I have never been one to spend much time on the main, precisely because it does seem to be mostly about social networking, and not about the topic at hand. This has been going on ever since I’ve been posting there, and it doesn’t really have an effect which causes the trolls to leave the site, but simply to migrate to other threads where some of us are trying to have conversations on topics that interest us. That said, there is really only one thing which will cause Arianna to change her ways, and that is fewer clicks, which is what HuffNo Friday is about. Not that I see it as the ultimate in causing that end to occur, but it is the best we’ve got right now. I have used WordPress in the past, but in my experience, it is more difficult to customize. Typepad, on the other hand, has less to offer in the way of comment management, but it is my understanding that there is nothing you can’t do with Movable Type.
– User Profiles with comments listed so that we can refer back
– a separate section for “recent comments” so that we can see more than what can be seen now.
– A wider column for comments, smaller type, and the ability of comments to move on to succeeding pages (i am not sure if that was properly expressed), so that less scrolling is required.
– Clearer delineation of replies.
