelists” ever dreamed of being.
These birds are NOT Christians. They are Old Testamentarians for whom Jesus is just the “get out of jail free” card. They invoke JC’s name to hope they’ll fly right up to Heaven. I suspect they’re in for a major surprise should that be what happens “after”.
Thanks for JC’s letter, AdLib. I just want to know though – when JC plays Angry Birds with Steve Jobs – has he substituted Dominionist Christians and Sap Sucking Mormons for the birds? It’d be a new twist to the game. He should patent it. Though where they’d send the royalties is a puzzle.
Anyway, AdLib, we knew you were thick with God, but knowing you’re on first name basis with JC just increases your cred! And Kalima – JC will be SO glad you understand his message! So many who profess, do not.
Have a great day, y’all! Just be sure you don’t text and drive…
CL, coming from you, that is quite a compliment indeed! Thank you!
I love your idea for updating Angry Birds, I think it would be a huge hit!
Hey Kalima – I think JC would be very pleased that you’re sending that message around The Planet right now.
I think there is a mark already on those who exploit the power of religion to satisfy their own greed for money and power and it sure seems to me that people are seeing it better and better nowadays.
As for tattooing wisdom on the foreheads of such people, you nead a clean dry surface to be able to tattoo and these guys are so slimy, it would just slide off of them like everything else of true value.
Reflections on a crazy day in politics. In the time I’ve been blogging about politics I have never seen a day this bad on political blogs for a politician, including the whole “Goddamn America” Rev Wright thing. At least then Obama supporters were mightily defending Obama. But today I saw very few people defend Romney. Even Michele Malkin gave said his comments were a ‘facepalm’ to conservatives. The problem was Romney’s comments angered progressives and conservatives equally.
EVERYONE piled on Romney today including his NRO supporters. It was fascinating to see conservatives have what almost seems to be a last straw moment with Romney. DailyKOS had two stories posting quotes from the Free Republic and Red State sites but the hits did not end there. Conservative sites like Hot Air and even NRO were all over Romney’s gaffe and then endorsement of the social safety net. Of course the progressive sites, DailyKOS, ThinkProgress, Bob Cesca’s Blog, The People’s View save for AOLHP which was still all over Obama even publishing a ridiculous column by Mathew Dowd calling Obama unelectable, but that’s besides the point. The big thing Obama had going for him in his “bitter” and “Wright” controversies was that he had a steadfast base of support that defended him. Obviously Romney does not have that kind of passionate support coming from any quarter.
DailyKOS cross posts.

With Romney it’s like a alternate universe version of the show “Everyone Loves Raymond” titled ‘Everyone Hates Romney’.
You can’t please all the people all the time, and when you clumsily try, you please no one.
It’s as if his vapid say-anythingness actually jumped the shark.
So true and worse for Romney his cynical disingenuous nature is so apparent.
Honestly I read some of the comments on conservative blogs and what Dems say about Romney is mild in comparison. I mean they are absolutely ruthless. My favorite was a Republican who said that ‘Romney was a combination of all the worse characteristics of every bad presidential candidate. The principles and excitement of Bob Dole and GHWB, the flip flops Kerry, the arrogance and foul temperament of McCain, the stiffness of Gore and a gaffe machine like Biden.’ Then he called him ‘Willard “The Rat” Mittens Romney’. I mean I have never seen a Dem come close to attacking Romney that viciously.
KQ, I suggest we save those quotes for future use in the general election.
Right now the GOP is imploding and I’m sitting back and enjoying it.
Good idea. Because we know on the left once Romney is the nominee they will eventually circle the wagons around him. You can never underestimate the hypocritical nature of those on the right. They would back a ham sandwich to be president just to beat Obama.
Very well said, KQ! Romney’s only real base is in the 1% so that means that even a majority of Repubs are not committed supporters.
Romney has exposed himself as having no core, you can’t catch a fishing hook in the mouth of a fish made of jello. There is no substance in the man that anyone can hold onto so though there may be support for Romney, it will never be strong or enthusiastic.
Due to that and Romney’s leaping from position to opposite position, he is vulnerable to being hammered from the right or left…or both at the same time as we’re seeing on this issue.
Romney is on nobody’s team and has no convictions other than trying to buy the Presidency for himself just for his own gratification.
AdLib, as always a most excellent piece!
In fairness, however, it should be said that Mormons have a rather different version of Jesus — not born of any specially blessed virgin according to Hebraic prophesy, but from ordinary copulation between Mary and the Father God of Earth known as Adam (yes, the original).
What the Mother God of Earth known as Eve (yes, the original) thought of it I have no idea. Perhaps she regarded Mary as a sister wife.
For Mormons, this Jesus died for no one’s sins — you’re on your own on that.
But they do believe one way to have one’s sins absolved is through charity to the poor and. at minimum, Mormons are encouraged to fast twice a month and use the money they would have spent on those meals for charity. They are also strongly encouraged to put time into helping the poor, so it’s not just buying absolution with charitable donations.
Somehow, I doubt Mitt is all that observant.
Indeed. And while I hate to feed into bias based on religion like we would accuse the Evangelicals, and while I would say it’s a form of Christianity (inasmuch the Bahá’í faith is a form of Islam, kinda sorta, …not really), when Mitt talks up Jesus and all of that, he’s also being crassly disingenuous and self-serving about the nature of Jesus and God in Mormon theology.
When talking of Muslims, we often hear the dreaded word taqiyyah. Well, I see a bit of dissimulation actually taking place with Mitt.
Here, this will totally not clear anything up about Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden (which was in Missouri, silly!)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_and_Eve_%28LDS_Church%29#cite_note-Millet-1
Listen. Bigotry against Mormons is wrong, and ‘cult’ is a bit strong of a word, but on the other hand, they aren’t just another sect of Christianity with additional quirky beliefs. Some of their beliefs are quite different from traditional foundational beliefs of Christians.
I mean, for a lot of conservative Christians, the very fact they don’t believe in the Trinity is a big no-no heterodoxy in itself which disqualifies them from any ecumenical fellowship.
It’s my completely biased opinion but I think every religion has sects that are cult like.
I try to be accepting but there is something just weird about Mormonism to me personally, maybe it’s the latter day saints thing. Even though I was raised RC and Christian religions should seem less strange to me I find Mormonism much stranger than Easter, Native, Islamic religions by far.
One thing I really don’t like about the Mormon religion is that you can be posthumously baptize you into Mormonism obviously against your wishes. That is straight up freaky and wrong.
http://onfaith.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/undergod/2008/11/mormons_jews_contend_for_souls.html
I think you can respect other people’s faith in their religion by not ridiculing them or what they believe while still being reasoned about the tenets of a religion and discussing (sometimes seriously, some times humorously) why you have issues with it.
After all, most standup comics rag on the flaws of their own religion yet many of them still follow them.
For me, when it comes to religions that are created by a single person, such as Mormonism or Scientology, they are necessarily embedded with idiosyncrasies that stem from the person who created it that are hard for most non-believers to reconcile.
There are universal themes and beliefs in many religions such as immaculate conception, death and rebirth, heaven for believers but the religions that are created by individuals share some things with other religions but also veer off in unique directions that are more reflective of their originator.
There are so many idiosyncratic aspects of Mormonism that defy traditional religion, let alone reason.
Baptizing the dead, magic underwear that protects the wearer from harm, God lives on planet Kolub as a human type being and the blatant racism in the original Book of Mormon that black people are black as a punishment from God for being sinful.
There are no parallels to such things in most religions aside from Scientology (though even Scientology didn’t institutionalize racism and antisemitism as the Mormon religion did) so they naturally come across as odd to those who aren’t Mormons.
While I do openly express my disbelief in Mormonism, there’s no intention to disrespect those who believe in it. I just disagree with believers but I do recognize that in every religion, there are people who lead caring and generous lives and their faith in their religion is part of the reason.
I think there are two serious issues with Romney being Mormon.
First is that he was a party to a religion that was overtly racist until he was 32 years of age. Not saying that he’s a racist but he was part of a racist organization well into his adult life.
Second he ‘baptized’ his father-in-law posthumously who was a self proclaimed atheist. This to me shows he has no respect for other people’s beliefs.
There is a little fuzzyness about the second claim grant you because Mormons are so secret and Romney is so opaque about his past. But if it is true every American should know this.
I’m sorry, I find many issues in the Mormon religion that I cannot understand. But, they are free to believe as such. You will get a different view of the religion if you live in UT (Sundance is not a real UT). You will see the control it has on the people. Yes, they do believe in caring for the poor. BUT, only the Mormon poor. Yes they fast, to cleanse the system, and use the money saved for the poor. That money is giving to the Ward for them to distribute to those they find “fit” of the need. They have food storage and are to only share, when the end comes, with fellow Mormons. They are instructed to use all means to not give to others once the big one hits. Maybe this explains Romney better. I guess maybe taking care of your own is acceptable but I believe charity should be given where needed regardless if they believe or don’t.
I think, for the most part, that religion doesn’t corrupt men, rather, men corrupt religion.
Cheers Weirdwriter and thanks for the details. As you and Khirad have described, one thing that Mormons are supposed to be is concerned about the very poor so Romney’s words expose that he is willing to even betray his own religion to get elected.
He lies constantly, betrays his religion, betrays his previously sworn principles, has no empathy for other human beings…that’s the Republican version of being “qualified” to be President?
AdLib, sorry for the mix up. It is a 100 million trust fund Romney set up for his sons. But, here is the article by David Cay Johnson wrote about it.
http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/01/31/column-dcjohnston-romney-returns-idINDEE80U0HG20120131
No worries, Sally. Thanks for the link!
Actually the way Ed talked about it I had the same impression you did.
They do realize they’re saying this out loud, on the record, right?
Rick Santorum Tells Sick Kid Market Should Should Set Drug Prices
http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/rick-santorum-tells-sick-kid-market-set-drug-004745384–abc-news.html
This is a pattern which actually cuts through the spin of Republicans on anything connected to compassion.
Remember the woman at one of the most recent debates who stood up and said she was unemployed and asked how she could get affordable health care from them? Then they answered, “Just elect me and you’ll have a job and health care! And a pony!”
I think the plain truth is that you can’t successfully spin contempt for the majority of Americans.
The GOP has become a cult of greed and hate, they are now outside of the norm and it’s like trying to put a kid’s Halloween mask on King Kong, it just can’t cover up what creatures they have become.
Comparing the iPad market to the drug market is beyond asinine.
One of these days someone who isn’t an MSM simpleton is going to point out to the mystical mouth breathers that the market cannot/shouldn’t set drug prices, because unlike someone buying an Ipad, the buyer of medication cannot decide to wait for a better price later.
A captive buyer does not a free market make.
Rubes. Stupid stupid rubes.
You mean I won’t literally die without an iPad?
One thing about Mitt that no one is talking about. He claims he lowered taxes in Mass when he was governor? He sure did and then made up for the lost revenue by raising fees. A perfect way to run the shell game. There are no taxes under that walnut shell but the other one sure has new fees. It is mentioned in my article on Mitt here. I hope Obama knows it.
You forgot to link to your article so allow me:
http://planetpov.com/2012/01/03/coalition-of-church-and-state-willard-mitt-romney/
We discussed here in comments and Vox Populi how Romney’s returns would be powerful tools to expose him and we were right. Infact, I am convinced that there are some really damaging things in his 2009 and 2008 returns which is why he’s so adamant against releasing them. Obama and the Dems should keep hammering him on them.
I think that a campaign that touches the bases of Romney as the out-of-touch, greedy 1%er AND a man that is an untrustworthy liar will doom his campaign.
So, as I’m sure the Obama campaign is doing, this claim about not raising taxes should be added to the already-long list of lies and deceit perpetrated upon the public by the mercenary and unprincipled, Mitt Romney.
Adlib
I agree. Ploufe should be thinking about a document that can be put on the OFA website that calls out all of his hypocrisies and make sure they can update it as they go. THERE is something in those returns and I think it is either UBS or Fannie/Freddie. I posted a link here yesterday or the day before in OT with the speculation. I also started a How Mitt made his money but forgot about it. I am now going to finish it – probably publish it next week.
Very cool, Sue!. I’m looking forward to reading it!
I think Mitt’s tax returns will be the main documents in bringing him down in the GE, I too am convinced of that.
However, I think he will stonewall till the end on his 2009 tax returns because there’s something disastrous for him in them.
Thinking that way, a powerful meme to promote strongly is, “Mitt is hiding something terrible in his 2008 or 2009 tax returns!” Building up that meme will help to put the pressure on him to either release them or prove the meme is right by refusing.
AdLib, did you watch Lawrence O’Donnell tonight? They discussed how Romney had worked the system to get 100 million dollars into each his kids accounts without paying very much in taxes. I understood it like Lawrence that you could give $10,000 a year to a child and not pay taxes but Romney got around it. If you didn’t see it, you should. Another thing to add to Romney’s list.
Oh, I guess that 10,000 a yr was changed to 13,000 a yr. Gee, I was never in the position to give or receive.
Hey Sally, yes I did see it and apparently, he used the fact that his pay from Bain is classified as carried interest to defy the intent of the law through a loophole, just signing over a transfer of assets to his kids instead of directly giving it to them. So, the intent of the law is broken by Romney, that is what should be the focus.
The pile of ammunition there is against that weasel is already huge but it grows almost exponentially each day. Now, add, “I’m not concerned about the very poor” to his baggage.
We are going to take him apart this year, glad the GOP Elite want to put all their eggs in his shredded basket.
AdLib, I had to correct my original comment to say he gave each of his kids 100 million! Wow! Anyway, I guess David Johnson is going through Romney’s tax returns with a fine comb. Going to dig up a lot, I am sure. Stuff the rest of us can’t even imagine. This man will not be able to relate to the needs of the people that are so far beneath his earning rate. Well, people that work for their earnings not live off their earnings from interest their money earns.
Actually, I think it’s a $100 million trust that’s shared by all of them. They currently get $1 million per year just on the interest.
So he and his family know what they’re talking about when he says he isn’t concerned about the very poor.
A few details mentioned on Rachel Maddow’s show tonight on Mitt Romney who’s ready to help fix the safety net for the poor if necessary:
Mitt Romney supports the Ryan budget in which almost 2/3 of cuts come from programs that serve the poor:
a. $2 trillion in cuts to Medicaid
b. $127 billion in cuts to food stamps
c. $6,000 more expense to seniors per year to pay for Medicare
Meanwhile, in Romney’s own budget, there is an additional tens of billions in cuts to Medicaid.
So, if Romney is elected President, he will make sure the safety nets fall apart so he can repair them…then take them apart…
Great points but the real irony is all these cuts would not even help the deficit because Romney would also increase the deficit with other policies. Romney would raise taxes on the working classes and gives himself a tax break which would blow a $600 billion hole in the budget by 2014 and he would increase the size of the military by 100,000 that would cost $150 over 5 years.
Romney’s budget would raise taxes on the poor by 60% while people making over $1 million would receive a 15% tax cut.
Add that to your excellent point that Romney’s budget would blow a massive hole in the budget and pump up the deficit and you have an untenable and tortured logic trying to wallpaper over what is simply an attempt to transfer more wealth from the 99% to the wealthy…IOW, more and genuine class warfare by the 1% who Romney so perfectly embodies.
They try to camouflage their agenda but now, it’s just no longer possible.
Talk about levels of irony.
And seeing as the context is within that of a discourse of a king, this is not merely a ‘let the churches handle charity’ lesson, but one for society as a whole.
Or so a blog I just read said.
KQ I read that article you posted about the Gingriches. Good Golly Miss Molly if she is not a Stepford then she is definitely the Head HandMaiden.
Khirad I did it again I think it is the K’s but I gave KQ credit for the article you posted on Callista
Khirad, are those quotations seriously from the Book of Mormon? The first one especially is really kind of amazingly ironic.
I’ve never been able to make it through the Book of Mormom, to be honest. It’s a tough slog.
It’s on my bookshelf, but my lord. Every time I opened up you could tell they were trying a little too hard. Also, why did they feel the need to talk like 17th century Englishmen?
In any case, I just thought it would be interesting to see what the Book of Mormon had to say about wealth and at one point it said we should all be equal and sharing in kind and one community of the Lord. I believe there was another name for that, minus the Lord part…
I suppose they wanted it all to sound kinda King Jamesy. Since I doubt Moroni spoke Aramaic or Hebrew or Greek or even Latin.
And who knew that them thar Mormons wuz commie pinkos? “equal and sharing in kind and one community”? Talk about subversives.
Khirad, you are amazing, pulling such on target quotes as these.
So when Romney is unconcerned about the very poor and in fact, seeks to slash the safety net protecting them from abject suffering, is he not turning his back on his alleged religious beliefs?
being that he’s such a flip flopper, maybe he would just respond by saying that he has now changed his religion to “money changer”.
And what was it Jesus did to them?
Brilliant AdLib. I’m starting to believe that a higher power like Jesus is making Romney actually speak the truth about what he believes. I mean really WTF is this guy thinking?
The irony is Gingrich or Obama are not defining Romney as Gordon Gekko but Romney himself is making him out to be a crass caricature of Wall Street greed.
The worse part is Romney said a little over two weeks ago that he was concerned about the poor and the safety net so we have a terrible gaffe (which means he spoke his mind) and another flip flop at the same time.
Then from the absurd to the sublime, Romney’s lame attempt at damage control just pissed off the GOPTEA base even more when he said he would fix entitlements because they want entitlements ended. He even reiterated his hugely unfavorable position amongst teabaggers where he wants to index the minimum wage with inflation.
Face it Obama’s biggest problem if things don’t blow up is being overconfident. Because Romney is about the worse candidate on every level for this time in our history.
KQ – Have you considered that Romney may be possessed by the ghost of a Democrat? After all, nature abhors a vacuum and there is no soul inside of that Romney husk so something else may have moved in and is pulling the levers from time to time.
Sarah Palin could hook him up with an exorcism if he asked.
I don’t see Obama as getting overconfident. Instead, I think he wants to have a Dem Congress in 2013 so he will need to hammer Romney and the GOP without letting up through election day and I think he knows that.
👿 possession is more of a possibility methinks.
Oh I’m not worried about Obama or his campaign being overconfident. I’m worried about Dem voters being overconfident and not fighting hard enough to not only reelect Obama but, keep the Senate and take the House. We’ve seen it before where the base leaves everything up to Obama and the Dems.
Good point. That is why whenever I express my confidence in Obama’s re-election, I always add that the Kochs, Rove, Wall Street and the GOP will be spending perhaps $1 billion against Obama and the Dems so we will have to fight hard even though Obama should win.
Add to that, all the voter suppression laws Repubs have passed throughout America, we will still have to work harder than ever to help what should happen become what will happen.
Exactly if Dem voters don’t factor that in then Dems will probably lose again in 2012 and I’m really talking about congress. We can’t forget that Obama’s effectiveness on domestic issues is greatly governed by the makeup of congress. In many ways Obama’s reelection is simply a backstop for gains already made because all future progress depends on the congress he has to work with like it or not.
HA! Romoney is possessed by the ghostS of Ms. Ann Richards AND Molly Inimitable Ivins!! Good one, AdLib!
I see a tv series!
Hey Jesus (that is Hay sus) are you here to tell us that you are not that big bad gun toting mercenary that the RR would have us believe? You sound more like a philosopher to me and the way you talk about mankind I cannot imagine you with a shoulder strap of bullets and that ColtAR15 Black 16″ M4 running around trying to scare people.
And just a little hint, I think that Jesus is just a front for the Mormons to hide their real intentions. If it were not so then why would Mitt Romney be crowned the White Horse by Mormon elders. You know what he is supposed to do with that right? yeah so do I.
😆 great response.
Here’s the response from Him:
Thanks Jesus. I knew you would respond. Contrary to popular belief I think you are probably a pretty laid back guy. I mean you wore sandals for all those years. A guy who wears huaraches or Tevas can’t be a bad guy. In fact I call them Birkenstock (well you fill in the name, in your case Jesus) so Birkenstock Jesus
