Huffington Post Goes NSA on Its Members

The dialogue on HP’s perfidy has highlighted one thing for me. I often thought that Sarah Palin was basically a non-event, EXCEPT that HP kept inserting articles about her. Now I see why. SP was a guaranteed click and comment magnet for folk, including me, to comment and reiterate what a numbnut she is/was. Boy, was I taken in! Nothing like that here, so far, DG. Now, being brand new to this site and format, how do I get to the current dialogues on political matters? I have no interest in puff pieces like sideboobs and the Karwhatevertheirnameis. Good, cogent, dialogue on politics, movies, real (not ‘reality’) TV, etc.

Welcome! Just watch your fan base here skyrocket as more ex-HPers find the site, and old friends.

Here’s another refugee from what used to be one super site. Such a pity to miss my friends and fans, but I’ll be damned if I revisit HP until they agree to grandfather the older users into it without facebook. I’m one who backed out of facebook years ago and have happily lived without it since. I won’t hold my breath, however. Hello to all of the New chums and other HP refugees. Lets get this party started!

Famous Movie Quotes If Republicans Had Starred in Classic Films

Hilarious!

Here’s a couple:

Mitt Romney as Dirty Harry: ‘A Man’s gotta know his limitations”

JOHN McCain as the sheriff in ‘cool hand luke” about Sarah Palin: ‘ What we got here is _ failure t” communicate’!

The GOP Problem with the Problem About the Problem with Obamacare

The main problem with the recalcitrance of the GOP/TP is the fact that, however incompetent they are, the districts have been gerrymandered to such an effect that nothing short of a nuclear reactor meltdown will shift them. So it is immaterial how badly they serve their constituents, they’ll still get voted back in.
This is such bad news for the poor and downtrodden voters in their areas, some of which are the ones which receive much Government assistance. The Dems need something positive to change the one-eyed sheep vote. Perhaps when the ACA shows success in these areas, then the change in power might conceivably happen.

Environmental bastardry from the Aussie GOP!:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-07-29/greg-hunt-hits-back-at-criticism-over-massive-coal-mine/5631210

What the minister doesn’t mention is that the coal will be loaded onto barges , then transferred to ships IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GREAT BARRIER REEF!!

Of course, just like the Keystone Pipeline and other profanities, there won’t be any damage, will there? ( FUME!)

Well, Nirek, the situation in Australia is very restrictive on gun ownership. Note I say ownership as opposed to gun control.

In Australia, only LICENCED gunowners may lawfully acquire, possess or transfer a firearm or ammunition.
Applicants for a gun owners licence are required to prove a genuine reason to possess a firearm, for example, hunting, target shooting, collection, pest control and narrow occupational uses. The biggest point of all, IMO, is that
“IN LAW, PERSONAL PROTECTION IS NOT A GENUINE REASON”!

Here is the link to this information:

Maybe something can begin from this rather commonsensical beginning.

Great selection, Kalima. I’ve heard from Irish friends that the only place you’ll find an Irish Pub is anywhere else but Ireland ( and the Temple Bar Precinct in Dublin)! Local pubs are now decorated Euro-trash style, with stainless steel, neon, earsplitting headbanging music and ‘gastro’ meals qirh slot machines. I’ll just drop down the road to Scruffy Murphy’s and have a nostalgic pint!

It’s about the allowing of pasengers to visit the cockpits of Malasia Airlines flights. It is also the very same-now missing- copilot!

Hi, Kalima, hope you had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a bright, happy and healthy 2014. I must say that I love the diversity of your blogs/articles. I’m totally tickled pink about your report of the Obama’s vacation in Hawaii. It is great to see that this great site is free of the uneducated lies, rants and raves about the costs to the US Taxpayer coming from the usual suspects! Another reason I’ve even taken PuffPost out of my favorites list, lest I be tempted!

Short Posts

Hi folks!
Long time no write, but I hope to contribute more in the future. I am checking out of SFO this evening, so can’t do Vox. Just please know I think of you constantly and treasure the friendships that have developed over the years. Please all stay safe.

Oh, BTW, President Biden has just announced on Twitter:
‘This Court has made it clear it will not protect the rights of women.

I will. That’s why today I’m signing an Executive Order to protect access to reproductive health care.”

No doubt we’ll get more details later, but, HUGE!!!!!

For those poor souls still shivering in the Northern Weather, I humbly submit my famous Beef Stew Recipe. PLEASE note that this is NOT a traditional Irish Stew (made with mutton or lamb). It is rib-stickingly yum and will last one person a week, 2 people for 4 days, unless you all grab seconds, as usually happens here! So here goes:

9Liter POT!
1.5 kilos Round or Rump Steak, cut into smallish chunks ( we take ALL fat off before cutting) Cheaper lean cuts will work, but need longer times.
6 x large peeled Potatoes, peeled and sliced a la Potatoes Anna.
2 Large Onions, middling chop[ed
4 large carrots sliced
4 x 1 foot long Celery Sticks sliced
6 x Oxo Cubes
3 x pints boiling water
Salt & Pepper

1 place cut steak in bottom of pot,
2. layer onions over to cover
3. Layer 3 sliced potatoes over
4. Add pepper(lots!) and salt
5. make up 2 x pints of Oxo stock (2 cubes/pint)
6. Pour over Meat & Veg.

Cover, ring to the boil and then turn down and gently simmer for 1 hour, stirring now and then

Now
7 Add rest of the potatoes, celery and carrots and top up with the last pint of Oxo Stock

Cover again, bring to the boil and simmer again for 2 hours, stirring gently now and then.

Serve with nice bread and butter. Even better on Day 2, 3, 4 if it lasts that long! You can keep it going adding meat & veg if you like, but I prefer to do it this way.

Red wine ( Cab Sav or Shiraz) or even a good beer to complete the feast!

Hope you enjoy

Thank you, Ad, for your comfort and support. I’m very grateful to my ‘family’ here at POV. It is great to chat with like-minded people in a nice atmosphere.

Fergie and I won’t be able to travel to Mum’s funeral, but we have friends there who will act for us.

Many thanks, Kesmarn. Yes, she had a great innings indeed. If you haven’t already seen it, I did a little dedication to Mum a couple of years ago. It is in Speaker’s Corner. ‘Father Christmas’

A sad piece of news, fellow family of Planeteers. The Last Survivor of ‘The Rare Ould Times’ , my Mother, ‘Little Eileen Marmion” the Irish child star of the 1930s died Sunday morning aged 100. She was the last of the great troupers who appeared at the famous Theatre Royal in Dublin. She Married The Great Noel Purcell and had 4 children. She is survived by her sons Glynn and Yours Truly, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

I don’t think you have to be Einstein to figure that out! Her unique talent? Ability to be beside the most hateful figure in the world and look as if you actually care, when you can get your face to work, that is.
